"The video stream requires Safari 4 or later on a minimum of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, or iOS 4.2 or later for those accessing the stream from a mobile device."

Are they joking!? Why such specific requirements to play a video? This is even worse than Netflix requiring Microsoft Silverlight to watch H.264 movies.

is to weed out all windows users, and non ios users.

why do you think we paid so much for our macs and iDevices?

nah just kidding :p

Apple Store is down for Maintenance...

Only hours away now :)

I'm seeing on twitter pictures of a banner covered up. Wonder if that's a banner for this rumored radio service?

Will MR still feed updates through it's Twitter account for those of us that want to know, but not interested in wasting productive hours?

At least that was the reason they gave a few years ago

With all the things today: WWDC, E3 conferences, and seeing a whole bunch of standard boring CEO types; I will say this makes me miss Steve Jobs speaking. Guy was a lot more genuine and less BS than any of the others. Seemed less scripted as well.

Miss ya Stevie.

I want to watch keynotes streams in 3D!

i Want them to announce the iMac screens will be 3D, as will all the screens on apple devices going forward, only like the Nintendo 3Ds they will all be glasses free 3D. :D

if not, then im not happy with anything apple announce and i shall go sulk and eat ice cream !

It's BS. All they had to do was put a regular Quicktime stream in there so everyone could watch it. Of course, if you're not running Snow Leopard or later, you're probably not a developer, but they might be away from their Macs.

"The HTTP Live stream protocol is based on very standard technologies, provided within an MPEG2 playlist (m3u file) that is added to as the stream plays. These standard playlists will load in VLC for both Macintosh and Windows."

Well that's good news for some people.

Bandwidth is finite, so I ask you who should have access to the live stream?

People that have one of the millions of compatable "i" devices, or people that just want to tune in to troll in real time? :)

Take care of your base, and let the rest get their info from their favorite blog. Sounds fair to me.

The reason is probably because this is a Developers Conference. The conference itself is only open to registered developers, and this conference sold out in a few minutes therefore they put up a live stream for the other developers. Since the SDK's are only available on Macs that's a really natural decision to make this stream Apple only. It's just a bonus that all of us who ain't registered developers also get to take a look at this stream.

So? Google I/O was just a couple of weeks ago, which is also a developers conference, and they streamed every presentation, from keynote to developers workshops, to everybody who wanted to see.

I'm getting bored of waiting, someone invent a time machine quick so I don't have to endure these two more hours of suspense

I didn't invent a time machine per se but I did invent a technique to make time pass by without noticing it, it's called taking a nap. :p

I don't think it has anything to do with that. I think Apple's servers would be crushed under the load, so it is an artificial way to limit how many people watch it live.

If a tech company like Apple with 137 billion in cash reserves can't handle the load, who can?
