There are several writers in WSJ - not just one.

lighter and thinner design?

It says apple has been working on a phone with a lighter and thinner design...they were working on a 3rd generation iPod Touch with a camera too, and I bet they're currently working on a television set but that doesn't mean they're going to release it now

"That's a challenge Apple will have to address Tuesday, when the company is widely expected to unveil a fifth-generation iPhone.
Apple has been working on an iPhone that is thinner and lighter with an improved eight-megapixel camera but details otherwise are unclear."

You are confusing my argument. I am not saying that they are not going to release an iPhone at the event, they obviously are. I am saying that just because they are working on one phone in the labs does not mean they are going to release it, hence the iPod w/camera example.

It doesn't matter who did or did not write about it, the point is that all the WSJ said is that they are working on a phone with a new design, which is obvious and means nothing. If they meant to say that Apple was about to release said phone, they would have said that.

ik. the quote i posted suggests that they will release the thinner and lighter one on tuesday

in my opinion, if it comes from wsj, it is almost fact

Your opinion isn't all that important though. Unless they have evidence, it not confirmation of anything. It's speculation. There's a distinction between the two, no matter how you feel about it.

WSJ is just going on tips they've gotten. So far for this rumor season they've been pretty spot-on so I would think this is good news.

Again, I am not arguing the legitimacy of the post, as I said the WSJ hold a lot of weight. I am saying that in the past they have held back on releasing things that were in development. To be honest, this article almost suggest the opposite of what you are claiming based on its title "New iPhone Risks Same Old Same Old"

And also this quote later on from the article: "Even though many consumers expect Apple to keep coming up with new designs, "there has to be a point where the expectations outrun the abilities,"

I want a redesign just as much as everyone else, but I wont be surprised if we just see the 4S with few design changes
