Sometimes, it’s IUP stock. So, it’ll light up green, but unless you’re in the Apple Upgrade program, you cannot reserve it.

I am an AT&T Next customer and had no problems reserving one for that program for pickup this afternoon.

Too bad Apple requires you to enter Verizon account details to reserve one. Don’t know how I can do that since I don’t have a Verizon line. :(
Glad to hear this. It is a strong control by Verizon and Apple preventing any non Verizon customers getting Verizon phone easily as a lot of non Verizon customers are drooling over the superior Verizon phone and would do anything to cheat or doing fraudulent techniques to snap the phone from the rightful Verizon customers. I hope Verizon and Apple strengthen their control more by not letting any walk-in non Verizon customers get Verizon phone. Any purchases of Verizon phone must be verified with Verizon account and the account holder could not cancel their account for 3 months.

There were so many t mobile, Verizon, Att popping up last night. Almost no sprint stock for some reason.

So all this up all night preordering, and waiting in line nonsense was for nothing?

It depends. If you live in a city with an Apple Store and you couldn't get a launch day delivery date, it may have been worth it not to wait. But stock has been very sporadic and selling quickly. I wasted more time tracking iStock and looking for notifications than I care to admit.

The Verizon phone and the Sprint one are the same. It's not really a "superior" phone. The don't have the CDMA bands in AT&T and T-Mobile because neither network uses them in the first place. Actually, very rarely does any Verizon or Sprint person use them unless they live in the boondocks.

The phone sold at Best Buy for ALL networks has always been the same model, which is the one that Verizon and Sprint have and it is always unlocked.

That could have changed this year, but I don't know why it would have.

Why shouldn't a person be able to walk in and buy whatever phone they want? What if my sister was on Verizon and I was in charge of picking up her Christmas iPhone for our parents? I'd need to spoil the surprise by making her show up to get her own present? Plenty of these are given as Christmas gifts by parents and grandparents, etc every year and not all members of extended families are on the same phone carrier.

Just check Apple.com at 6am. You can reserve for pickup.

If you see it in there and it's available to you, it's not part of the IUP stock. Unless you're on the IUP.

I haven't been on in awhile since I only come on when there's a new iPhone being released. But there's so much stock right now in the New Jersey/NYC area. I can reserve one right now but I'm still on the fence about it. I have a 7+ and can upgrade yearly with VZW. It would be an extra $9 per month. I owe $320 on my 7+ so I could pay it off and come out a bit better in the end. I don't know what to do. Maybe I should play with one at the store before making my decision.

That's interesting. How'd you access this stock?

As mentioned above, just go through Apple. I just selected it from the app. Once you select your configuration, it’ll say what models are available for local pickup.

It lets you select if you want to switch to IUP or keep AT&T. You select all the terms and a pick up time.

The local stock updated about 11:00 last night. Suddenly it went from ‘not available at the 12 closest stores’ to available all over town.

But it looked like the AT&T models sold pretty quick.

Ahh... that makes sense. If you switch to IUP, it reserves stock out of IUP, if there is any marked especially for IUP.

Just wondering how it works now. I've had mine since launch day. I'm glad you got one!

Go ahead and reserve it. Play with one in the store before you pick yours up. If you don't like it, cancel the reservation. The stock comes and goes.

I read the post as sarcasm.

So they open at 10?
Here you go, Mall of America. You can easily check on apple.com as it tells you what time they are open.

Are you going? Could I ask a favor and even pay you? I’m stuck at my desk.
Sorry I don't live in Minnesota, but live next state over. Only reason why i looked up that place is because your location stated Minneapolis.
