zombies could be fun.

or reversed zombies: the villagers are the zombies, the wolves are the living holdouts, pretending to be dead and trying to exterminate them. they have a 'cure serum' to infect one zombie and bring him/her back to the living

I think that works either way. The wolves could be humans hiding their zombie bites before they turn.

agreed. That would be the most logical one. i just wanted to suggest a twist where the wolves are the good guys for a change :)

I don't know whether any of you have ever read the "Bartimaeus" series by Jonathan Stroud. It is extraordinarily good, but one of the main 'plot' twists is that the demons/djinnis are actually the 'good' guys, kept under a form of control - more or compelled to obey and imprisoned on Earth by a caste of magicians who rule by enforced use of their power. It is a nice conceit, and the original trilogy was excellent.

Personally, I rather like the range of powers as described by the Mistborn universe, which we have used for the last two games; more to the point, I also like very much the fact that with the powers more spread out, with varying strengths, and varying time constraints, everyone has more of a vested interest in playing a bit more proactively.

Perhaps the wolves had a few breaks (but they played them very well, and played superbly as a team), and may have been slightly over-powered; still, excellent - if belated - team-work on the part of the Heroes finally did for Abie.

For my part, I'd like to see a sort of NW included - it is nice to have two villagers who are able to communicate in private (although, as I have learnt to my cost, when murdered, twice, at the hands of jav) this is not without its risks, too.

Since it's the centeniary this year I always thought about a [WW]I, but that's a rather grim one.
If you're not interested I thought about asking ss for doing the narration while I would try my luck as a gg. But not sure if that's a good idea. ;) but that'dto be much later this year then (only if she's interested of course).

Star Wars was in the mix as well ;)

If other universes are to be considered, at the very least, I would like for us to continue with some version of a far wider range of powers, as that makes for a much more interesting, and unpredictable, game. Much better fun for the participants, too.

Re WW1, I, personally, am insanely busy, and will be thus engaged until the autumn, at the very least.

However, re possible narratives, I would think that something along the lines either of Jonathan Stroud's world of Bartimaeus, or that of Garth Nix (his superb Abhorsen trilogy), which both featured a sort of England set in a sort of WW1 world (and worked exceptionally well), might be the way to go. Let us return to this, at a somewhat later stage, when I am less likely to be snowed under.

for setting, some sort of Steampunk could be also fun.
as far as format, i think we should stay the course and just play a couple more games with just very minor variations of the rules/powers, so to tease out the kinks.

i could run another game, but as i said earlier, it takes me too much time to work on the narrations, so that is the limiting factor for me.

Do what I do! Start out ambitious and slowly compromise over the course of the game :(

LvG master brain! Poor Chile, I reckon they'll face a beating against angry Spaniards.

By score yes, but nothing beats Senegal's 1:0 against defending champ France in 2002 imo. It was Senegal's very first match at a WC ever.

that's a good point.
after all the dutch were the runner up last time so it's not that their win should be considered a major shocker, but the extent of it,.

senegal shocked france, but holland humiliated spain.

I am pleased as holland are indeed my darkhorse favorites, along with italy, whereas my rational pick is an unoriginal brazil. spain have won enough for a while :) (besides, i think they will still go through, only they will likely play brazil in the first round)

My dark horse favorite is Italy as well.

I abhor RVP, so I was rooting against the Dutch, but man, they absolutely embarrassed the champs.

Brazil? Not sure about that one DP. They're rather mediocre compared to other top contenders imo. But they play at home and refs do love them so nothing is impossible.

Dark horse for me would be Belgium. Hope those youngsters can get into the groove, the amount of top talent across the team is sheer unbelievable. Wouldn't mind Germany doing well though...but doubtful. Too many injuries/out of form players and a bad coach.

I always root for Italy but doubt they'll come far. Sure hope so though!

it is not the best brazilian side by a far shot, but home advantage is huge, especially outside of europe.

i think there are a lot of similarly talented teams which can beat brazil: argentina above all, but also germany, uruguay, spain (notwithstanding today's defeat, we'll have to see if there is a psychological impact), portugal and holland.
i think italy is not as good this year, but i always root for them so it is what it is.
belgium is a very good pick, but i like them more in 4 years, with a bit more experience.

i would love to see the US going on to the second round, but i seriously doubt it. very underwhelming team this time around and the group is prohibitive for them. i can't believe Klinsmann is getting flak for saying it is not realistic for the US to win. i mean, come on. he would have just looked delusional if he said they could. it's like if Great Britain's basketball coach had entered the last summer olympics claiming they could win the gold medal

This is the official [WC] thread, right?

Agreed on all points. Where does all this love for Italy come from though? I had some Italian girlfriends so that's my 'excuse'. And because of Pirlo and Ballotelli.

Hate how I booted Sanchez out of my Fantasy team last second!

I abhor RVP.

You're a gunner?! :D
