Did people sleep through the bit about Universal Control?

There is simply no way to do this on Windows, for example, without a KVM switcher box. There is no software that lets you move your mouse over to another computer by simply moving the cursor to the edge of the screen and it just pops over like it. Same for the keyboard. Devs have tried and it doesn't work. There are apps that have tried and it never works right, drivers are a mess, and it never works, let alone consistently. You'd have to get a KVM box and hit a switch that moves the keyboard and mouse's cords in a switcher like fashion over to the other machine. Let alone a tablet.

It is certainly a very cool feature. I'm just struggling to figure out how often I need it. I don't regularly work with multiple machines like that. But I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that do.

Apple knows that so many non-devs watch this for a peek at the new OS, so it's skewed to that audience, leaving Devs to attend the sessions for more nitty gritty. Been going more and more that way for years now.
I think you should stay tuned for the State of the Union keynote at 2pm Pacific....that keynote is tailored for devs...

That's fair. I just wanted people to know there was more to Monterey than a Safari redesign. :)

Synergy is one of the failed apps I was referencing lol. It's glitchy as hell. No experience with Linux but on Windows it's tragic. It works maybe once you first set it up, and then it just is all downhill from there. It's not at all as fluid as UC. Maybe they've improved Synergy since I used it last, but it was a dog and nowhere near the level of stability you want.

Fair enough... each user experience is unique and if yours was negative then your concern is fully understood. I've had great success with it, that said, I'm not turning Universal Control down, it's a very exciting new feature for sure.

Yes, lots.

Ok. They even announced a few Iphones at the event. I guess I get confused because now Apple has like 4 or 5 different events each year. They have something for the Macs, for Iphone, last year they had one for TVOS, and I know they don't want to make the Keynotes like 3 hours. Still, this keynote has been one of the more lower key keynotes I can remember.

To be fair, Logitech software allows you to do this with their mice and keyboards.

Yup. I miss the pre-iPhone days. WWDC 2006 (which I attended in person) was the last one for developers. It's been downhill since then.

There's no reason why Apple has to do the consumer-oriented stuff at WWDC other than WWDC historically has a keynote. They could easily do the consumer-oriented features (facetime and iMessage improvements etc) as a separate event, especially now that they have done several of these remote/online-only conferences.
