i wouldnt do that because...

I know. Selling Apple stock is the Wall Street equivalent to saying, "Know what? I think that I'll just pass on this suitcase filled with *insert Brobdingnagian amount of money here* non-counterfeit, non-stolen dollars that was given to me as a gift."

I just said that to mirror his post in a completely negative fashion.

agreed, most Mac-fans will be disappointed:

"Keynote
Monday, June 9, 2008

Apple Executives will showcase Mac OS X Leopard and OS X iPhone development platforms beginning at 10:00 a.m. at San Francisco’s Moscone West."

This was taken from the "special events" section of Apple's very own webpage.

It will be mostly about the iPhone, and maybe a reference to 10.6. That will be all :(

I have a good feeling that Apple will be handing out speed pills and coffee just to keep everyone there awake. Jobs himself is scheduled to yawn an hour after it starts.

I don't expect anything big like a redesign on the MB/MBP. Everyone knows that the 3g iphone will be released, (If it isn't all hell breaks lose and Jobs gets burned at the stake). I personally Would love a new MBP, but like I said not expecting it, will end up buying one after WWDC either way. New ACD's would be great, but that would take a miracle to happen. Mini-Tower won't ever happen, Apple doesn't want to be in that market IMHO. If I eat crow, I eat crow.

I still have some hope though... i mean... the G5 was released at WWDC, the announcement to move to intel was at WWDC, the Mac Pro was at WWDC. All big things relating to mac, specifically their 'upper line' which is what developers use. Theres a chance they could mention new macbook pros... even with intels delay, they might just come out a month after the announcement or something. It Just seems like a good place to announce it, you know?

I don't think everyone will be disappointed - however there will be some and quite vocal disappointment.

I've had my share in the past but I remain a "cup is half full" sort of person and feel the general trend is pretty damn good. This year I wont be disappointed cus I just got my Macbook and I love it.

I would like to see a Tablet released with multi-touch just to see it on the news.

"Apple releases iTouch tablet - trounces Windoze".

This is after I spent several days seeing headlines announcing multi-touch on windoze 7.

Haha, that one made me laugh. I sure as hell hope it's not like that. IMO none of the past keynotes have been anything close to boring (well, except some guest speakers were pretty boring).

Well obviously not...but I mean it seems like they're not really building up to it. Remember from MW, "there's something in the Air" - THAT was exciting! The way they put it in the description makes it seem kind of plain...I mean I'm hoping for some cool new announcements as much as the next person is , but having been here at MR for a while now, I have certainly noticed the trend of people having way, way too high expectations. People are always disappointed for some reason after keynotes. So I'm just trying not to let the excitement get out of hand...the more excited everyone on here gets the more they will be disappointed when the keynote doesn't live up to their expectations.

I completely agree with you...but we just don't know. What I am sure of though is that (like a previous poster mentioned) there will be some sort of surprise i.e. last year safari on windows, time capsule at MWSF, etc etc. Those were definitely unexpected.

I'll be very surprised if there's any mention of 10.6. If I recall correctly, Apple have already said that OS releases would slow down after Leopard, which itself was delayed due to resources being moved to iPhone development. Since Leopard's release I'd guess that those same engineers have been busy working on iPhone 2.0 and fixing Leopard :)

I don't think there's been time to respond directly to Windows 7, as theses Keynotes are scripted and rehearsed months in advance. On the other hand, if Apple were to release a tablet now, there's no reason why Leopard hasn't been modified to be multi-touch (10.5 MT), but let's not get carried away chaps ;)

Reading all these threads, I've come to the conclusion that WWDC will disappoint just about everyone.

Yeah we're not going to see any new hardware, except possibly the 3G iPhone and maybe Cinema Displays. We will be seeing a 10.6 preview (as Steve promised after Leopard that they'd be doing releases every 12-18 months), something on the iPhone SDK and could well see "Mobile Me" AKA the new .Mac

You recall incorrectly:

Steve Jobs after Leopard said:
I'm quite pleased with the pace of new operating systems every 12 to 18 months for the foreseeable future

Mac mini update? New Mac mini?

Surely most people remember the switch from PPC to intel?

When they introduced the intel Mac mini, Steve said something along the lines of "and we have added more USB ports because of customer feedback".

Well, two things are still a bit annoying about the Mac mini:
- the slow/small 2.5" drive (you can get a much bigger, faster and cheaper 3.5" drive)
- the weak GPU. However, intel is improving and I would be more than happy with the GMA X4500 with shared 128MB, since it has Open GL 2.0.

