Don't really get the debate going around here.

Why the hell would you care if another iPhone user here uses a protector / case or not and worry about them getting scratches?

The debate is about wether screen protectors are a necessity to prevent undesirable, noticeable scratches under normal usage.

Screen protectors on an iPhone are (mostly) a scam. It's pretty offing hard to scratch that screen. If people are getting scratches from every day use... they are not taking care of their phone. I've taken KEYS to my screen on several occasions to prove how durable it is... NEVER a scratch.

And to the OP... you make NO sense.

Go into fluorescent light. Use extreme angles. I bet I could find a scratch on your phone.

do you also keep plastic wrap on your couch?

i really dont understand how can people put all those cases and screen protectors on such a beautiful device

to keep it beautiful?

do you also keep your remote in plastic wrap? i bet you do

this world suffers from an epidemic lack of taste in every way...

Some people are stuck on semantics here. The only thing that any of you have left to do in life that is actually necessary is to die. Everything outside of that is purely optional. There, I played the semantics game and sounded like a tool. I don't think the OP was nearly as literal as all of you are making it seem. Sometimes I wonder why I even consider myself a part of this community where the average age (maturity-wise) seems to be wavering around thirteen.

IMO, the scratches from not dropping your phone aren't as bad as a screen protector. I hate them (screen protectors), and have tried just about everyone of them. The cheap ones from eBay to the 10 dollar ones from department stores. I've even gotten them on so that you couldn't tell they were there by looking. But even if I couldn't tell it was there by looks alone, I could tell by the feel. The phone just doesn't have the same feel with them, so I don't use them.

If you hold my phone up in very bright light (sun) you can notices an abundance of almost microscopic scratches just from general use (i.e. not dropping). I really couldn't give a ***** about them. I've never had anyone complain about them when buying my phone, and I've always gotten close to or more than what I paid for it new.

Get a GLAS.t by SGP. You will be happy as a clam.

I keep it covered so when I drop it and it slides across the ground it's not rendered useless. Although that hasn't happened yet eventually something will.

I don't particularly find the iPhone that beautiful and feel no need to show off what nearly everyone I come in contact with already owns.

I have never put a screen protector on my iPhones since the iPhone 3g. No marks, knicks or scratches anywhere on my devices.

That and I don't drop my devices. I know "**** happens" but I generally avoid those situations where **** could happen.

A dedicated pocket (usually left side) in your pants without anything else, fully naked device usually does the job a screen protector would.

iPhone 4 never had a screen protector, no scratches. It did have a protector on the back. Clear and couldn't tell it was there. Except that it took the brunt of daily scratches from sliding across tables and being put down on rough surfaces.

iPhone 4S - has a front and rear protector. Front just because I am getting a little more careless these days. I'll probably remove it soon anyhow.

Either way, the protectors are plastic and will scratch much easier than glass. Glass is pretty damn durable.

The only time a screen protector seems necessary is when you carry keys in the same pocket as your phone. Like I did that one time.

I've used one on every iPhone from the beginning except for my 4S. I've decided to not use one on this phone because in reality, I've never needed one. The only reason I ever used one was to prevent fingerprints. All of the anti fingerprint screen protectors I have used always distort the display in some way including the Crystal Support HD ones.

I used my iPhone 4 since launch without any kind of case, except the free bumper I used for a brief time. It still looked nearly flawless more than a year later when I sold it, and it had been dropped on concrete. My 4S is also totally naked and holding up just fine. These phones are not as fragile as some people make them out to be.

I have owned iPhones since the iPhone 3G. I have dropped each iPhone numerous times. I have never seen the need for screen protectors, nor have I ever used them.

It's true that if you drop the phone the wrong way, the screen will shatter, but a piece of thin peelable plastic will not stop this from happening, and it's the only way true damage can be done to the phone by dropping it in most cases. What you really want, if you care about this, is to have a bumper case which makes sure the glass never hits a surface if the phone is dropped.

Huh? Please excuse my ignorance but I don't understand.

What does belief in god have to do with belief in using or not using a screen protector?

Scenario:
I get in a car wreck. Car is totaled in a million pieces, and I walk away. I could say God was watching out for me and completely believe that. OR, it could be that I just got in a horrible car wreck and walked away to tell the tale largely due to the engineering that goes into making modern automobiles safe, and of course the fact that I drive with my seatbelt on all the time.

Did the screen protector save the OP's phone? We will never know, because we don't know what would have happened without it.

I agree the comparison is a stretch, but I think I got the gist of what he was trying tos ay.

I've gotten pretty good at applying them. I get the bathroom steamed and do it in there to keep the dust down. I can't see not having one, just a habit maybe. I love the SGP ones though.

Bit of an overkill but I admire your manic attention to detail :D

I had a screen protector for my 3GS and my 4, but decided not to go for one with the 4S. So far I am very happy I did, the clarity of the screen is so much nicer without the cover. Even with the highest quality cover, it still diminishes the quality of the screen. I paid a lot for my phone, I want to see everything I paid for.

No scratches at all and I have it in my pocket frequently.

It's funny.

I've heard so many people say;

"Dropped my phone with a screen protector on it, thank GOD! There was a huge scratch on the screen".

The reason there was a huge scratch (most likely) was because it was a SCREEN PROTECTOR. They're typically made from cheap plastic, and not made to withstand being scratched.

Apple iPhone glass is very durable. I keep mine in my pocket, without a screen protector. I've done so for a year and a half now. I've dropped my phone, dropped stuff on it. My son has thrown it. Not a scratch on the screen.

The only damage it's ever endured was a small chip on the right hand side. That was from falling at work, down 5 stairs, with my phone in my hand, and the phone dragging along a steel railing all of my 175 lbs on it while I fell down the stairs.

Other than that little chip.

Scratch free.
