I don't care what anyone says, if my iPad has yellow tint like that I will keep returning it until I get a cool screen.

I'm paying $700+ for one. It's not irrational of me to find such a stark (and in my opinion, terribly ugly) change from my original one unacceptable. Especially if it isn't universal.

Thumbs crossed my iPad won't have the tint.

It's a white ipad with no yellow tint. You can see that the white in the icons is actually whiter than the white border. Do the white ipads have a different batch of screens?

The black iPad's get a yellow screen tint and the white iPad's get a yellow bezel tint. Pick your poison.

Same here, I can't stand the warmer tint.

On my NEC monitor, I can use its built-in menu to easily change the color temperature to my preference. It's a shame this is not an option on tablet displays.

This sort of thing doesn't bother me, but if it bother you, my new iPad has a pretty noticeable yellow tint. I noticed it as soon as I fired up Safari, and when I placed it next to my iPad 2 it became very obvious. But it also made me think the color replication on my iPad 2 might not be so spot on either....

No worries here, I'm happy with it.

Attached is a pic.
I actually prefer the warmer tint.
my 4S has a nice warm tint to it, whilst my iPad 2 has a cooler. The warmer one looks more natural to my eyes. YMMV.

I'm for a bluer tint too. Had a white 4S and it was a murky piss yellow and didn't compare to the clarity of my blue tinted 4 (no S).

Yeah good idea. Someone needs to write an app to adjust the temp warmness so we can all be happy. Yellow and blue - you choose!

All new iPads will be warmer, not yellow, as they are meant for photographers. They need lower Kelvin!

If it's anything like the iPhone, the screens just have a different colour temperature. Look here: a guy actually measured the colour temperature of his iPhone 4 ("blue") and 4S ("yellow") using a spectrophotometer. The 4S screen is indeed a lower colour temperature (warmer, more "yellow") than the 4 but it's closer to the 6500K standard (used by the sRGB colour profile etc. as he explains in his post) than the 4 is. That means that the "yellow" screen is actually more accurate for colour reproduction (based on commonly-used standards) than the blue one: it is not faulty.

Unless someone does the same with an iPad and shows that the colour temperature is miles away from d65, I'd say everyone should stop panicking...

Nice find, I dont mind it at all and that is spot on plus colors pop more with a warmer screen. If there is no bad bleeding like last years I'll be on my way tomorrow to pick one up, all signs are the "backlight bleed" problems are addressed this time around.

If this supposed yellow tint is the only problem people can find on this years model I'll take it.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. So it's a matter of preference and what task you're doing - like viewing pics.

Just saw this browsing around the forums. Looks like there is already an app to select the color temp. Bad thing is you need to jailbreak it so won't work until then but there is hope for the future :)

Happens in all freshly made models. It should dissipate once the adhesive cures.
Mine's just fine.

Perhaps it's a quality control issue. The first iPad 2 I got never did change, stayed yellow. Apple replaced it with a good one.

This iPad (3) I just bought at Walmart has a perfectly neutral display. It's perfect.

This would make me return my iPad. I strongly prefer the blueish tint.

Photos have white balances assigned, which can make it a bit difficult to determine here. If it actually looks yellow to you, that could be an issue.

The old one goes just a bit magenta in the neutral tones. It's subjective, and given display technology, I never expect these things to be 100% neutral. It's not just the hardware, but the way they do the settings. Then of course these things shift in color as they warm up, and it takes quite a long time for an IPS display to fully stabilize. With larger displays you typically run them at least 45 minutes before attempting to calibrate. When they're new they stabilize a bit faster. If they're a few years old it might take an hour. Then of course all hardware drifts over time. They have a lot to consider in the design. I don't think they'd just release it anyway after testing if it was expected to be perceived as significantly yellow.

I'm not sure if this is a joke. I think it is. Photographers calibrate displays to D65 or display native if it's close, just like everyone else given the typical RGB workflow. Most of them do not really work in cmyk. This is device dependent. You have to know the specs you're preparing for, and much of the time that might vary over the total usage of the image. Preparing for newsprint is completely different than preparing for a large printout that will hang in a store, and you need to ensure it retains as much detail as possible rather than ending up with clipped channels trying to preserve colors that can't be reproduced in the destination space. Anyway I probably went into too much detail there.

Okay, I'd like to get this said while we're just a few posts in:

The yellow tint goes away when the digitizer adhesive cures.

If you still have a yellow-ish screen in a week or two, go swap it out at :apple:.

Basically this. When I first got my iMac the screen had a yellow tint, it annoyed me greatly. But it eventually went away, and now the screen is perfect :)

So if you get an iPad with a yellow tint give it a while, it should fade away.

My iPad 2 is white blue which I prefer, I hope for a non yellow tint will post pics when I get it, if not going to get a MacBook air and keep my iPad 2

PEOPLE..... the OP replied about 7 posts in and said it was a joke! The picture isn't real.

My iPad has a much bluer tint to it than what it should have. After a while I'll probably get used to it, but it looks really odd to me right now. Too bad we can't calibrate these displays.

NO, he said it wasn't really his iPad, the picture IS real just off a website, and someone else posted a picture of their own iPad that backs it up, Maybe you need to learn to read?

Yup! My iPhone 4S bought in January was piss yellow, the whole screen, just like that and then over several days to a week it went away and looks great now. Even re-compared with my wifes iPhone 4 and confirmed it went away.

I hope so. I know if mine is yellowish when I get it later today that I will be disappointed, but I trust the statements here that it lessens as time goes by. I hope it lessens enough though.

My iPad 1 had a yellow screen. I noticed it right away even though I had nothing to compare it to. It doesn't go away as some screens are just warmer than others. My iPad 2 has the cool bluish screen from day one, as was my iPhone 4. Then I bought a 4S with the yellow screen. I've actually grown to prefer the slight warmer color rendition, makes viewing photos more natural, I even turned my TV's and monitors to a slightly warmer color temperature.

BUT on my iPad I prefer the cool white. The menus just look nasty with the yellow tint. My white new iPad is on the Fedex truck now. My fingers crossed it will have the cool white screen. If your screen is entirely and evenly yellow, it's the way it will always be.
