I really hope it can be fixed just with the iOS 14.2 update!
Maybe someone else can confirm it? I’m a little bit scared of using a beta on a daily driver, but there are for sure people out there who are not as afraid as I am :)

The only reason I updated to the beta was the build number is an A so essentially ready for prime time.

Is it really that yellow? My 12 Pro seems to have more aggressive True Tone than my 2020 13" Macbok Pro

Well, let’s see the 14.2 iPhone 12s compared to other iPhone Pros (or just by themselves). Please, I’m ready to pull the trigger but I’m seeing too many yellow screens.

How did you return it? Did you cancel your order and buy a new one or did they replace it within warranty? Just curious what I should do with mine.

And did you take photos of the screens? Would be interesting to compare.
Brought the phone to the store and told them I’d like to return it and get another. It was pretty simple and they didn’t give me any trouble.

Is anyone on the 14.2 beta? I Just updated to it and could swear my yellow tint seems to be resolved and truetone is not near as harsh a change as it was before.
...
It could well be colour calibration in the OS that was resolved in 14.2?

In my photos, both phones were on the latest beta. I noticed the 12 Pro wasn't crisp white as soon as I saw the Apple logo turning it on straight out of the box.

Yeah truetone was the issue for me I think it was way too aggressive which isn’t the case on this 14.2 beta.

My night shift has just come on for the night and doesn’t even look as yellow as it did earlier before I updated to the beta, with truetone in also.

I compared my display to about 10 different units and 2 employee units at the Store and they were all warmer than my X. They were all similar in terms of temperature. It seems the 12 displays are intended to be warmer than earlier iPhones and a comparatively warmer display is not a defect. But I’m not sure I necessarily prefer it...

I wasn't wanting to believe my new 12 pro had the issue, but as soon as I compared it to an iPhone SE and XR I have (100% brightness, True Tone off), I feel like there is an issue. The 12 pro should be achieving greater brightness than those two phones, correct? Guess I'll be going to the Apple Store in the morning...

EDIT I just realized I had night shift on the 12 pro and not the other....here is a new comparison with all 3 w/ night shift off. What do you all think?

The 12 looks brighter but its obvious that it has a different white balance that the two phones to the left.

It looks pink on the picture and the two other phones look green but that’s just due to the camera you are taking it with not finding a good white balance for the picture.

If the screens were all the same they would all show as either pink or as green.

The best AMOLED display I’ve ever seen so far was my Xs Max. I use a specific HDR video in two instances where these AMOLED’s struggle and was pretty disappointed in my new 12 Pro. My wife’s Xs was pretty similar to the 12 Pro in both scenes but still better than this.

Any thoughts?

Mine is the exact same when compared to my XS Max... I think I'm going to return the 12 Pro and see if the 12 Pro Max is better. I've been having a hard time re-learning no 3D touch anyways.

It would be interesting to know if those of you with warm displays are also experiencing the raised blacks issue. Try a full black background at low brightness in a completely dark room and you might see that the pixels remain lit.

This is a fault as OLED panels should not emit any light on black. It has implications for contrast and battery life.

I have this issue and did not have it on my 11 Pro.

It's particularly bad in the alarm clock selection screen where light elements meet dark and what should be black is grey.

Guys there’s a pretty simple fix for this that has been the same every year. I assume Apple use warmer screens as it causes less stress to eyes (don’t know if this is true so don’t @ me lol).

How to fix this to your desired setting:

1) Turn off True Tone (assuming everyone already knows this step).

2) Settings > accessibility > display & text size > colour tint. Click the slider to turn filters on and select ”colour tint”.

Move the intensity to the lowest setting and move the hue up to around 75% (or whatever level for personal preference).

Screenshot of my settings added.

Hopefully this helps let me know of any questions/issues.

Not experiencing the raised blacks issue but it seems there is some kind of greenish tint on dark grays when at low brightness levels. When at higher ones it definitely is more a yellowish tint than a greenish one.

Color tint doesn't fix the problem though... it makes the display less saturated, lose constrast, and no longer as color accurate as before. What we would really need is a color temperature slider.

I would definitely recommend the 14.2 public beta 4. Seen zero bugs so far it’s an A build and it deffo changed the colour profile of my screen.

I assume that the 12 pro is the one on the right. If so, I think that display looks the best. I don’t see a yellow tint there at all, looks like a perfect true white. Definitely different than the ones to the left which look like they have a blue tint.

Mine in comparison looks yellow, and between a yellow and blue tint I prefer blue, but honestly would prefer a real white as yours.

Apple Support hotline doesn’t know anything about a generic problem - as I already thought. Either it’s a small problem or they don’t want to talk about it.

Did you do a clean install / reset or just an update? Might give it a try later...
But first I’m gonna take some pictures for a before/after comparison.

Are we certain that it 100% is a defect with our screens or is it just the new color profile Apple chose tricking our eyes?

I wouldn’t say we‘re certain that it’s a defect. I tested it myself against a iPhone 12 and 12 Pro at a local market and also a 12 Pro of a friend of mine. All three were nearly identical warm. Another user also said he compared it to 10 other iPhone 12 and they were all as warm as his. This supports the „it’s a new color profile“ idea.
But then again I’m asking myself: why does the iPad Pro (2020) and Apple Watch (5. Gen) have a colder display?

This dosent work.

Its not possible to set the intensity of the color filter to a low enough value.

The filter also reduces the brightness of the screen slightly. Using this feature only replaces one wrong tint with another wrong tint

I agree. It will be interesting to see if OP is right in his claims that the issue will disappear as the production gets going.

I also tested my unit in the store on Saturday and the display units were also very yellow, but that might change over the coming weeks.

As you say, the iPad Pro is colder. That screen simply feels perfect and I’m 100% comfortable editing pictures on it.

There is no real reason for the iPhone pro to be warmer. It’s a pro device, meant for editing picture and videos. The color of the screen SHOULD be accurate.

As some of the posters in thread say that they have recieved perfect units I’m inclined to believe that OPs theory has something to it.

Im gonna return my pro and wait a couple of weeks before I buy a new phone.

I love it. It’s a great phone in all respects but I want the screen to be perfect for 1400$ in my currency, planning on keeping it for some years and why settle for less than what is advertised...

since I wasn’t in the beta it was a full download of 4gb or something can’t remember exactly. So pretty much a full fresh reinstall.
