If it's 64 bit I guess the g4 powerbooks are 10.4 only now. Oh well.

Uh, I was under the impression that it is still 32-bit compatible. If not, my exuberance at a fixed finder is shattered...and that Desktop is gorgeous. Not sure I feel about the menubar yet though. Maybe you can set the opacity.

The blue on the black spotlight logo doesn't quite look right.

I'm happy they've done something about the Finder.

Also interesting to see downloads no longer go on to the desktop. I mentioned this "organisation by default" idea a few weeks ago and many objected.

The coolest thing about the dock is that it doesn't just reflect the dock icons, it reflects the contents of windows moved close to the dock.

Think the aqua scroll-bars look out of place now in my opinion, think they should have been changed.

A mix bag I feel, some of it was just plain rehashed from WWDC.

So the secret feature(s?) was the new desktop. Lets be honest, there wasn't much else that was ground breaking.

I agree - in this respect I was a little disappointed we didn't see more. But in the end, from what I could gather, the updates to the OS seem pretty solid and I'm happy with them. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action on the actual keynote once it's posted...

Desktop
Leopard's new desktop will feature a variety of enhancements, including:
- Enhanced, 3D Dock. Slimmer and more functional.
- Stacks (organization tool similar to a stack of paper). Can fan out or pop up in a grid.
- No more brushed metal. Consistent look.

Readers with keen memories may recall that Stacks (aka "Piles") was originally rumored to be included in OS 10.3 "Panther".

I was so confident that "Piles" would never be realized... how often do obscure Apple Patents actually come true?

R.I.P., brushed metal. I will miss your deciptively smooth bezel. Greetings to you, bland grey. I guess I can get used to you. Why didn't Apple choose to unify OS X with Garage Band's hardwood bezel. Now that would have been hott.

Zfs?

So... The million dollar question: What's the story with ZFS in Leopard? What was the Sun CEO talking about the other day? Someone please tell me the secret to this whole ZFS thing. It sounds so good.. but not one mention of it today

Come on, that isn't what I expected from a new Finder. It's just a side bar that adds nothing but consistency and a flashy and unproductive Cover Flow. About the preview of the icons, this was a big must and so nothing to get amazed by. The only thing that looks nice to me is QuickLook.

I expected something that really changed the way we work with Finder like another more-useful icon view, tabs like in Ubuntu Nautilus or that diferent kind of tabs (I don't know how to call them) from Path Finder that show up all the hierarchy of the folder you're at.

Not very imaginative, Apple.

were the many negatives because the Top Secret features didn't use Multi-Touch/look like Minority Report/abolish windows

or cuz Cinema Display-looking iMacs were not unveiled?

i'm very happy with today and am looking forward to october :) to me, the Finder was one of the weakest points in OS X - so the combination of the new finder, desktop, Spaces, and Quick Look gets a positive from me.

Looks good....over all I'm pretty happy..would have liked to see iLife and iWork..but hey, 10.5 looks great, Safari on Windows is nice, and 3rd part app for iPhone is great

I knew that the WWDC wouldn't be as impressive as it was hyped up to be. I knew a bunch of you guys would be disappointed. Take a good look at the facts: iPhone is coming out June 29. Now, why would Apple decide to release everything they've got (including all secret stuff) at the WWDC? It's just not smart business. What Apple wants to do is keep the public's eye on them at all times (by using the non-existent mindset of "hype"). So, naturally, they're going to spread out the release dates of their really cool stuff. iPhone has got the hype in June and up until October, Leopard will have it. It's all about the flow and control of information and they're certainly masters at that game.

Not surprised. :) However, Apple gets a high-five from me. They released some good stuff today and a fancy new website! ;o

I recall having many arguments with people regarding the fact that Apple could not drop aqua for Leopard. And surprise surprise they haven't.

The core of the GUI (blue gel aqua)is still the same as it was in 10.1.

Unimpressed

Gee, that's what all the hype was about

Where is the productivity increase?

I was hoping for a good, fast and reliable back-up application in the OS and a better search function (get rid of that stupid Google Desktop).

Still think that the best of Leopard is the Time Machine stuff.

I agree it all seems more like eye candy, and doesn't enhance how I work.

With the exception of stacks.

Although, stacks is just an evolution of control clicking a folder in the dock to see its contents

Okay keynote, but nothing special, but then again I am not a programmer - so this isn't for me.

I don't really use the new browsing features in itunes.

whats so different about tabs in safari?

you can pull them out or put them in... kinda hard to explain basically if you have 2 safari windows open you can drag a tab to the other and condense the windows or you can pull a tab out say if you were wanting to keep an eye on that tab with out having to flip back and forth

Looks like Boot Camp did get one improvement (I don't remember it being mentioned during the keynote):

New, faster restarts.
Leopard brings a quicker way to switch between Mac OS X and Windows: Just choose the new Apple menu item “Restart in Windows.” Your Mac goes into “safe sleep” so that when you return, you’ll be right where you were. It’s much faster than restarting the computer each time. Likewise, a “Restart in Mac OS X” menu item in the Boot Camp System Tray in Windows makes for a faster return to Mac OS X. With Windows hibernation enabled, you can pick up where you left off.