There's also the 2GB (3.3GB unofficially) RAM limit. But that is chipset-related, so I guess the next rev. will be 4GB max, which is a lot for such a small box and the target customers.

Sure there's some people who want a PCI-e slot but that's not going to happen IMHO. An :apple:TV-sized (but taller than :apple:TV) Mac mini with a 3.5" drive and a decent mid-range GPU would be enough to make most Mac mini users happy.

Well, I hope those mystery containers are full of headless midrange Macs.

We will see Mr. Robot. Being negative towards apple is a hobby for many.

My Guess for WWDC '08

iPhone 3G
AppStore+SDK talk
mention of OS 10.6

for sure, and then

updated mac mini (if it doesn't happen at WWDC '08, say goodbye to mac mini)
possible MB/MBP case updates - though unlikely
apple tv anyone?

as has been said before, after WWDC '06 and MWSF '07, everything is going to be a letdown

We'll see what the educational promo brings on Tuesday.....

O

Hmmmm.... As I recall, educational promo usually clears stock for items that won't be available until fall. So, this still would leave us with another teaser along the lines of "Hey, guess what cool new product we made that you can't have for 6 months" (a la the iPhone)

The one thing I have failed to understand is this tablet PC form factor. Maybe I am dumb, but I just don't get it as to why someone would need that. I understand there is probably a niche for it, but is that niche really big enough for Apple to move into.

Secondly, I very much doubt the Air will have a spec bump. I know Apple updates frequently, but not that soon. It has only been available for about 5 months.

The odd product in the line-up seems to be the MacBook. It is the only product in Apples line-up that isn't aluminum. I would love to have that added durability in my MacBook and it would further help me justify why I spent a bit extra on it over the Windows equivalents.

A 3G iPhone seems very likely. The amount of press it is getting is unbelievable. I just hope the rumors are not true that they are moving towards plastic iPhones. The one thing I love about my iPhone is the build quality. Comparing it to other phones is like chalk and cheese. Maybe they will follow the route of the iPod, having a cheaper Nano-type model in plastic with less space and fewer features possibly on a pay-as-you-go tariff and a higher spec model with aluminum and glass with more capacity and more features much like the existing tariff. Hopefully Apple will find a way of getting out of these exclusive contracts. What happened to all the innovative new things AT&T and Apple were going to work on. Visual voicemail is the only thing, and there is no way I am going to move to O2 just for visual voicemail, until then I will keep my unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile.

After Macworld 07 with the iPhone announcement people will always continue to be disappointed. The introduction of the iPhone was not a yearly occurrence. That sort of announcement happens like once a decade.

mini detail about WWDC...

WWDC is for developers, not pro users. It's for people who write code for a living, not people who use Final Cut and the like.

An updated Mac mini, perhaps even back to its original 499$US price point, is probably more needed than anything else for all those "I only have a Windows PC but still want to make iPhone/iPod touch apps" coders.

You won't be selling all-in-ones to these people (they already have a PC and monitor, keyboard, mouse, they're not about to pay again for the whole system, even if it does run Windows, they can't sell back their old PC*) and a Mac Pro is overkill for a simple dev platform for iPhone/iPod touch applications.

A Mac mini with enough RAM is more than suited to be the perfect dev platform for the iPhone/iPod touch. And they can put it on top of their PC tower too.

* yes they can, but PCs don't keep their value like Macs, so it's pointless to even think about it since we're talking about a 1200$+ iMac on top of losing whatever they paid for their PCs, vs 500$ for a Mac mini.

as long as the new iphone has GPS, maybe video conf is ready right away and 2.0 is ready soon with some cool apps I will be very happy.

I've been disappointed since WWDC 2006. It isn't anything new. Why get my hopes up?

Can someone explain this?

Why not release a good graphic card on macbook or mini? Really? Why?

If its the fastest selling, they sure aren't doing motion anyway, why cripple (it went from 71% OX 10.4.11 1st to 141% 2nd gen, to 171% with 10.5.2, then scaled down to 70% with X300) and the open GL test is really slow now.

SO why? Why cripple it for the smallest user base that apple has now, the pro users? Why? Where is the business model in that? Surely the PRO market share does not make them their salaries. So why do it? Why not make it so everyone that buys it could run doom or unreal, and then the small market-share or pro's can run motion if they want. I am sure they would still have a MBP or M Pro as theses machines would still have many more advantages over a macbook, i.e. eSata express card slot running two hard drives in raid to boot up and run OS and SAMPLES or VIDEO. I just don't think the macbook would replace the pro machine but would in fact become a 2nd machine to many of these users.......expanding the user base.

So why? :eek::apple:
