It’s not the full 3D Touch experience as someone pointed out. It’s just notifications. There is no peak and pop on web link and pictures or app shortcuts.
I know. I was just pointing out the haptic reply function coming to XR since the poster uses it often with 3D Touch

Couldn’t justify the 7+ to 8+ last year and two years owning of a 7+ I’ve never used 3D Touch, so I do t miss it on my XR.

Then again come to think of it I may have used it a few times accidentally when trying to delete apps, so ...good riddance!

I don't understand why they don't give us the choice to use the gestures on the 8+. It's such an easier and intuitive way to navigate the phone.
I’m curious why the gestures aren’t praised more when compared to the home button. After even trying the Xr at the store, let alone owning one, it was so much more effortless to do a quick swipe up than press down on a home button. Same with app switching, swiping along the bottom is so much easier than double clicking the home (also easier than swiping in from the left). I don’t have a huge preference between Touch ID and Face ID, but even if I preferred Touch ID more, I would give it up to use the gestures.

Gesture controls are so fluid and controlled, it’s seamless to use. The haptic home button is still ‘Quick’, but not nearly as intuitive and require less effort by swiping versus double clicking. The only gripe I have is invoking reachability isn’t as consistent as compared to double clicking the home button the previous iPhone models, sometimes swiping down at the bottom of the display doesn’t always invoke reachability as it should with my Max, but works in most ocassions.

Outside of some OLED displays, I've never had eye strain with a phone or tablet screen but I've noticed that every single time I use the 8+ even for a little amount of time, my eyes feel tired and start to water. Not sure what's going on. XR doesn't do that to me. It's weird because it's pretty much immediately when I begin to use the 8+, it happens. Tried True Tone on and off and night mode on and off and nothing stops it from happening.

it's tears man because you abandoned your great 8+ for a XR...

That's really strange that you say that, because I have the exact same issue in reverse. I can use my 8+ completely fine, but the XR makes my eyes really tired and watery. I wonder why certain people are affected by certain screens like that, it's weird.

I think I discovered why this 8+ was a refurbished unit. It appears that there's a large smudge on the underside of the screen/glass. Is that even possible? Whatever it is can't be cleaned off. Once you see it though, it can't be unseen.

The fingerprint could have been caused during the manufacturing process. I had a new phone in the past that had prints On it from the Factory. Either way, you shouldn’t have to see a fingerprint on a refurbished or new phone.

Should i go for xr? Coming from 8 plus,

As I wrote in another thread . . .

If you like the 8 Plus, there's little reason to go to the XR unless you want a smaller overall size device and smaller top and bottom bezels, not to mention the new gestures and FaceID. For some, that's enough reason to change. For others, they love their 8 Plus.

I upgraded from a 6s to the XR, but if I had an 8 Plus, I wouldn't have. For me it would not be worth the difference in what a used 8 Plus would sell for and what a new XR would cost. I really like the XR, but I chose it because of its value to me over the XS and XS Max. If I already had an 8 Plus, it would be more valuable to me to keep the 8 Plus for a couple more years. YMMV.

Do you dislike your 8 Plus? If not, I'd say no. You do give up some stuff but gain others. Many of my apps that run full screen on the 8 only use part of the screen on the XR. Videos also are smaller on the XR despite the bigger screen due to the different aspect ratio (XR's screen is taller and skinnier). If you like web browsing in portrait mode, it feels more spacious on the 8+ than on the XR. 8 Plus also has a higher PPI, which isn't a huge deal but side-by-side it is definitely noticeable. The XR is no slouch though. I ended up going with the XR because I prefer the all body screen and the gesture system that for some reason they left off of the 8+. Face ID is also much much better and more convenient to me than touch ID. If I had an 8+ though ahead of time, I wouldn't have upgraded this year at all.

It looks as though the 8 Plus aspect ratio is going to be a thing of the past. Is Apple's reason simply to make a narrower phone. Like you, I have the XR, but I prefer the Plus aspect ratio.

Well, I chose 8 plus as screen width is king. I also prefer 8 plus in general as well as Touch ID and gave my girlfriend an Xs Max... the 8 plus is lighter.

Aren't other phones (Android) moving towards longer skinnier phones too?

Some, such as Samsung's, are even taller and skinnier. I haven't paid much attention to many of the Androids, but had it not been for the XR, I would have done some serious investigating and may have finally broken up my Apple ecosystem of devices. I have no intention of paying $1K U.S. for a phone anytime soon.

Just noticed something with the XR. In landscape, in Safari, browser tabs are the same as the iPad. Very cool. The more I use this big f'er, the more I like it. Holster carry is fine, but in the pocket will take a lot to get used to.

Also regarding the cellular connectivity of the XR.......I got in an area with only 1 bar of LTE and was still pulling 40+ Mb per second and almost 10Mb upload. Cellular, wifi, connectivity in general is excellent. earpiece is nice as and loud as is the speaker. Only complaint is the size. It's a phablet to me but two people have showed me their android phones and it's small compared to that sheet.

xs max display is not narrower than 8 plus.

Speaking of the iPhone 8, just received my new 8 Plus ‘Work phone’, and this thing is sharp with the space gray. Nothing to dislike here and the bezels are a _non-issue_.
