Yes, it means they're not original with their ideas, engineering, and marketing. Not surprising coming from Chinese companies.
LOL!

Thank you for the laugher!
EDIT:
Wonder if people that get so touchy about design feel the same about let's say lightbulbs... I never met anyone claiming X manufacturer should sue Y manufacturer cause lightbulbs looks the same... or computer screen, or glasses.

Sure, Xiaomi is "taking on Apple" even though they're not a viable global competitor. Samsung isn't even "taking on Apple" anymore because their flagship phones don't even come remotely close in sales. It's like saying the Phoenix Suns are "taking on" the Golden State Warriors just because they made a personnel change.

You do realize that this is a title thread not a statment from Xiaomi right? :D:D:D

Who is talking about wheels and lightbulbs? No one but you, in a bad attempt to deflect and make bad analogies.

No, all cars do not look alike. And lightbulbs are components.

But there's a million ways to design a camera and back, yet Xiamoi's Mix 2 just happens to look just like Apple's iPhone X. Right. It's a blatant attempt to make the Mix 2 look like the iPhone X.

Not defending Apple, Xiaomi just needs to come up with its own fresh designs. :p

I really don't understand why big companies copy another big company. If I wanted an iPhone I would buy one, not knock off. Apple's designs have been really lackluster ever since the iPhone 6. Why are companies ripping these terrible designs off?

C'mon. I really like Xiaomi products, I have several of them myself. But how the camera of the Mix 2S looks is at least "highly inspired" by the camera design of the iPhone X, no doubt at all... They could have shaped it in many several ways, but deliberately chose to imitate the iPhone X there. Besides, although their current product line is way more diverse that the line of Apple, Xiaomi nevertheless has a "certain" history of blatantely copying Apple's design language. See e.g. here:

There is no way you can deny that. That said, as I said, Xiaomi nevertheless makes some great and also innovative products. Just take a look at their current product line, from TVs, laptops, smarthones to smart (home) devices like a really good and cheap(!) robotic vacuum cleaner and so on.

I was referring to the Mix 2. The back looks completely the same. Nice try.

Thanks for your first post, too. Did Xiaomi send you here to defend against their copycat engineering? ;)

Yes I'm a xiaomi employee. They pay me with xiaomi noodles (they did copy those too).

Yes I am not saying that the camera does not look equal, but it is the only part of the smartphone that does..

So hardly a copy phone.

bezelless with in-screen sensors (holy grail) > symmetry with small bezels > chin > notch

No FaceID or 3D camera system, no sale. The awkward rear fingerprint design was roundly criticized when it was rumored Apple might do it, and for good reason. Plus, it runs Android, will the phone support updates?

Yes Xiaomi even though slow is pretty good at supporting older HW.

Just got a major update to my Mi Mix 2 (from Android 7 to 8 ) but the main updates are on MIUI (wich is based on Android).

For example Split screen wich was a feature of Android 8 was in MIUI 9 based on Android 7 , so you do not need to wait for major android releases to have its features.

We have a Xiaomi 5S Plus from 2016 here. They update their phones on a regular basis, much more often than many other Android manufacturers.

I have the "older model" the Mi Mix 2 ceramic white, amazing phone, I do not like the S version with the camera, it really looks ugly on the backside.

The bezel on the bottm does not bothers me as i can have some grip, all in all the "older model" and version 1 were better looking than this refresh.

Sure the camera quality is gonne be great :D

You would not be disappointed, I have had 3 Xiaomi so far, the Note 4 the Mi 6 and the Mi mix 2, and they all were gret, from the cheapest one to the most expensive.

The ceramic finish is AMAZING!
Same here. I only had the budget ones and they were superb!

Redmi Note
Redmi Note 2 Prime
Redmi 5A Note Prime

All about £100 each with 5.5" LCDs and Phase detect cameras. Honestly, the only thing holding them back is the name. In England people are funny about a Chinese name. I don't mind at all (my wife is Chinese) and my one of my son's name is 'Xiao' so having a phone called Xiaomi is great!

I also have their WIFI security camera, pen, headphones, bluetooth earphones, speaker, etc. All dirt cheap and surprisingly good quality. £15 for a pair of dual driver earphones that are HI-RES certified! Nuts!

I bought the Note 4 just to try it out, and I was sold. (coming form an aging iPhone 6)

The next step was, "What it would be a top tier phone from them if this low budget is that good?" and then came the Mi6 , yes defintly inspired by the iPhone 6 but I do not care who invented what. An boy the ceramic back was AMAZING.

Then later on came the Mi Box (love it) the IP cam wich I use 2 steady and one motorized and the Mi Mix 2.

After that came the Bluetooth joypad, I am definetly a Mi Lover.

If and when another company will prove this good for the price I will switch, as I am not linked to any brand, I buy what works for me and so far nothing came close to the Quality / Price ratio that Xiaomi seems to deliver.

Also I had an issue with the Mi 6 and their support was impeccable, sure I had to ship the device to China (wich took forever) but they refunded the shipping back and forward and replaced the faulty phone (no repair a full new device), cannot say I was not impressed!! It is my experience, others might vary so but far so good!

Right...why would anyone interpret a new product from Xiaomi as "taking on Apple"? Makes zero sense from a reality based competitive standpoint.

Yes, as they roll over laughing to tears over this crappy knockoff.

Ugly, runs Android, and a blatant ripoff over the real industry leader.

My tongue and cheek guess is literally no one with an iPhone will switch to this. More in reality, I bet no one switches from an iPhone to this.
