Another possible fix...

Settings > General > Cellular > Turn Cellular Data Off

Connect to Wireless network

Do something that accesses the internet, to verify WiFi is working.

Go back and turn Cellular Data On

This finally worked for me after an hour of trying.

If you have wpa2 and an old router try taking it down to wpa

This crap always happens with older routers

This fixed the problem for me

Simply turn on Airplane mode in settings. Then turn on Wifi while Airplane mode is on. Than turn Airplane mode off.

I did had the same issue that you all having after i complete updated.
What I did close all background application. Then shutdown iphone or iPad
then for a minute turn it on. Soon I'm updating my iPad 2 hope it won't give me same wifi issue with my iPhone 4. Strange....

Had iOS 6 for a few months... now can't connect to Wifi, only 3G. THIS IS ONLY A THEORY: perhaps all of the UDID numbers that were used with iOS 6 during the dev period have to sign in to the dev accounts once to allow wifi, leaving the people who got the leaked iOS helpless

Never had dev 6 but my uidid was set up to allow non App Store apps and it happened to me

Everyone, stop posting "solutions." It is fixed for everyone now. It got fixed for many people without doing any of that crap. It scares me to say, it seems like the iPhone talks to apple.com servers every time you try to hop on a wifi network... Creepy.

Fixed

Just updated and had this problem, however simply syncing with itunes solved the problem , worth a shot for you all

dito here. thought that me deleting the two remaining apps that were updating (well paused since i left the wifi network at work and got home), however my iPad i didn't delete anything and it just start working without me changing anything... odd.

I fixed it by turning cellular off, allowing it to connect to wifi, then turning cellular back on.

Settings - General - Cellular.

Switch to OFF

Let it connect to wifi, then switch back on.

Seems to be working now.

Thank you! That was annoying for a minute..

I agree. this is creepy that it talks to apple just to get on WIFI.

The reason why it happened is simple. On every versions of ios and on every piece of hardware when you connect to Wifi the os checks an apple page to see if the Wifi that is connected is actually connected to the Internet. It does so that of the Wifi you connected to needs to log in (like a hotel or starbucks) then the os will send you to that Page.

Most likely the page that everyone hits on apples servers were down. Therefore the os thought the Wifi needed a login which it didn't which stopped your Wifi from connecting.

It started working for everyone because apple fixed the test Page.

WiFi on iOS 6

Wifi on IOS6 is working now..Go to Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync and click on icon Syne Now. Once its synced, go back to Wi-Fi and select your Network. Hope it helps.

The fix

this is the fix without resetting everything...

SETTINGS - WIFI - (URNETWORK) BLUE ARROW TO RIGHT - THEN AT BOTTOM, HTTP PROXY TO AUTO:) :)

iOS 6 update problems

just had the same problem. try hard start and then turn airplane mode off (wait a few sec) and on. phone is now working fine

I had this problem too. However rebooting handset sorted it. Did this problem only affect people with BT home hub 3 routers only? As that's what I have.

When you connect to wifi a ping is sent to an apple server to see if the connection works or if safari is needed for a guest login. That server was down but now it's fixed.

If this happens in the future goto settings > wifi > blue dot by your network > then scroll to the bottom and click auto by proxy
