As others have mentioned, my listings are 180 degrees off. It is a great idea and I think it will be better down the road, which I look forward to.

The little compass in the corner seems to find North just fine, but points of interest in the west and east are swapped for me. I am not sure about North/South though. I am holding it in portrait as landscape doesn't seem to work very well at all and jumps all over the place.

I don't know why they made this for the 3GS only, I know where North, south, East, and West are, those of us with the older phones could just swipe to see what's around us. Hopefully they unlock it in an update, or someone figures a way to hack it through SSH and/or jailbreak. I don't feel like spending 400 bucks to to get a free app working..

It doesn't matter if you know where NEW, and S are. This function specifically needs the 3GS's compass in order to work. If they could have made it to work on the older iPhones, they would have. Without the compass, the floating icons wouldn't match up with what's on the screen. It would be pretty pointless. The "Nearby" button is basically the Monocle feature without the video and floating icons.

Your complaint isn't really fair. In a way, you're saying that it's not fair that Apple has dared to add improvements and new capabilities to the newest iPhone. Should the devs not take advantage of these new features?

Still does not work. I read all the post but my question is does it only work on the 3gs phone and not the 3G?

Yes, it only works on the 3GS.

And you know this how? I have other apps that use the 3GS compass that work fine on my 3G except I have to swipe to change direction.

They could use the GPS and cell tower triangulation to get a fix, might only be able to while moving, like many other apps do.

I NEVER said that, why are you putting words in my mouth? I'm 110% in favor of devs adding new things even if they aren't backwards compatible, I was just hoping for something as simple as this they could allow those of us with the older phones to use the feature, even if it isn't as accurate.

As with camera megapixels, the importance of car-speed has been greatly overemphasized! It's hardly the most important thing, even in a sports car.
lol

180 degrees?

Extremely cool to play with and show your friends but, as many other posters have said, it's 180º off for me. Seems like it's just some sort of a coding fix. The only other problem I see is if something is too far away you can't read the tag at all. Thanks Yelp for giving us something to further convince our Blackberry toting friends that their phone is a piece of crap. Keep up the good work!

What the heck is yelp? some British app?

Hehe, it is a social network application that is supposed to replace the Yellow Pages. People, mostly young adults, post yelps, or reviews, of local businesses. Not a bad idea in theory but still has plenty of kinks in it in practice.
