64-bit

Here is betting the OS 11 will be completely 64-bit and all Apple computers will be 64-bit capable by the end of the year (ie no more yonah).

Agreed. I really hope they increase the resolution and drop the prices.
Actually I'd want them to decrease the resolution and increase prices.....

I love MacRumors, but c'mon...

That's a given.

Huh? What does "OS 11" mean?

Intriguing? More like completely obvious. Apple has incorporated new and impressive visual effects in every major updated version of OS X. Why would anyone expect Leopard to be any different?

Anyway, that was a lot of words to say absolutely nothing. MacRumors should consider doing a round-up of the rumors we have from proven sources. That would be interesting reading.

Apart from the Mac Pro hardware introduction and possibly better pricing on the Cinema Displays, this little tidbit has got me really excited!

Don't get too excited for lower prices on the ACD's. Apple will wind up adding a few things like higher resolution and iSight, then feel justified to continue selling them at premium. Remember, buying the Apple logo costs more.

where would they put the camera on the front? the speaker is there it's like the nano, the headphone jack is on the bottom because the screen is up top. i guess they would most likely switch some things around.

Okay, I hate celeron, but u sure you have your Windows configured correctly, or do you have some program eating up a ton of memory?

Something is definitely not right when a 233 Mhz machine is beating out a 2.4 Ghz machine, I don't care WHAT OS they are respectively running.

Two words: Anti Virus. Both Norton and McAfee are pigs. On the machines I have MS Anti Virus (er... 'OneCare',) they scream.

And, the 2.4 GHz Celeron is one of the worst processors Intel ever made. 128 kB of L2 cache on an architecture that just demands 512 kB to run decently. (By the time it came out, the main Pentium 4 was at 512k, so there is no excuse for Intel not including at least 256k.) Plus, it's running on an old, outdated RAMBUS-based system with only 128 MB of RAM. (I can't even find any RAMBUS to upgrade it with.)

edit: I was wrong, the RAMBUS system only has 128 MB of RAM!!! Went back and corrected it. I think Norton alone uses up more than that.

And, yes, I'm sure they're all configured correctly. Now that I realize the 2.4 GHz only has 128 MB of RAM, I think I'll just have it go without AV, and 'retire' it to being only a distributed computing machine.

Yup, camera's on the wrong side. TWO cameras would be more believable than this. (Besides, I actually would expect an Apple phone to be a 'slider' with ultra simple controls on the 'outside', and the keypad on the slider, a la the Nokia N80, among others.

But, the general concept (of it being an 'iChat' phone,) is awesome. Combine a cell phone with a WiFi VOIP phone, and it's perfect.

Even better if Steve-o announces in the Leopard part that the next iChat supports calling out to normal phones (VOIP a la Vonage) free if you have a .Mac subscription, with low international rates, (or even free international calling to select countries.) Or for a monthly cost.

If he announces that, then I guarantee that the "One More Thing" will be the 'iChat Mobile'. (Whatever its real name ends up.) "Oh, using iChat to call land lines? You don't have to wait for Leopard... You can get it (cue slide change) to-day." Available as an unlocked phone direct from Apple, for use with any GSM provider, PLUS it will connect to open WiFi access points for VOIP functionality; both to regular telephones, and to your iChat contacts. I DON'T think they'll lock it in to a specific provider like they did with Cingular and the iTunes phone.

Of course, it will have basic iTunes functionality. I would imagine the same functionality as the nano; POSSIBLY with over-the-air Podcast updating. But NO over-the-air iTMS.

I know but the "hardware" will be in place by the end of the year, every Apple product has switched over to Conroe, Merom, a Woodcrest and left Yonah behind. This will mean that at WWDeveloperC the developers will be told to start writing all your new apps to support complete 64-bit because when 10.5 is released every Apple machine will native 64-bit. 10.5 will support 64-bit(still 32 bit OS) programs more so then 10.4 where 11.0 will be completely 64-bit so the developers will need to be ready.

Windows XP 64 has been a mess, Apple is going to show how a transition is supposed to work.

oooo I want a 20" ACD. Make it $499, please apple please. Oh and S-video in would be nice too! ;)

I think there will be an OS 11. It makes sense. I mean are they just gonna stay with X the entire time. *20 years later* "Well today we are previewing Mac OS 10.25." -Steve Jobs. I mean seriously.
And iSight on the Windows side-eg. for Boot Camp. HDCP or SDI.

I want to hear more about OS 11 (a.k.a. oh sexy)

Of all the posts on this forum thread, almost none are on Leopard or Oh Sexy (OSXI). The reason why is that no one has a bleepin clue. I love it! It's been a long time since Apple has held their cards so close so successfully. Every rumour I've read on Leopard seems as easily made up as it would be a leak. Nothing's clear, and it's making me anticipate the demo even more. My head is going to explode!

They better have a replay of the keynote or I'll cry and die.

iChat Mobile is a very plausible name. Looks cool. Can it hold 1,000 songs? :p

Likely 4GB memory. All iLife and Adressbook synching. If this isn't super expensive I would own one - with a decent case.

Looks like I'm waiting till Paris to get a Mini. It's doubtful they'll see a speedbump, much less Merom till then.
Just give me a mid-tower and I'll order it next week.

I agree although it is possible that we will see a minor speed bump on the mini and/or a price drop in Paris. Yonah is supposed to be EoL"d by mid next year making it possible for a merom mini to be introduced in SF or soon thereafter...with OS11 :)

Ever since I started reading Macrumors, I have always found a good reason to wait a few extra months to upgrade....I wonder how long I'll be able to make the G4 867 "slowsilver" last..
