I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one annoyed with the yellow tint of their iPhone 12 Pro that they got last Friday 😟

I used the online chat to speak to an Apple Support agent earlier today and they suggested to try 'restoring' the phone using this guide:

... which I'm pretty sure will make no difference at all.

So from the sounds of other posters here, all I need to do is go to an Apple Store within 14 days of delivery and ask for it to be exchanged?

I've had an iPhone 3G, 5, 6S, X and now the 12 and none of the others had any colour issues with the screen. I've also had an iPad 3, 4 and Pro and they've all been fine too ... but this iPhone 12 Pro is horrid! Every time I look at it the colours look far too warm / greeny, and no amount of fiddling with True Tone (which generally makes it even worse), Night Shift, or the 'Color Filter' option in Accessibility makes it comparable to my X which had a beautiful screen – and something I would have at least expected to be matched by the 12 given it's a newer phone with, presumably, newer screen technology.

I want to love this phone and everything else about it is amazing ... but the screen is just not acceptable!

Thanks for your help!

David

I will wait a couple of months before I try again. I've been skipping iPhones every year because of this issue. :(

Brought the phone to the store and told them I’d like to return it and get another. It was pretty simple and they didn’t give me any trouble.
Did you have to do an actual return or did they exchange it for a new phone? The apple website says they can do exchanges if the item is in stock.

Guys there’s a pretty simple fix for this that has been the same every year. I assume Apple use warmer screens as it causes less stress to eyes (don’t know if this is true so don’t @ me lol).

How to fix this to your desired setting:

1) Turn off True Tone (assuming everyone already knows this step).

2) Settings > accessibility > display & text size > colour tint. Click the slider to turn filters on and select ”colour tint”.

Move the intensity to the lowest setting and move the hue up to around 75% (or whatever level for personal preference).

Screenshot of my settings added.

Hopefully this helps let me know of any questions/issues.

This isn't a fix. Stop posting it.

I've an express replacement coming for my raised black level issue. My display is also yellow so I will see if it's different and take some side by sides.

I find it interesting that these threads are always so popular and yet Macrumors never run a piece on the main page. They will run a piece on much less significant reported issues with less interest.

Variance in calibrated displays and display white points being entirely wrong on a pro device is news.

I'm here for moral support :)

must be especially stressful doing swaps during launch time since they're not exactly readily available with limited supply and demand through the roof right now

saw some thread of someone with a scratched up 12 pro from Xfinity, and said they'll be lucky to get one by Thanksgiving, with still no guarantees of not getting another unit without issues

Express replacement is king, if you can stomach the credit card hold at full price and you've got apple care+. Apple will courier you a replacement phone next day and give you 10 days to compare both devices side by side before returning. They have a separate stock system for apple care+ customers so plenty in stock.

Even still for these phones, already?

I thought supplies were universally constrained retail + express replacements

But your description I understand to generally be true

I actually spoke to support about this the other day but the wanted to charge me £29 to do it! Recommended a do an exchange via sales. I bought off Apple.com and phone was a day old at this point.

This is interesting. I wonder if applecare+ phones are also "Tier 1" phones since it's their care channel. Meaning the plebs are stuck with the lottery, but if you go direct through Applecare, you get access to known good stock.

I would not place any faith in it personally being more properly vetted.

AppleCare probably doesnt see any fault with super warm screens

I'm guessing if I didn't buy Applecare+ when I bought the phone ... and I buy it now and tomorrow book an appointment at a Genius Bar to get a replacement it'll look a bit fishy? 🤔

My nearest Apple Store is showing 1 in stock of my model at the moment ... but who knows if it's another Apple Lemon!!

The perfect screen phones do in fact exist. It's been proven in this thread. The warm display phones will all be gone by this weekend, just like my OP states.
I worked at Apple for 4 1/2 years - 2 of those years I spent as a Visual Specialist and the only time iPhone displays were replaced were when they were stolen, physically damaged or were beyond acceptable visual standards (excessive wear and tear due to be handled by hundreds of customers a day). Please stop spreading this trash, lol. There is no conspiracy that retail employees replace yellow displays a few days after launch, give me a break.

its more likely the units are cherry picked that are sent to stores to be used as display devices

I don't even believe that to be the case anymore though as I've seen some pretty wild variation between units when I was obsessively comparing tons of XR screens a couple years ago

They aren't. They're given guidelines as to how many of each color to put on a table, but display models are regular phones that are imaged and provisioned at a store level.

Really?

they just pull them out of regular inventory shipments at random and then image them?

It's not a separate shipment that's already been allocated as display units?

interesting

Yep, they have plenty of stock for next day delivery. Always do, even from launch. According to the chap I was speaking to anyway. I’ll confirm once I get shipping info.

No such thing. Yellow displays everywhere. I’m a veteran, alas.

I could deal with the warmness, but I’m pretty sure I have a pink tint on the right side of my screen as well.

I’m guessing these are LG OLEDs? I only say that because this is the first time a screen has disappointed me since the Pixel 2 XL. 🤔

right?? conspiracies and lotteries aside I truly don't know why people think retail works this way at all lol, or that retail employees, yes even apple ones, are sitting around obsessing over the displays. They made sure the phones were working, hooked them up, and carried on with their undoubtedly extremely busy shift.

Follow these instructions and issue solved. Works for oled screens.
Bro did you even read the thread? This is not a fix, it's a temporary band-aid. Using color filters ruins color accuracy and reduces the screen brightness.

Funny you say that because it did for me...
It actually didnt work for you. Yeah. This puts another color layer between you and the content. So it may look kinda correct for some colors, but not for others. It will end up looking artificial at certain times, like when you first wake up in the morning. Overall, not a solution.

Oh, also this has been suggested as a solution since like the iphone 7. So we know what we are talking about when we say: no it's not a true solution.
