So the camera on an 8 and XR are basically the same except XR has portrait?

It is less comfortable in the hand, but much easier to see text, compared to the X.

First and foremost is a phone. Sadly mine is a $1200.00 paper weight.

funny enough the Phone app is probably my least used app on mine lol.... I rarely make or receive phone calls. Just the annoying robo telemarketing calls that get blocked and a few calls from older family members.... but even my parents and in-laws are versed in messaging so thats our main means of communication since I see them frequently....... I use my phone for just about everything else in my life though except for phone calls, go figure.

Sorry to hear. My max is a fully functioning phone(and there is some emphasis on using the phone) I’m very happy with it. Call quality is good, don’t experience call failures except in extreme situations. Internet speed is decent enough. Love the camera...

The size is great. I’ve been having a few issues with mine over the last few weeks though. The main issue is that it doesn’t go to voicemail if I don’t answer straight away. Voicemail is set up but for some reason it doesn’t go to voicemail. The other issue is that it keeps dropping calls over the last few days. Also over the last few days if I’ve been on the phone and I get another calls it’s been automatically disconnecting the first caller and answering the second caller. Sometimes allowing the call to continue or other times just disconnecting the second caller too.

SIM card going bad? Maybe perform a clean reinstall of iOS and grab the carrier update afterwards.

People who got the XS Max, do you still like it? Is it too big?
I got it when it first released but I didn’t dig it like I thought. I’m a big guy (6’6” 250) so big phones aren’t a size issue with me really, it just wasn't for me so I sold it and got the XS. I discovered I prefer the non plus/max iPhones.

Not at all. I've been using big phones for a while now. I have used 6+, 6S+, 7+, XS Max and Note 9. Never had a problem and big screens meant I could do a lot of things on my phone that I couldn't do previously.

I love big phones. My first was the original note.

I personally got used to the huge size quickly. For those who say you can use it with one hand - yes you can, and I also do.

Only major issue I had was it started not having signal 2-3 months after I got it, so they replaced it.

Portrait mode is the 6hit.

I haven’t noticed any issues. I love the size after using the X. I’ve always liked the plus size phones and it’s nice to be back using one.

No size is fine very quickly adapted from my X to it, water resistance though isn’t as good as they claim, dropped mine in a toddlers pool ( foot of water at the most) and it died, so ignore the marketing and don’t assume it’ll be fine if using near water.

If you get it get ready for this

Hmmm... not many people want to zoom in that much for larger text. But, on the other hand, this is an advantage of a plus sized phone. Still same amount of contents displayed even after larger text (to an extent).

Also the XS Max has had screen->body spacing issues (there are threads on it).
This is mainly because how Apple installs stainless steel frame on iPhone XS series. For me, I had one iPhone that has sensible rough edges at the bottom. After some bumps, I decided to ask for a replacement and got one without sensible rough edges and could not be happier with it.
With that being said, I can already see dust stuck into the gap between frame and glass front panel.

That’s so crazy cause my XS got left in my pants pocket and put through a wash with detergent and hot water and it still works like a champ! I guess it’s luck of the draw.

Pretty much, my iPhone 7 survived a fall down a water slide and the 10 minutes it took me to find it, my XS Max fails to survive 5 seconds in a foot of water, frustrating but that’s life
