"Vehicles will start to be announced late next year." Caught the tail end of that, but was that Apple saying when the first Apple Car will come out, or did I mishear? I did like the dashboard-wide display in that mockup.

I’m assuming all these CarPlay changes still require an iPhone so what do you see on the screen/HUD when an iPhone isn’t in the car?
with each car purchase, you will probably have to sign something that says. *iPhone required to utilize vehicle

Likely cars with updated screens as to take advantage of the new features, cars need more screen real estate or even new guts to power it.

Banner notifications on Apple Watch is really welcome. I hate when I'm trying to do something on my watch and a flurry of notifications come in and I end up tapping into something I don't want to. Often happens with Slack during the workday.

No, they're referring to vehicles from the listed carmakers that are compatible with the full dashboard UI.

meh was hoping a lot more for iOS 16, like AirTag sharing, grouping safari in private mode, number row for keyboard, custom Apple Watch faces, AOD for all iPhones that have oled, geo fencing custom app cards. Would be nice to have custom cards pop up when you are near your home or business. sometimes when I work its at multiple apartments where I forget gate codes would be nice to add addresses to a card and have it pop up when im near the apartment with the code on it. sigh apple

WWDC: New version of CarPlay will include support for controlling all vehicle systems, plus dash clusters and more.

Dave: "Siri, let me start up my car."

Siri: "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid your 'Social Credit Score' means I can't do that."

Enough creepiness. How can I opt out of this, but still just play my music and use the phone hands-free?
(Yeah, boring Bluetooth, I get it.)

An AppleCar runs contrary to what Apple's MO is with hardware. They pretty universally avoid developing hardware operating in strict regulatory environments. That's why there are no Apple medical devices (no, the AppleWatch doesn't count; it's not sold to replace hospital/clinic equipment).

No cars, helicopters, elevators, pacemakers, insulin pumps, etc.
That's disappointing. I was really excited for the Apple helicopter.

Tuned in for 2 minutes and then gave up. The talking is too sing-song, too forced, and often too fast. Their breathing and intonations sound artificial.

It's as if they all took a mini-course in radio announcing or video presenting and failed it! 😎

Worse, there's often some irritating New Age background Muzak going on, competing with the speakers.

Years ago, I would watch these keynotes religiously; there was good delivery for the most part, some excitement, some drama, and a feeling of participation.

Then, I realized I was wasting hours on it and got just as much or more out of MacSurfer's highlights and, later, MacRumors. You can quickly separate the wheat from the chaff.

I still tried it from time to time to see if the magic had returned, but was usually quite disappointed.

Thought I’d try it again today, but… the thrill is gone! I think this one is even worse than the other pandemic video ones! And, I didn't think that was possible!

I think SixOFour put it well:

i cant help feeling like i'm watching a cult recruitment video

"Cellular devices" as a category are actually a pretty strict regulatory environment....

I don’t get it…. Cars already do this, why the need for CarPlay?
Looks more like, look we can’t do our own car, so let’s screw up the UI of others. 🤷‍♂️
Yes...my digital dash does this, but not as well as the full Apple CarPlay integration I want.

The dash they showed looks just like my VW digital dash, but I would have to use their ugly crappy VW Nav screen in the dash....it won't even show what is playing on Apple Music...

I look forward to at least the option of having an Apple dash option.
