People are acting like you’re guaranteed to get top dollar. Look at the ‘sold’ prices on ebay. They are all over the place. In CA I’d pay like $1270 for the 256GB model. Add $50-75 for overnight shipping. Ebay and PayPal take like 9-12%. I’d have to get $1450 just to break even.

Ebay/PayPal tend to side with the buyer. Ebay is trying to compete with Amazon so sellers are forced to accept returns no questions asked. There’s no way to prove you actually shipped them an iPhone X. Buyer can return an old phone to you and claim it was the original phone you sent.

People can pull scams like that? So hypothetically, if you took photos of a sealed box and receipts, then Joe Blow decides to put an old Motorola Razr in the box and claim that was what they got, you have to take that old Razr back and then give the $ back to the buyer? Can't you file a police report if someone did that to you? That is really fudged up someone do such a thing. I can see why Gazelle and Pawn Shops are much more preferred than eBay.

Sure and the police will do nothing as you have no proof absent maybe video recording yourself at the post office sealing it and handing it to USPS in 1 take.

That is why Gazelle and those services blew up so popular.

All that stuff would be a good idea but at the end of the day there’s no way you can prove that an iPhone X was delivered. All the buyer has to do is claim you sent them something else or just that they changed their mind and ship you back a box with a brick in it. They have a tracking number that ‘proves’ they shipped it back to you. PayPal tends to side with the buyer in these situations. Good luck trying to get the police in another state to give a crap about such a minor crime. They have bigger fish to fry.

Sold on Craigslist since I was a teen. Never has the slightest of a problem. Use common sense, live long.

I’d be worried about getting paid in fake bills. We have a police station parking lot we can use locally to meet people for Craigslist sales so I wouldn’t be worried about getting robbed.

Use a bill marker and be diligent. If I’m selling a phone, I’d be fine with having them call the carrier to confirm it’s unlocked or go into an Apple store.

On the flip, it’s exoected that I’ll take means to ensure the money is real. Anything can happen but Personally I trust Craigslist over eBay

That's why they make bill pens, but usually you can hold them up to the light and see the watermarks and other counterfeit protections.

craigslist if you want profit

Every 1 year old phone I've ever sold has been on CL... meeting up at a Verizon store for the transaction and verification. Easy.

Same here.

Am I going to put my life in danger meeting a buyer alone? At night? Windy?

Of course not.

Not only that but what is eBay's cut? 25%? Paypal's cut?

I quit selling on there because not only was their fees just ridiculous but the buyers were always favored over sellers when it came to complaints. My feedback rating was perfect but I still had a few buyers try to pull one over on me and it was really just a huge hassle.
lol 25% wtf...no.

eBay takes 10%
paypal takes 2.5%

... and still favor the buyers. It's too easy to get screwed on eBay as many posters in this thread
have already listed examples.

But yeah, go ahead and send your phone out to Joe Blow so he can claim he received a Razr in the box, dispute the payment, your account will be debited for the money he paid you... and you are SOL.

Meh, it's easier just to meet at the Verizon store with a CL buyer.

Cash money. Less hassle.

And put your life in danger. Make a few hundred bucks to risk your life. That’s great advice....
Meet at a Starbucks or a police station or somewhere public. Also, avoid high crime areas.

Most people are honest and decent. Very rare that you’d get jumped over a Craigslist deal.

If someone wanted to take the risk of selling an iPhone for a large amount of money, I would do it in person. But I would do it in a safe and populated area, and bring somebody to accompany you. I would rather have the cash in hand versus selling online.

Biggest fear:
>getting paid fake money
>getting stabbed
[doublepost=1509170551][/doublepost]I bought an extra one and had plans on selling it but I changed my mind now. I have good selling cred but it’s not worth the risk. Just going to simply return it and hope the restock makes someone’s day.

Are you someone's fear mongering grandmother? You'd be a great fit.

"Risking your life". Hilarious. There are probably tens of millions of Craigslist transactions that happen every day. What about the buyers? Are they risking their lives too? You are being quite presumptuous when you assume people won't take proper safety precautions.

Some people just love to be a wet blanket. Excited about making a few dollars on Craigslist? No don't do it, there are killers ready to take your money and your life!

Whatever.

Or do it inside the buyer's bank. I'm very hesitant to accept large bills from a stranger. I will accept bills directly from a bank teller though. Lots of cameras in there. Anyone who agrees to meet inside of a bank is not going to pull anything shady.

If you have to be a fool to buy a phone that hasn't been released yet from eBay. You could pay the money and the seller can easily screw you by keeping the phone in the end.
