I just ordered another Mini. The yellow tint is just driving me nuts. I like warm displays and generally keep TrueTone on, but with it off it looks like the glass is tinted permanently yellow.

Chat with Apple support even agreed with me when I sent him side by side photos of my IPhone 8.

This plus the touchscreen issue really doesn’t give the newest phone a good impression...

For what it’s worth, I returned the 12 PM after 1 day of use. I tried to warm up to it (pun intended), but the screen was just too yellow for a nearly $1300 device, which already doesn’t include a charger!

Also, it was getting hot on the top part of the phone when playing videos. My 2 year old XS Max never got hot under these conditions. It wasn’t indexing because it only occurred during video playback.

I’ll wait until their panels are better. The phone is great, but the screen is one of the most important interactive things in these devices.

Think about it, would you want to be served coach meals if you paid for first class? We pay premium for the quality.

I hope Apple holds the panel provider accountable or at least acknowledge that the new panels will be warmer.

Just my opinion. Good luck to all.
I’m in the same shoes. I cannot stay the screen. My ip 12PM has yellow screen and way too warm. I cannot use it after my perfect ip 11PM. Pretty sure , going to return it to Apple. Apple could make something better for the money they want from us.

There is definitely a yellow tint with the new models. Its unfortunate for sure. For me its not really a deal breaker as I only ever use dark mode and don't really notice it unless I'm comparing to the 11 Pro Max.

I’ve just returned my 12PM afeter 1 day because of the yelloish screen.

compared to my 11PM it’s a shame.

My wife’s 12P is definitely better.

I’ll try a couple of lottery rounds hoping to find a keeper....

I’m so disappointed.

I experienced the same issue with an iPhone 12 Pro. Straightaway I thought the screen looked too yellow. Having True Tone on just made the problem worse it looked horrible. So disappointing as I've always been very happy with any Apple device I've purchased and those screens all look great.

I spent some time with Apple Support troubleshooting but the issue persisted. The support rep. agreed that there appeared to be an issue with the screen itself so I've returned it and waiting on a replacement to be shipped.

Will post again and share a photo of the replacement once I've received it. Fingers crossed it's better but not holding out much hope based on other peoples experiences on this forum.

Here's a photo of the iPhone 12 (left) next to my old iPhone X (right). True Tone and night shift disabled in both cases.

I went to a store earlier today and I compared my 12 Pro Max to the one on display there: the difference was really obvious. So there are some good units out there.

I took my 12PM back after one day, could not put up with the yellow, I had to wait 90 minutes for a refund as the Apple server was down in the states for maintenance lol, not great when most of the shops are shut at the moment.

never compare the purchased model with the display unit. Those units have a different kind of calibration, and sure enough they looks all identical.

Fair enough, but the 12 PM on display was almost identical to the 11 Pro max that I still own.

I agree with your first point, but I think you’re misunderstanding what people are expecting here. Most people actually dislike the heavy-blue white/color temperature just as much as yellow. What we want is balanced white, aka 6500K as defined by the D65 calibration standard. The panels we’ve been receiving fall well below that mark.

It indeed seems to be an industry-wide issue right now. I’m assuming it’s the outcome of some new cheaper production methods that results in a higher yield of usable panels with the caveat that the majority of them lean warmer.

I hope you’re actually using a calibration device when making your claims, since all the reviews you be seen of people using calibration devices say they are bang on 6500K, with HDTV Test saying in some cases it was better than a 30 thousand dollar monitor.

Thought my display was a bit warmer than it should be so thought i'd come here and see if anyone else had same problem, didn't realise this was a thing as had an 8 Plus since 2017.

Heres my 12 PM on the left and 8 Plus on the right;

Definitely a lot warmer and now i cant unsee it, do Apple do replacements for free? If so whats the chances i'll actually get a unit that works properly this time?

yes, if my actual 12PM were the same as my 11PM i would be very happy. I asked for a Brand new swap, let's hope the next one will be better.

Anyway, even if, in the MOST cases the new 12 line have warmer displays, i agree there there are pretty good screen out there.

As is said, my wife's 12P is good enough, worst than my iiPM but better than my 12PM.

I’ve followed this thread closely and can confirm that some good panels do exist, at least on the 12 Pro Max. I returned the purple/greenish 12 Pro I had earlier in this thread and waited for the 12PM in hopes they were manufactured by Samsung.

My panel is shifted a tiny bit more warm than my 11 Pro Max, but warm enough that it makes the white point look good (my 11 PM was too blue). I have a graphite 12PM and brother has a PB 12PM, my screen looks better than his (but I didn’t tell him).

The screen on my iPhone mini is now less warmer in a day of my use.
Went to the store for comparison side by side the difference on the display unit of mini is negligible!
12 looks to be warmer than mini though!

Anybody thinks that Apple will release an official statement on this?

Why is there no True Tone toggle option on the X in your picture?

It’s another long story. I had the screen replaced earlier in the year after it cracked, by an Apple certified repair store, and since then the toggle was disabled. Wasn’t able to resolve it with Apple support but I wasn’t that bothered as I prefer it off and was planning to upgrade anyway.

This is my 11 vs 12 mini with TT and NS off. Do you guys think the mini panel is faulty or just what to expect from D65 OLED panels?
I don't want to get confused by the coldnes of an LCD display that at first sight can be shocking to the sight.

Thanks

Ah gotcha. I’ve never had a display replaced. Didn’t realize it could go away

Your mini screen seems to be even (which is good) but with a different colour temperature than the iPhone 11 lcd screen: it doesn’t mean faulty. If you would add an iPhone X, XS and 11 Pro into this comparison I am sure they would have all different look different.

If you don’t compare and just use the iPhone 12 mini alone, do you feel the screen faulty?

The tint option in settings fixes this completely. And doesn't "degrade or reduce brightness" or whatever people have been saying.

Nor me. It actually should still be there at least if it's a genuine Apple replacement part and performed by an authorised store. I have read of others experiencing the same issue however after a replacement.
