Motion 2.0 will probably happen at a trade show related to the movie/video industry.

Shown at WWDC:

Final Cut Pro 5
Motion 1.5 (not worth a 2 yet)
DVD studio 3.5 (not worth a 4 yet)

All previewed at NAB in Vegas in April, released post-Tiger as they have all been re-coded to take advantage of Quicktime 7's complete overhaul. They will also leverage additional power from the 64-bit extended libraries of Tiger and will utilise Core Image/Video and spotlight's meta data media manager capabilities.

All running on the new G5. Same enclosure, more RAM as standard, proc bumps and PCI-X support. Also, improved hardware support for 5.1 audio now that QT7 supports more than 2 channel audio capture.

At first I thought Tiger may be coming out in March or April, but with all the bugs and issues still in the latest developer release, I guess WWDC is looking like the best guess. I guess if gives me more time to save up for a better new Mac since I'm not getting one until Tiger comes out. My old G3 iMac should hold up for an extra couple of months.

I Think you might be right there, NAB is coming and Final Cut Pro HD 2 with HDV Support, IMX sony support and Core Image engine just like Motion. Motion 2 might make it, because Apple needs to make big improvements to Motion. I can see better plug in support, better color correct and improved primatte RT, bug fixes and overhual for Tiger, when it comes out late august or early sept. New Power Mac G5's maybe with Power 5 Core and Speed Bump iMac G5 Later at WWDC in June.

Based on the rumors

http://www.apple.com/ca/fr/displays/asd17/ (in French)

and the other one (I can't remember, but it's about the G5 PBs coming out in the 2nd Q), the G5 PB might be introduced at WWDC 2005. I was initially skeptical, but this might happen. Of course, once you ordered one, it won't come till months later (remember the 2.5 GHz G5 PM).

Nice to have, but remember all the problems the first G4 PBs had (white specs on screens, noisy fan, etc.) So, it's not a bad idea to wait for the Rev B or later models. And for those who just bought a G4 PB, don't get upset. Your Rev D is the BEST G4 PB ever.

OS 10.4 (Tiger) will be the main attraction.
G5 PB 3 GHz will be out! But one will have to wait 6-8 weeks!
G5 Mini? Isn't it already out (iMac G5)

Brandon , you are still using a G3 machine? I was going to use my G3 PB till the G5 PB came out. However, it was just too...slow. That was two years ago.

No.

You've had your update. It's time Steve honored his 3GHz promise that's now 2-ish years old.

I don't think apple with release the Power Book G5 not just yet even if they have one done right now, remember the Xserve G5 2.3 GHZ has done, but apple didn't release it until 4 months later. Remember the College had the 2.3 Xserve first before the public. We will see power book G5's at Paris Expo.

Steve will demo Tiger, and will focus on some element that hasen't received huge attention yet - like enhanced 64 bit structure or something. He'll announce that Tiger is behind schedule and is targeting a late August introduction ("we want to get it right.") There will be a big count-down clock on the Apple home page that will read "Whenever".
Steve will ask everyone to reach under their seat where they will find an Apple 3-button mouse that's also an iPod.
He will then will demo a black turtle-neck sweater with built-in iPod controls. Everyone will be shocked that he will have been wearing one of these at the past three keynotes and now Apple is offering them to the public at only $499 available next month only from the Apple Store.
Then Michael Dell will join STeve on stage and they will announce that Dell is licensing OS X for Dell hand-helds and will be rolling out the new products for Christmas 2006. Steve Balmer will then join them and tell everybody how much he loves OS X.
Finally, Steve will announce an iPod version of GarageBand where that little triangle stays red all the time, even when it's just the grand piano running.

Oh and one more thing- the eMac will get speed-bumped and a new color- "yellow snow".

No. I think you're wrong. I don't see any of that happening.

Steve will demo Tiger, and say it'll be ready before Longhorn gets out of beta. And one more thing, it won't be "yellow snow", but "brown crud".

Then he'll walk off stage.

:D

iTunes 5.0 may just be a random announcement (with press show possibly)or it will happen at a consumer show.

And as for ProBand, I think that is called Logic Pro and Logic Express. Or have you not noticed that things can be moved between GarageBand and Logic?
1.
I would expect upgrades to- FCP, Motion , Shake and DVD Studio Pro are usually announced at NAB ( most times, it is held in April) .

Also a xServe G5 upgrade at WWDC is very unlikely- remenber, xServe was revised recently-last month.

PowerMacs- Single 2.0ghz, dual 2.3GHz/2.5ghz/2.8GHz perhaps (IBM may still not be able to produce a 3GHz G5, Bluetooth EDR (BT2.0 basically) .

eMacs-obvioudly in dire need of a upgrade-either a faster G4 (or hopefully a G5 with say, 533 MHz FSB)) that would not cannbilize sales of the Mac mini and the iMac-new rev. before WWDC (nearly a year since last update) or discontinued (in favor of the Mac mini or edu. iMac config).

I have two guesses for WWDC. The first is Updated PowerMacs topping out at 2.8 to 3 GHz. Also Tiger GM with everyone in attendance picking up a box on the way out.

