wow really expensive, still one of my all time best game and still play it with mates. It should be on Steam so available to Mac & PC, what a weird port not including all of the game, and weird high price.

It runs on my 2011 i7 MBA so I guess it'll run on you MBP as well.

Does it play well on your machine? Does the fan run constantly? I may pay just to be able to play it again as it was a favorite... but I recall it really pushed the limits of video cards when I ran it before, and was worried about the embedded graphics on the MBA.

I just checked, it's the same price on steam for PC. I'm willing to bet since this is an older game, there's not too many people on multiplayer now anyway.

This is an outstanding game and the multiplayer community is still quite active, however most of the players are high level and it's hard not to get slaughtered.

I'm not an avid gamer so I am not into gamer politics. I recognize that the Mac platform is not a primary demographic for the newest and greatest games. This doesn't really matter to me. I generally play a game for years, if it's any good, and I won't buy it at all if it's not worth playing for many years. Consequently the price is secondary to the quality of play. So my question is whether this one performs well on the minimum hardware configuration. If anyone has downloaded this game for running on a 2.4 Ghz C2D iMac with a Radeon HD2400, I'd appreciate a report.

This game is still quite demanding as hardware goes and requires fairly hefty hardware if you want high to ultra graphics. The HD2600 bootcamp could handle low-medium with minimal lag, while the iMac with a 5750 or higher can handle most setting with some low AA. Graphics and explosions are still considered very good even today. Given OS X poorer performance relative to Windows for the same game I'd say the 2400 would provide a sub-par experience.

$50 is too much for a crippled version of the game considering the AI is not spectacular (it's good but experienced plays can crush it on even the highest difficulty settings). Game probably uses DirectPlay or some other Windows only networking tech.

As Mac become more prevalent and Apple moves into more mainstream we might expect to see more Windows/Mac combinations at better price points over the next couple of years.

Cheers,

I don't have anything to compare it to. I haven't touched the graphics settings but just installed and hit run. Started out with the tutorials and they ran without a problem.

But yes, the fan runs like h... so you'll think your computer will start hovering if it's not kept down.

I have a MacBook pro 13 inch and it works brilliantly. But I also had the PC cd version and it lagged majorly on my emachines laptop. :D

For those complaining about the price, fact that it's 5 years old, etc, etc, etc - you don't have to buy it!!

Get a life - if that's what it costs then that's what it costs - you don't like it then buy something else

Agreed

I agree with guy curlewis. At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure that they are not going to change the price. Although it would be nice if they put a skirmish mode on there. :D

The term "get a life" should be outlawed.

If it's used on the internet it should carry a sentence of a lifetime ban from the internet, so the poster can stand up and go outside to realize how idiotic it is to tell someone to find more important things to do with their life by posting a trivial comment on a internet message board with no intrinsic value at all.

Fair point Arcane - it is a horrible saying - I'll retract that part of the post - however lifetime ban!!!! - having a bad day??

Mac Mini "Mid 2011" Core i5 2.3Ghz, 8Gb, WB Black Scorpio 500GB 7200rpm HDD, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphic. Game graphic settings are set a mixed of High/Ultra except for the Trees which was set to medium. Sound set to 128. Resolution set to 1920x1200. It's quite laggy as seen in the video. If not because of the screen recording and time machine doing it's backup, I can get a decent 30 fps. averaging at 25 fps if there's lots of activities on the screen. Actual game graphics are much better as compared to the video. I wonder if they will do a port of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War.

Now the game has 80% sale on Steam.

Mac users will never get this kind of thing, and will always pay ripoff to play on their operating system.

One day hopefully these developers will port the games themselves, release on Steam so we get same benefit as Windows users, even if it is ported on Wine. I will never pay ripoff money to Aspyr or Feral for 5 year old games sold at such ridiculous price.

This is one of my favorite RTS games. Will this run on my mbp????

13 inch, mid 2009
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

*fingerscrossed*
