My predictions for WWDC:

Lion available on the Mac App Store by the end of next week.
iOS 5 available as beta, scheduled for release in October 2011:
  • Better notifications. There is an app for that!
  • Dashboard like in Mac OS X
  • AirDrop support
  • Better Mail.app
  • Safari with HTML5 enhanced support
  • Over the air updates
  • Support for iCloud
  • New APIs for developers. Among them a new background Download API.

iCloud will be the next iteration of MobileMe offering:
  • Email, Calendar, Contacts and Bookmarks sync
  • All iTunes content will be available through iCloud. No other content will be allowed. If a user has a valid license for a song or movie, he/she will be able to stream it to his/her device.
  • Priced at 79€ a year

+1
I think you come pretty close to the real deal. The sad thing for me is that most of these thing could be 4.x updates for iOS. I really think iCloud is the next ******* online service from Apple with unreasonable limited features and a steep price.

Apple's market cap is almost double Google's - $317.5B for Apple versus $168.6B for Google, according to Yahoo Finance. So why doesn't Apple just buy Google, fire Eric Schmidt, and fold Android into iOS? Best of both worlds. It would also solve Apple's desire to develop its own mapping technologies. While we're at it, Apple should buy ARM too. ARM's market cap is $37B and it seems that most mobile devices are moving to ARM architectures.

As of a year ago, Google had about half as much cash in its coffers as Apple ($20B vs $40B in 2010). Apple is much stronger financially than Google and could buy them in a heartbeat. So why isn't Apple going on a shopping spree? Is it to keep the FTC off their backs?

IF Apple has enough to buy Google (which I don't believe they do), still sounds like a logistical nightmare to me. First of all, Google is quite a bit more than just android... and do you have any idea how difficult it would be to combine the two OS's? I don't think Apple would have any desire to do that anyway. You know what? My head is spinning with so many reasons this would be awful, but my desire to enumerate them all is very small. So I will just say, no.

- Facetime over 3G

Apple restricted FaceTime to WiFi at the behest of AT&T. Had it been any other phone, I'm willing to be that carriers would have made that decision unilaterally.

Also, do you have any idea how fast you would burn through your data allowance (assuming you're on AT&T)? I don't agree with you on this one. I don't particularly care for FaceTime over 3G.

Here's what is really going to happen at WWDC, and you can count on it:

General Press: Wow!

PC Press: Eh.

Average Consumer: Huh?

MacRumors Posters: FAIL! I'm switching to Android!

Haha!!! It's so true, though.

People's surprise/disappointment depends on expectations.

If the iCloud is really smart implemented and allow me to put my purchases on the server it would wow me; even more if the movies are included. When a new designed TC would be able to act as cache between me and the cloud plus able to use my NAS as secure storage, that would really wow me.

No twitter needed; same for widgets.

I do hope some very very basic and simple things are sorted out.

Take the iPad Photo app, There are 3 things people ask how to do, again and again and again since the very 1st launch day of iPad1.

1: How to I make Folders on the iPad - Sorry, you can't

2: How do I sort photo's on the iPad into their appropriate folders? Drag them? - Sorry, you can't

3: how do I put them in order on the iPad as they are all out of sequence? - Sorry, you can't.

Let's hope fundamental stuff like this is sorted out. Fancy new things are all nice, but these nuts and bolts problems are what confuses so many people.

I expect Apple to solve all my problems today

Im not kidding. I've always been a huge Apple fan but there's so many holes in my setup that I felt things could be much much better. Well today's the day..

OSX Lion will show me why I should care about a desktop anymore

MacBook Air Update will convince me that I no longer need a $2000 MacBook Pro

Time Capsule Will enable me to turn off my computers and just let this little box serve up my iTunes library

IOS 5 will fix all those outdated spots in the OS that are outdated in comparison to the competition

IOS 5 on AppleTV will finally give us apps and make the aTV more useful

IPhone on Sprint will mercifully allow me to throw away this Palm Pre

So that's my thoughts. I may be overly optimistic but I think Apples been prepping for this moment for years and will go beyond our expectations so even if they don't satisfy everyone's needs, they're definitely going to wow us with something.

Two Facetime related features I'd like to see:

- "Facemail"- Video voicemail for when users are not near a hotspot or can't answer.

-A lightbar for the iPad implementation of Facetime to illuminate the users face during lowlight conversations. This is less of a problem for iPhone users since the device is frequently held closer to the users face providing enough lighting for a clear image.

For iOS 5 in general I'm still wishing for better rules and filters in Mail. This is one area where Apple could really take the lead over its rivals. It would also be nice to see fast dialing implemented by dragging a contact on to the homescreen.

I expect to be wowed by iCloud, especially if some of the newer rumors of local caching to a TimeCapsule pan out. That is just incredibly cool. I expect the Wow of iOS and Lion to stem from their integration to iCloud.
I'm unconvinced on iCloud until they explain exactly how it works for iOS users because the idea of streaming on limited data plans isnt very appealing to me. But most likely ill buy a new TC.

I sold my old 500GB TC in preparation for the anticipated TC Update... And that was 2 years ago. Time Capsule needs an update pretty bad and if it adds new features making it a little box that serves iTunes and caches iCloud then I'm happy they took so long.

I love how everyone isn't convinced on Lion-iCould-iOS5 and the Keynote hasn't even happened yet or they want more explanation on something that hasn't even been explained a first time.

I wish Ford would explain a little more about there flying car that they haven't announced yet. Hilarious.

Are you kidding? Apple DID announce the WWDC topics would be iCloud, Lion and iOS5 then why wouldn't people want to hear more and be convinced on how this will all affect our personal workflows or development plans.

This is exactly how things are supposed to work. A product gets announced, then explained and then the consumer/developer makes their plans for it. Buying blindly into "concepts" with no need for explanation is ridiculous.

I agree with this. There SHOULD rightly be a functionality gap between the iPhone and iPad. Don't cripple the capabilities of the iPad, just because it wouldn't work on a smaller scale. I think Apple has been too focused on keeping uniformity between the two, which of course is good, but I think there's a point when you want more.

Thanks.

Edit: Think they are just doing a liveblog.

Update: And we're done. Sorry for breaking UStream -- we'll have a saved version of the video up shortly. In the meantime, why not bookmark our liveblog of today's event?

I think what they did was actually fairly deceptive. The title and content of that page never specifically indicated that they would be streaming the keynote live, rather it just said "streaming live from WWDC", which actually meant "we're going to do a little show with our predictions and such as we sit in the lobby and wait".

Cheap trick to bring in traffic. My guess is they're getting hurt very badly by Josh's new blog since he left and took anyone that was worthwhile with him over at thisismynext.com. Here's where you want to be today:
