Your probably right. For some reason I'm rooting for Sweden in this one, but I can't work out why? I can only dream of Wales getting into major tournament! Ha

Edit: wrong quote

FFFFFFFFFFffffffffffffffff

I ruined at least part of it for myself. My 'top-sites' view in Safari has a bunch of tech sites... Didn't realize the thumbnails were constantly updated.

Yeah I came close to that too, had to close it very quickly, then my twitter client popped up with "155 new tweets" ARGGHH quit it! Then facebook notifier and my rss reader, phew made it to this page spoiler-free, hurry up Apple :)

Do you even understand what a "spoiler" means? Senseless speculation has nothing to do with it, and this is why the mod reinstated it. If you are in doubt, go check a dictionary.

But of course, if by "spoiler-free" you mean "anything-related-to-Apple-including-stupid-rumors-free", feel free to take that up with the admins and propose a clear rule about it...because what I think is gonna happen has nothing to do with prior knowledge or actual outcome of the keynote.

Why is it so important for you to be right about this? Your reinstated post has been down voted a number of times. Not one other person here shares your particular interpretation of 'spoiler free'. Many have called for the re-deletion of your post.

As many have said, there are plenty of other places to talk about apple online. Why post something that may spoil the experience for others, then argue about your right to do so? Regardless of whether we disagree the majority of people in the forum have asked you not to speculate.

My fifth year of spoiler free keynote-that-I'm-looking-forward-to. I'm giddy with excitement. Could this be there year I'm tempted away from the desktop? Thank MR for once again having a safe haven before a video link it established. Besides, I should be able to do without 4chan, Reddit and youtube for a little while.

CBLakeston is right, it happens every year. Some people can't understand why speculation (ignorant or otherwise) might be unwelcome on a thread such as this. I have no idea why the mods are approving it; to my recollection it has never been allowed, and has always been clearly against the rules. Here's why:

Never mind that people don't want anyone who's been reading MacRumors to come along and "speculate" about things that have a fair chance of being announced. Even if a man who had been stranded on a desert island for the past decade was found today and said "Apple will announce spaceships!" People on this thread wouldn't appreciate it. Because if, on the off chance, Apple did announce spaceships, it would feel less thrilling, somehow, to have already had that idea planted in our heads.

It's like if you were watching the Sixth Sense, to take an example from this thread, and someone you were watching with said, "I wonder if he's dead, too?" Yes, it's just ignorant speculation, but when it turns out to be true, the shock is gone, and part of you watched the rest of the movie with that possibility in mind.

We're here because we want to be shocked, thrilled, amazed, surprised. If any wild speculative guess happens to be right, that announcement loses some of its power for us. The people on this thread really do want to live in a sensory deprivation chamber until the keynote.

Look, I'm not saying it's right, or rational, but at least respect that people like us exist. The rules are clear enough, but maybe you're right, they should be clearer – whatever we need to do to make it so your speculation gets deleted, and your behaviour isn't repeated.

Cyberfray, the rules do NOT forbid what I did, and this is why the admin reposted my senseless speculation. CBlakeston's not an admin and does NOT set the rules for any thread.

Having said that, I understand what you say and am more than happy to follow whatever instructions given for future spoiler-free threads by admins, including no speculation AT ALL about Apple announcements (senseless or otherwise). Just make them clear enough so that we don't need to have this stupid discussion again.

Cheers and let's hope for a Swedish victory over Ukraine!

I had to actually quit trillian on my PC because it has a "growl" kind of function which shows the newest tweets. BAAAAD Idea....

This. You may think its a crazy ridiculous corner of the internet but its OUR CORNER of the Internet. Please let us have our fun!

If I were to follow the "majority" I would be working in a dumpster now - let's just make the rules clear enough so that oldcomers and newcomers alike don't need to argue again.

Enough with this, please.

You're that kid in high school who held a place in line and then tried to sell the spot in front of you, arguing that the rules said "no cutting in line" but it isn't cutting if you let someone get in front.

The rule is - No posting speculation about what Apple is announcing.

I don't see how that could be any clearer. To help, ARTOFWAR then offered an explanation as to why speculation might not be welcome, in his example someone might post actual knowledge of events as speculation.

Do we really have to clarify simple rules? So if ARTOFWAR had posted

- No posting speculation about what Apple is announcing.
(in the event of actual knowledge being passed of as speculation)
(in the event of personal speculation or wish lists being correct)
(no animated gifs with possible spoilers in them)

Would that make things clearer? By your interpretation of the rules you would post a JPEG because only gifs were specified as not allowed in my example.

It's really not hard. Can't we all get along?
