I like it, but I wasn't blown off my socks like I had hoped I'd be.
Perhaps we set our bar(s) too high for Leopard and the "secret" features.
I'll wait 'till later to watch the keynote - and even later then as we see more of Leopard.
Nothing on it makes me want to rush to upgrade - YET.

7/10

Back to My Mac is what interests me most. Now what to do with my 200MB of file storage (the other 800MB is allotted to Mail)...

This keynote was so weak, Jobs should've skipped it. He's really become too enamored with hearing himself talk.

10.5 will support both 32 & 64 bit according to the keynote. No need to buy separate versions like Vista users :)

Retail copies of Vista include a coupon to get 64-bit discs (I think you might have to pay S&H).

OEM copies, on the other hand....

Wasnt there some type of remote desktop function within Leopard mentioned before?

Being able to access any mac and have the ability to move their mouse from your computer?

I wonder how the new dock portrays open applications.

...The little black triangle seems to be a thing of the past.

If you look closely, there is a little blue orb underneath the running applications. I hope the full-sized version makes these orbs easier to see.

I knew that the WWDC wouldn't be as impressive as it was hyped up to be. I knew a bunch of you guys would be disappointed. Take a good look at the facts: iPhone is coming out June 29. Now, why would Apple decide to release everything they've got (including all secret stuff) at the WWDC? It's just not smart business. What Apple wants to do is keep the public's eye on them at all times (by using the non-existent mindset of "hype"). So, naturally, they're going to spread out the release dates of their really cool stuff. iPhone has got the hype in June and up until October, Leopard will have it. It's all about the flow and control of information and they're certainly masters at that game.

Well they can't really put big stuff in it at the last minute. It has to be tested by the developers for compatibility, otherwise it would be a big disaster at release time, a bit like what happened with Windows Vista. So I wouldn't expect any major news about Leopard after this. Except I'm still hoping for ZFS, surely Jonathan Schwartz wouldn't just make something like this up?

So much for the top secrets!
Steve, the keynote was a shame and utterly unimpressive! Some UI change does not increase the work productivity. Changes to Finder, a few desktop goodies don't count to top secrets.

Watch how fast the stock is going down: near 120

If it's 64 bit I guess the g4 powerbooks are 10.4 only now. Oh well.

Not much point in releasing as a Universal binary if the G4s won't run it.

Note that it runs 64-bit alongside 32-bit applications. If you install it on a 32-bit machine, you just don't get the 64-bitness.

So does anyone else think that the coverflow interface is horribly overrated? I played with it once or twice in iTunes and haven't looked at it since. It's pretty and all, but unless everything has a preview its totally useless. I cant use it in iTunes because half my music doesnt have cover (even with their "get cover art" feature) and I don't have hours to drag and drop from Amazon (or want to mess with any 3rd party apps). In the finder its going to be worse. Whats the point of flipping through a pile of generic Quark document icons? Unless they magically figured out a way to preview something besides picture files and PDFs.

does anyone else think that the transparent menu bar looks absolutely disgusting?

Yeah awful... The menu bar has to be clear to read at all times. Hopefully that can be turned off. Though I can imagine a workaround: Create an image of your preferred desktop at the right resolution, then leave the top xx pixels white! That should do it.

I will also greatly miss the rounded corners on the menu bar. It's just so mac. They should have left them in there. But I guess with transparency it would look weird to have either black or background-coloured pixels there.
