I have a iPhone X right now and ordered yesterday the iPhone XR in product red. The XS would not feel like a new phone to me and i want the better camera now and not wait for the end of the year for the new iPhone XI.

Here in the U.S. I see a lot of them, but our prices and structure are different than there....

I would imagine the US is it’s most popular market but as you say the price is much more attractive there. Don’t get me wrong, I see the X style iPhones about, but it’s a ratio of around 1/20 compared to other iPhones. A lot of publicity has been placed on how expensive they are and when you see carriers offering an XS for £64p/m and an iPhone 8+ for £30p/m you can see why the latter would be more attractive to someone upgrading. The XR will gain in popularity I think once people start replacing their older phones as the price is reasonable for a mainstream market.

For me personally there is no way I’d spend £1k+ on an iPhone as I can get an iPhone much cheaper and just as capable for my needs. I think now the market has matured and we all know what a smartphone can offer, we see them less as a fashion accessory and more as a tool we are now used to. At least that’s the impression I get.

Ultimately, Apple will not compete on price, certainly not on higher-end models. They will probably price the 'Xr successor' sensibly to maintain the user base.
The sales of higher-end models will depend on new elements they bring to the phone.

Tim Cook said where they will compete, and that will be with ‘Services and trade-in programs’. There is no doubt that I believe Apple will be discussing how they are revamping trade-ins starting in fall 2019 for those upgrading to newer iPhones. Will they reduce their prices drastically? No. But they will try to incentivize the customer to upgrade to a newer device.

I think as long as Apple and observers understand that the XS line is a premium/niche product with a much smaller market appeal then it doesn’t matter. We seem to have assumptions it should be their top selling iPhone ‘because it’s the best’ but demand has changed as far as I can see. The days of every iPhone user demanding the best device seem to be numbered as the range has expanded and there are more affordable models available.

The XR line is their main product going forward I would say and they need to focus more on maintaining its appeal both in price and what it can offer. Stifling it in terms of features in an attempt to push consumers towards spending more than they want to doesn’t work and hasn’t.

The trade in programs here are shocking and it’s much better to sell a device privately in my experience. Carriers here have started to offer 3 year contracts in order to up the appeal of the XS line of late and you even get a free iPad or Apple Watch in some instances. It’s a short term solution though as it just means people will be upgrading a year later going forward so it’s a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face really. The issue of people not upgrading as often is just added to IMO.

Don't forget, in Tim's eyes, the cost is $1 a day - It is just that the number of days between upgrades is now higher. With a 750 million user base, once-in-three years still gives plenty of sales.
Going forward, as long as the base is retained with sensible 'Xr' prices, they can gouge at the higher-end if there are new features on offer

Come Fall 2019, I don’t think the iPhone will be the major part of the keynote, I think the pricing structure will be, which carriers will carry the marketing for Apple. And ultimately Apple has re-strategize their logic based on how they want the consumer to upgrade, considering that the largest part of Apple‘s revenue is the iPhone, hardware is only superficial to the consumer, they don’t see the changes that others do on here, it will take way more effort to provoke customers to want to upgrade with those price points.

I think you’re absolutely right. I don’t think Cook would have said in a recent interview that Apple were looking at ways to bring costs down on their iPhones if they hadn’t recognised that it was an issue at a consumer level or planned to pass on this on to us.

Wish Tim puts money where his mouth is and starts cutting Xs Max prices now

I went with the regular XS. Love it so far. If you are looking to keep it for 3 years honestly I don't think you can go wrong either way. My mother and family are all using the iPhone 6 with no issues. The XR is a little weighty for my taste but has the same processor and the camera is excellent. Personally I like the smaller form factor better.

Yeah...I prefer OLED, esp. since the screen offers true HDR content which is night and day, but I don't agree with their pricing strategy at all. I think they got cocky because the iPX statistically sold very well, but many of those customers are likely satisfied and paying their phones off still. That said, I think all iPhones look premium and I'm sad my iP6S+ died otherwise I wouldn'tve upgraded at all. I miss my headphone jack! I didn't upgrade cause of that till this point and I didn't want to use a dongle. Many lose the dongle, and wired headphones still provide the best audio quality. I have wireless too, but I like my wired headphones as well.

I removed all the music from my iPhone once I bought an 8+ as I’ve found I’m listening to music less these days and it’s partly due to the amount of times I’ve forgotten to keep the dongle with me. I just rely on amazon music now if ever I do fancy listening to music on my phone.

I’m not seeing the benefit of OLED yet as it currently carries a premium price so I’m happy to live without it until it’s affordable. It wouldn’t bother me if my next iPhone in 2 years time had an LCD to be honest.

Your message literally depresses me about my issue about the headphone jack missing and it makes me think it's much worse than I thought. Play music or spend $$$$$$

OLED is definitely more expensive but a hard sell for the difference in $ for many people such as yourself.
I've been a successful sales person and I'm not gonna try to pretend to sell it to you for any difference in money lol. I'm very happy though with the screen resolution and sharpness of the XS Max.
