"iPhone OS 3.0. Will be available to all customers next Tuesday the 16th."

I don't think we will GET anything today. Just announcements. What was the last thing Apple announced at a keynote and actually had it available that day?

Beta stuff usually gets released the same day. Like the Free SDK and 3.0 for devs....

Its gonna be a long day at work today!

Having said that, Ive learnt to contain my excitement and expectations at Apple events these last few years. Ill be happy with new iPhones and a release date for Snow Leopard.

Anything more is just a cherry on the cake.

Then why did they release iTunes and Quicktime updates with iPhone 3.0 compatibility already. Usually these kinds of updates comes together with the main update. Apple has never done that before.

I think I just turned into a full fledged geek. It's kind of a bummer that I'll be at work most of the day and won't be able to check out the "News" until I get home. Maybe I'll be able to sneak in some internet time at work when nobody is looking!

Ha I was wondering when you would get on here.
Anyway it's live enough for me.

I think if they could make a cheap (2-300 AUD) pre-paid iPhone, they would go wild here in Australia (not sure what the rest of the world is like).

Or they could force those stupid optus people to make a reasonably priced plan. I think optus should make some prepaid recharges for smartphones. Like they could have more data included.

And if it was 2-300 AUD prepaid i think they would take up most of the market share for smartphones in Australia.

I also noticed then they are advertising a "special" plan on the optus site. Maybe getting more people to buy expensive plans before cheaper ones??

Umm... like, every time? Steve always addresses availability, and his standard line is "and it's available... today". This is usually true for 7-8 out of 10 things they show off at a keynote, but occasionally it's "and it's available... MMDD", where MMDD is a date 2-4 weeks ahead.

The exception would be when he gives sneak previews of future OS X updates and such, but in the case of updates to downloadable software it's typically made available within hours of the announcement.

summer time makes my head hurt

so according to wikipedia, pacific time is UTC-8
and eastern time is UTC-5

but you guys on that side of the pond are on daylight savings, yes?
so that is UTC-7/UTC-4 respectively
so 10am pacific is going to be 17:00 uk time - except, we're on daylight savings also, so it's actually 18:00, yes?
like it is every time there's a keynote event?
and yet still, it takes me forever to work it out <sigh>

damn - i've got a 5pm to 6pm meeting at work :(

Yep, I normally catch it after I get back from work.... if you catch it on MacRumorsLive at around 6pm onwards...you normally catch it.... :)

Back Cover

Something I noticed about the possible matte back cover:
Here is a review from the iphone 3g under the light used to film it..the back looks matte! Maybe the pictures showing the 2009 iPhone did the same..

Watch at 32 seconds!

I didn't notice if anyone has said or predicted this before, but my surprise prediction is that Steve Jobs will make a surprise appearance during Phil's keynote, either via video teleconferencing (via the new iPhone possibly?) or live in person.

Maybe even an "Oh, and there's just one more thing... Steve Jobs."

I know they specifically said end of June, but just a Jobs public appearance without him even saying much would probably help the stock price even if he's not back to work yet and god knows he likes to surprise people.

It would also substantially increase the mainstream media press coverage of the event and be an incredible publicity stunt that would make the Palm Pre, to quote an old song, "Dust in the Wind."

Ahhhh video conferencing with the new iPhone would be an awesome idea!

At the release of the first iPhone they chatted across the room didn't they?

Snow leopards most secretest feature. touch screen compatibility! apple cant afford to let windows 7 dominate the tablet market. touch screens and gestures are obviously the next big thing since sliced bread. one more thing, does anyone else think it's strange that time machine is turned on by a slider like the iPhone? food for thought.

This new banner at WWDC09 might be evidence that Steve Jobs will be seen on the new iPhone.

Does anyone know of any Final Cut Studio updates that might be due at WWDC? Its seems like i haven't heard of any being updated for the Video Pro Apps in a while. I just thought that Apple usually puts out their versions of Final Cut at the WWDC events.

Maybe it's released for people like Walt or Dave so they can test it on their un-released iPhone?

I think we won't see FC 3 until Snow Leopard ships.

Something apple should do is buy TransGaming Technologies and CodeWeavers (the guys who make cider and crossover, respectively) imagine what the built in apps could do for 10.7 Run windows code natively on your mac? it would effectively end any reason (price premium aside) for not getting a mac.
