Honestly, Apple is not the innovative company they once were. Instead we now see the tech with other companies and then with Apple but their UI.
Yeah, they’re nowhere near as innovative as they were when they released the iMac. And the iMac again. And the iMac again. And the iMac again. And the iMac again.

Saying we have been waiting since iOS18, without mentioning name convention changes, looks like we've been waiting for 10 years... context matter people.

If they shoehorn google gemini into it, it's gonna suck.

Me last night on my pixel 9 pro: "Hey google set a reminder at 10am tomorrow."
Google: "what would you like to be reminded of, and when?"
Me: "Get Hulu for $5 a month"
Google: reads out loud a paragraph of Hulu's pricing models and available deals

I stop it. I try again.
Google: "what would you like to be reminded of, and when?"
Me: "Get Hulu for $5 a month"
Google: "I can't manage your subscriptions for you."

3rd try:
Me: "Hey google, set a reminder tomorrow at 10 am"
Google: "what would you like to be reminded of?"
Me: "Get Hulu tomorrow for $5 a month."
Google: doesn't respond.

4th try, now shouting at the damn thing:
Me: "Hey google, set a reminder!"
Google: "what would you like to be reminded of, and when?"
Me: "get Hulu for $5 a month, tomorrow, 10 am."

Success, if you can call it that.

Driving in my car: "Text Lisa Johnson."
Google: "who would you like to message?" Brings up a list of my siblings, who do not have that last name.
Me:" Text Lisa"
Google: "sorry, messaging isn't available."
me: "TEXT LISA"
Google: "what would you like it to say?"
THEN IT WORKS.

I am not impressed with AI in Google phones. I know the pixel owner responses already.

"It works on mine!" "I don't have those issues." "Sounds like a connection issue." oh, I guess my problems don't exist, then, since some dudes online says theirs is perfect. Which I absolutely do not believe. Out and about in my rural area? Fair enough. At home with fast internet and blazing wifi? No, the problem isn't that.

"Get gemini pro." Oh, you mean I can turn my frustration into a subscription? Pass.

God damn, just LET IT DO SIMPLE STUFF FOR ME THAT IT USED TO DO JUST FINE. Set timers. Set reminders. Call people in my contacts. Text message while driving using voice commands.

Apple is my only alternative. I hope crap works, but Siri has not been impressive for some time.

What I hear from this is other companies Ai solutions are now so good, Apple is able to use them and create their own AI solution.

After a long string of embarrassing setbacks (starting with the Siri acquisition back in 2010) the fact that Apple is finally talking about ‘AI advancements’ suggests that this could be one of the most consequential WWDCs to date, and a genuine watershed moment for Siri’s development.

...Or they could gaslight everyone like they have for the past two years.

Only one way to be sure:

No ai, not used anything ai on my iPhone, just make Siri more like gemini

Hmm?

We've all been using AI since the first iPhone in 2007. The original iPhone keyboard was built around machine learning algorithms. Every time you snap a photo, it's instantly passed through several machine learning algorithms to balance lighting and colour. Every time you do a search on your phone (not in a browser), it's using machine learning results to surface relevant results.

AI is an umbrella term, not to be confused with the more recent advances in "Generative AI", which is just a sub-category of AI.

You say you don't want AI, and yet you want Siri to be like Gemini? If you want Gemini, use Gemini. It works on your iPhone. That's what people misrepresent about Apple... a company that actually sells the hardware that people use to consume the world's AI.
