It’s not the full 3D Touch experience as someone pointed out. It’s just notifications. There is no peak and pop on web link and pictures or app shortcuts. And that’s coming in 12.1.1 as you may already know

I know. I was just pointing out the haptic reply function coming to XR since the poster uses it often with 3D TouchIt’s not the full 3D Touch experience as someone pointed out. It’s just notifications. There is no peak and pop on web link and pictures or app shortcuts.
Yeah I was gonna say, I've been using it for a few days and the battery life appears to be on par with the XR.The 8 plus has a great battery life though.
I’m curious why the gestures aren’t praised more when compared to the home button. After even trying the Xr at the store, let alone owning one, it was so much more effortless to do a quick swipe up than press down on a home button. Same with app switching, swiping along the bottom is so much easier than double clicking the home (also easier than swiping in from the left). I don’t have a huge preference between Touch ID and Face ID, but even if I preferred Touch ID more, I would give it up to use the gestures.I don't understand why they don't give us the choice to use the gestures on the 8+. It's such an easier and intuitive way to navigate the phone.

They could just buy a 300 dollar iPad.Because that’s how they get some people to buy a new $750-$1,200 phone.

Outside of some OLED displays, I've never had eye strain with a phone or tablet screen but I've noticed that every single time I use the 8+ even for a little amount of time, my eyes feel tired and start to water. Not sure what's going on. XR doesn't do that to me. It's weird because it's pretty much immediately when I begin to use the 8+, it happens. Tried True Tone on and off and night mode on and off and nothing stops it from happening.
That's really strange that you say that, because I have the exact same issue in reverse. I can use my 8+ completely fine, but the XR makes my eyes really tired and watery. I wonder why certain people are affected by certain screens like that, it's weird.Outside of some OLED displays, I've never had eye strain with a phone or tablet screen but I've noticed that every single time I use the 8+ even for a little amount of time, my eyes feel tired and start to water. I think I discovered why this 8+ was a refurbished unit. It appears that there's a large smudge on the underside of the screen/glass. Is that even possible? Whatever it is can't be cleaned off. Once you see it though, it can't be unseen.
Should i go for xr? Coming from 8 plus,
Do you dislike your 8 Plus? If not, I'd say no. You do give up some stuff but gain others. Many of my apps that run full screen on the 8 only use part of the screen on the XR. Videos also are smaller on the XR despite the bigger screen due to the different aspect ratio (XR's screen is taller and skinnier). If you like web browsing in portrait mode, it feels more spacious on the 8+ than on the XR. 8 Plus also has a higher PPI, which isn't a huge deal but side-by-side it is definitely noticeable. The XR is no slouch though. I ended up going with the XR because I prefer the all body screen and the gesture system that for some reason they left off of the 8+. Face ID is also much much better and more convenient to me than touch ID. If I had an 8+ though ahead of time, I wouldn't have upgraded this year at all.Should i go for xr? Coming from 8 plus,

Aren't other phones (Android) moving towards longer skinnier phones too?It looks as though the 8 Plus aspect ratio is going to be a thing of the past. Is Apple's reason simply to make a narrower phone. Like you, I have the XR, but I prefer the Plus aspect ratio.

Well, I chose 8 plus as screen width is king. I also prefer 8 plus in general as well as Touch ID and gave my girlfriend an Xs Max... the 8 plus is lighter.
xs max display is not narrower than 8 plus.
