Apple announced the dates for WWDC 2005 (Worldwide Developer's Conference) today.

At the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2005, June 6-10 in San Francisco, you'll get the in-depth knowledge, hands-on instruction and one-on-one support you need to deliver products and solutions that transform the way your users work, play, search, and share on a Mac.

While WWDC is traditionally not a consumer oriented conference, Apple has made a few notable releases during the past two WWDC conferences (Monitors, and PowerMacs).

Is Apples's WWDC normally this early? I thought they had it late June?

Gawd now all the G5 PowerBook hopefuls will start dreaming again :(

At least now we have a date for Tiger release I guess.

WWDC: tiger, 3GHz G5, 2.5GHz xserve

mac world paris: powerbook G5 1.8-2.2GHz and emac G5 +imac G5 update to 2GHz/2.2GHz ibook speedbump to 1.5GHz/1.7GHz

seeing that im not in the market for a g5 tower until summer 06, i guess ill just look forward to an apple branded phone at wwdc. i really dont want to wait till june for tiger, either. damn nation.

BLAH, that means Tiger (10.4) will be out only for a short while. Thus, no demo of the next Mac OS X revision at this year's WWDC.

Earlier than it has been the last two years. I wonder if this signifies something or nothing at all?
Most likely for Tiger, it has to make it in the 1st half remember.

It is earlier than the last couple years, but that may just be a convention center scheduling thing. My guess is that attendees will be given Tiger GM, with a date of 2 weeks later for public availability.

I'd like to think there would be a PM update, but I'm not convinced it would be much more than a 20% speed bump. I think the dual core 970 (or whatever moniker you want to apply) is still a ways off.

One things for sure, Steve is going to demo Tiger AGAIN for the next 30 minutes. Argh!! Anyway, here's to hoping for PowerMac Quad 3.0Ghz G5s with CELL and 16GB RAM upgradability.

MR members and my predictions that Tiger will go GM in later March-April seems to hold true. The month before release is for packaging and distribution, since its expected to be a big hit, plus pre loaded Tiger on new Mac's. :) :D

Plus rumors of the PBG5 in Q2 2005, all the signs are true, yeah. :D

Thats what I was about to type, before I saw the post above mine quoted this.

But, wouldn't they release Tiger the day of/AFTER the WWDC?

They wouldn't release a new product and THEN talk about it a month later. Nope, thats bad marketing.

Unless they want to fully explore Tiger and talk about next versions? Or add-ons? Or functionality?

Either way, WWDC is before I graduate from Jr. High School... so if Tiger is released then, I get a Mac mini as a Graduation present!!!

Apple hasn't exactly been shy about announcing things that are a ways off.

Maybe I'm just bitter about receiving my Dual 2.5 G5 four months after I ordered it...

Hello? When is the next Powermac G5?

Give up on the Powerbook G5 already, it has been more than 7 months for a Powermac refresh. Do you think they want to release that with Tiger? Or are they waiting for the Cell stuff?

Agreed. My thoughts exactly. Except possibly 2.7 GHz XServes.

Given that the Conference's primary audience is developers, I'd say probably not. Tiger seems a foregone conclusion though, and I wouldn't be surprised by a speed bump to the PowerMacs – maybe we'll finally reach the mythical 3Ghz...

And a whole three minutes before G5 PowerBooks were mentioned? Standards are slipping around here! :D ;)

Finally I dont have to pollute other threads with my incessant "when is WWDC?" posts. I'm not as optimistic on Tiger as Maya is and I think it wont be released until WWDC-- this rumor about slow spotlight makes me think they'll wait to get it right. With repect to the PB g5 I dont think it will be ready for Macworld Paris either--last year that was on August 31. I think it will be here in time for Christmas, no smaller than 15"-- late fall.

Heheh, well I hope that whatever they reveal is something new and something I want. I'm getting tired of waiting for the almost 'mythical' things that seem to take forever to arrive...

I'd like to buy an Apple but I'm scared of buying something obsolete.

My baseless speculation:

I think that something big is going to happen. It must be earlier for a reason.

I think it's going to be a G5 Powerbook and a G5 Powermac update and the new XServe.

Tiger looks like it will be out by April.
