Let's take that a step further. 7 years ago Elon was making claims that his cars would be robotaxis by 2020, we'd be on Mars by 2021, buying anything other than a Tesla was like buying a horse...etc. etc. It was around that time that his celebrity caught up with reality and people started asking why anyone believes any of this. From there, it's all downhill.
My car drives itself start to finish flawlessly 99% of the time. I expect robotaxi in 1-2 years. After I got a Telsa (because I did a self driving demo I don’t really care for electric otherwise) other cars do seem old.

Musk is absurdly ridiculously optimistic about timelines and his timelines can safely be ignored. But the things are progressing and are likely to happen relatively soon with regards to the robotaxi.

Yeah but I think we clearly know that Cook doesn't come up with any product designs or ideas and that Apple is a massive team. Where as the internet seems to think Tesla IS Elon.

Cook deserves credit for steering a huge ship as a successful CEO. That's what he is, a good manager. Not a visionary or a creative. But he doesn't pay some kids to play a game 23 hours a day and claim it's him that's 7th in the world either.

At this point i'm not sure how much involvement Musk has with any of the companies - I doubt he's been at Tesla for months. He appears to be full time into this government thing - whatever it is. He's on Twitter for HOURS a day, i'm running one small business and I don't have time to do that, he's the CEO of what 3, four businesses?
For all our sakes he should get off X and stop the government stuff. He is too valuable a talent to waste so much time on X and waste time doing govt stuff. Just like his video games I really hope someone is actually posting on X for him.

Why would we ever doubt such bold claims without evidence? Elon told us he was the best at RPG video games and that was true right?

Good to see new models coming up and how they compete with each other. Expecting AI models to improve a lot in the near future.

Why do we continue to give credit to this guy? If you want to celebrate the team fine, but let's not pretend this dude is in there coding and developing the LLM. He's not designing rockets or building batteries or electric motors. He's a money guy who spews a bunch of vaporware promises to pump his value in the company.

We don't give Warren Buffet direct credit when all the companies he's invested in go up in value. Why are we giving this carnival barker so much credit?

wouldn't you say the same about steve jobs?

Competition is good, but I'll take everything Musk declares with a grain of salt.

I need proof that it is vastly superior, and I'll believe it. If it's so much better than anything OpenAI does, why the hell did he want to buy them last week? 🙄

As for the "maximally truthful" selling point, with all the declarations he made on X so far this year, I just don't believe it one minute.
He was messing with OpenAI a week before Grok-3 released, and was seeking to force their hand in decision making. There has been rumours that OpenAI are trying to move from non-profit to “for profit”. In offering them $97Bn, a for-profit would have to consider all offers which could take the company out of Sam’s control. “For profit’s” have to maximise shareholder value.

By not taking the $97Bn, they would have to answer to shareholders, or reaffirm commitment to their non-profit status.

It obviously got to Sam as he said “I just wish he [Elon] would compete by building a better product”.

In not taking the offer, and Grok-3 is now showing an order of magnitude performance improvement over the publicly available OpenAI models, it makes them turning down the offer look a little silly, and establishes that they are no longer worth that.

All these people who think Elon doesn’t know what he’s doing…..he didn’t get to be the worlds richest dude because he’s stupid.

Despite what everyone thinks about Musk, I really think that iOS 19.x should allow the ability of Apple Intelligence to choose whatever AI engine you want to use, whether OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Meta AI, Alibaba's Qwen, Xai Grok, and so on.
This was in the developer presentations. It is an API and other providers will be able to use it.