The other guess is a lot like what is above. Focus on year of HD stuff which will greatly be effected by what happens at NAB. Final Cut Pro needs HDV support and we need to see some sort of blue laser burner before the end of 2005.

I guess that PowerBook G5s are announced at Paris or maybe even as late as MWSF in Jan '06. I do see Apple announcing some other device like Asteroid, or a new iPod, or something completely new.

What I would like to see this year that hasn't really been mentioned is a Display price drop and a keyboard and multibutton mouse that match the aluminum pro line.

Your right on the MONEY , I Think Power 5 Core starting @ 3 GHZ, lets Hope, for WWDC. Power 4 Core just about tapped out. I can see IBM Doing the new chip. And Maybe it will be just a speed bump from 2.5 to 2.8 but I Hope Not. This will not be good for Apple.

If they top out at 2.8, a lot of people are still going to be ticked off at Steve. Instead of pbG5 threads all over the place, you'll see 3GHz threads all over the place. At least Steve never promised a pbG5.

Heheh, well I hope that whatever they reveal is something new and something I want. I'm getting tired of waiting for the almost 'mythical' things that seem to take forever to arrive...

I'd like to buy an Apple but I'm scared of buying something obsolete.

Couldn't have said it better...

I can't believe I'm saying this, but ENOUGH iPOD! Too much pod and not enough mac make a bad Apple. Not to mention there's no place for it at WWDC.

If Steve wasn't lying about the "Year of HD", I think we'll see this (I clearly have some bias here):

- Tiger in April '05
- Powerbook HD announced (new chip, but which?), PCI Express chipset?
- PowerMac G5 update, switch to PCI Express?
- Asteroid/new HD device
- Huge emphasis on new codec/video

... and the end of the eMac (pleeaasseee). :D

Hope springs eternal as does the G4's life cycle apparently.

That was the funniest thing I've heard all day. :)

Right On!!! Power Mac G5 3GHZ is a MUST !!! Or People will not like it. I wonder How Steve Jobs is going to get out of this one. Lets see. . .

I can see the Asteroid/ HD device Happening at NAB in Apirl. Cool. . . Something New for a change. . . But not Tiger maybe Tiger at WWDC in June. . . NO Power Books to Soon for That. . .

Tiger will be released at the show, as will the 3.0GHz PowerMac. Steve will also unveil the new Pro keyboard and Pro mouse (one button - still Apple, after all) in wired and re-chargeable BT formats, with optional backlit keys.

PowerBook G5 is gonna wait until MWSF 2006 for an announcement, shipping in March (really shipping in April/May). Only the 15 and 17 will be ready to go. They still have more work to do to get that sucker into the 12, which shows up a few months later.

BLAH, that means Tiger (10.4) will be out only for a short while. Thus, no demo of the next Mac OS X revision at this year's WWDC.

Maybe not at next years either. Apple has already said that they wouldn't be able to sustain this rate of OS development after Tiger.

If they made a Pro mouse with one-button, not only would I laugh at Apple until 2006, I would eat a sock.

That's right, PBG5 fans -- let the sock eating begin.

I tell you one thing, If they announce a G5 PowerBook (haha as if that's likely) I certainly wouldn't buy it.

Whenever this mythical G5 is released I will wait for Rev B or even Rev C because I'm tired of paying money to be a guinea pig for Apple.

Good point about the Xserve G5 2.3 GHz. However, I still believe it will be announced, but not be ready till months...later.

But maybe I'm wrong and you're right.. :p

NO POWERBOOK G5s EVER!!!!

They will never build a powerbook G5. Who would want to put a flaming hot skillet in their lap that spills more juice than a drunk flight-attendant?

The new G4 chips will be installed at the end of this year, and will be in hotter demand than any G5 ever would.

I'd love a 6400x4000 pixel 14" laptop !!

Screen resolutions should also be a bit higher (but not too high - we don't want to follow Dell's "let's make the pixels so tiny that 12 point text looks like a gnat" strategy)

Font size is not an issue - on the high resolution displays you just need to scale the fonts (which Dell does in the default setups on the high resolution displays). Then you get beautiful, crisp smoothed fonts. Anyone who's looking at "microscopic" fonts on a high resolution display has screwed up the font sizes.

Where the high resolution displays really shine is with digital photography - would you rather run photoshop on a 600K pixel scaled version of your 6 MPixel photo - or on a 2 MPixel version?

Once you've worked with digital photographs on a high resolution display you'll never want to go back to Apple's giant pixels....

You know, just because something new is released doesn't make your current computer "obsolete." There's always something new coming out "soon." And the great thing about Apple is that they last a lot longer than the average PC before truly becoming obsolete.

Hmm, a non-G5 pb rumor?

However, a HD version would actually be something new and interesting.

ohhh no here we go again

..mabye it will be a dual core g4 not a g5... someone was going to say that eventually so im just gettting it out of the way

alright, i'm not speculating that there will be G5 PB's at WWDC or MWP, but lets just say there is.

Question:
what do you guys reckon a stock G4 12" 1.5ghz combo drive Powerbook would fetch second hand by then?

I'm buying one later this week and if the resell is good on it once the G5's land, i may trade up. I'm sure there will be a RevA hater out there. But typically, how is resell value on the last revisions after the next generation RevA's start shipping?

thanks.
