This was my idea! based on the number of active users back in the day, it seemed obvious. Jack didn’t listen and now Elon is taking credit for it.
Besides being from the future, I don’t understand why content writers feel the need to write, “formerly known as Twitter.” Either accept the change to X, or just call it Twitter. They certainly don’t need help from the media to let everyone know they’ve changed (ruined) their branding!

Twitter now has soooo many bots, many of them with blue ticks, so this rational is a joke. How many times have I seen a link to a “buy the T-shirt!” post. Never happened pre-nazification.

I know you’re joking, but spammers pay quite a lot for accounts. So an extra dollar per account is literally nothing to them.
Trainwreck after trainwreck, there’s no way this parade of mismanagement and stupidity isn't on purpose. He cant actually be this dumb for real. Last I saw, the lenders Elon borrowed the cash to buy twitter from were openly talking about going after him for their enormous losses. I wonder how much more valuation it can lose before all that other business debt he piled on it just wisks away into the ether and we get to hear him make an SEC defense out of all the halfarsed moves he made as proof he tried to make it work in earnest.
This is a great way to pretty much reduce new user growth to basically 0%. And Twitter is already past it’s prime. If anything, it needs more users to prevent it from becoming irrelevant.
It will take many years for something as big as Twitter to die, even with Elon making that process faster than anyone thought plausible.
Twitter's great if you like porn bots liking your tweets I guess.
These bots already pay for a verified badge to be pushed to the top on one’s feed, I doubt they care about 1$
Twitter is a private company. It isn't the public square paid for by tax $.
When social media's free malevolent populist leaders were able to leverage it to win elections and hearts and minds.
It is so bizarre to see someone complain about "populist" and then worry about a threat to democracy in the pas passage. Populism IS democracy.
It's so little money for trolls and spammers, too.
Troll factories and spammers making any kind of money can easily afford $1 a year.
So I don't see how this fixes the bot problem.

And again, figure out how democracy works - the popular choice wins. Populism.
And the Filipinos wanted that drug war because they didn’t want to turn into Mexico. That is why he was elected.
China has nothing to do with populism or democracy so bizarre you would bring that up.
