Still having issues on the 10.10.2 beta.

My Ethernet-connected (2012) Mac Mini almost-always backs up fine, although I've had to reboot the Time Capsule (late 2013) once so I could retrieve an old file from Time Machine. It wouldn't connect to the TC.

My late 2013 rMBP has issues all the time. Last TM backup completed, and I almost immediately went into Time Machine to get a file I accidentally deleted, and it gave me an error saying it couldn't find the backup disk. Happens all the time. Not to mention it connects at less-than-AC speeds more often than I'd like (yes, it's only a few feet away in the same room).

I haven't owned a Time Capsule prior to Yosemite coming out, but back when I had an external, I never had any issues. I agree that it's a Yosemite issue, though it may take a TC update to fix it. Unfortunately, 10.10.2 doesn't seem to be the savior I was hoping it'd be.

Oddly enough, having Airport Utility open usually helps with connectivity issues (as mentioned).

*sigh*...

Just another Apple bug in a rather-too-often trend of Apple bugs.

It'll get solved, eventually... maybe...

I really wish this would get fixed. Having to do manual backups is a pain.

Not sure if I've found a work around to this issue but I've not had any issues in 24 hours now and the only change I made was mounting the Data share on the Time Capsule via finder.

I've had no issues with Time Machine to my Time Capsule AC since one of the later 10.10.2 betas, thankfully!

I was searching for articles relating to this, saw this article and thought I would chime in.

I have had tremendous problems with Time Machine (Tm) backing up to my Time Capsule (TC) ever since going to Yosemite. I get different errors, but the gist of them are:

com.apple.backupd: NAConnectToServerSync failed with error: 2 (No such file or directory) for url: (followed by URL for TC)

com.apple.backupd: Backup failde with error 19: The backup disk could not be resolved, or there was a problem mounting it

If I would reset the TC and reboot the computer I could get ONE backup (sometimes more). I can’t reboot the computer every time I want to backup data (which changes for me constantly). Not having backups is a serious issue to me. Data is changing constantly on my mac. If something were to happen I need to know my backups are there and available.

After months of working with so called SR Advisors at Apple with no results, I decided to go up the Apple food chain. I somehow got in touch with an executive customer relations person (above the standard customer relations and close to Tim Cook’s office). I went into detail about this issue and a slew of serious issues with AppleCare along with this issue.
Regarding this issue, he hooked me up with an escalations person. This person essentially did nothing as well. Everyone has told me that this issue is being worked on by Apple engineering but no one will give me any details (not even a hint). As a workaround he asked if I had an external to hook up directly via USB. I tried that and low and behold TM works without issues. However, now I have two sources of my backups: TC and External drive. So if I need to restore a file, which source is it?

From what I can tell this issue has been going on since Yosemite came out last fall. My case with Apple has been open since January 2015. I spoke with my Apple exec contact last week to get a status. I clearly stated I wasn’t looking for specifics (i.e. when exactly it will be fixed) but more of are they on track/making progress etc – anything would be helpful. He stated that it is Apple’s policy NOT to release any information until a product (or in this case update) is available. I told him I understood the need for secrecy for new products. However what’s the big secret for an OS update??? He simply wouldn’t budge.
Now with the announcement of the new Mac OS X El Capitan, how can I (or anyone else) be assured this issue will get any attention?

Thoughts, comments, suggestions…

I'd say you have some other issue. Are you running the latest OS X release? My Time Capsule issues were completely (and I mean completely) resolved by the official release of 10.10.2, so...

What's your hardware? (Mac model and TC model)

Imac 27" (latest model before 5K), Latest model TC, Mac OS 10.10.2

My expensive new TC is a paper weight now. I bought a product which is not doing what it was designed. I'm backing up to an external HD via USB.

I really suggest updating to 10.10.3. It'll probably solve all your issues related to TC.

Thanks.. I actually was at the Apple store today and played around with Photo's (which is primarily what 10.10.3 delivers) and think based on that I will do the update. My corp escalation contact states he doubts this will solve it. But I agree about being on the latest.

@DeputyDawg 10.10.3 seemed to solve a lot of underlying networking bugs.

Now that I'm confident with Photos and my Events (which all 40+K photos are divided into) won't go away, I will take the update - tonight if time allows or tomorrow for sure.

I'm hopeful but not optimistic this will resolve.

I don't doubt it will fix it, for the record. Yosemite and TC were very problematic on the early Yosemite releases. It's possible you have some other issue going on, but I'm hopeful 10.10.3 will address it.

Not much to do really. Just click the update, let it download - you'll have about 10-12 minutes of downtime while it reboots and installs by itself, and then you're done.

As I suspected, updating to 10.10.3 didn't help.

See screen shot for the error.

This is frustrating as all hell. To make it worse Apple is being LESS than helpful and I'm working with someone in the executive office - who as you recall refuses to give me any updates.

I'd suggest a reinstall of OS X, or a removal of the Time Machine disk and re-adding it. There's no reason in 10.10.3 that this isn't working flawlessly. Also, I suggest removing the space from your Time Capsule name. e.g. call it TimeCapsule vs Time Capsule.

Been there, done that !!!!!! The Exec technical person confirmed this is an OS issue with Yosemite.

I'm running Yosemite... with the AC Time Capsule right now, to my 2014 iMac. No issues since 10.10.2. Your issue is something other than the OS, I'd say.

Just going by what Apple told me. I have tried EVERYTHING. I have factory reset the TC, I have reinstalled Yosemite. I have sent them logs. I'm out of things to do - except change the name of the TC. Thats and easy change if you think it will help.

There are others on the net that are experiencing this.

This all started when I updated from Mavericks to Yosemite.

As a workaround I am backing up now to USB external - which defeats the whole purpose of the brand new TC I bought. Also since there are some backups on the TC and some on external - if I had to restore a file which device do I mount????

This is a HUGE Pain in the ___ But at least I feel better that i'm getting backups which for a while I wasn't getting anything.

I do feel your pain. I, and many others, suffered through nonsense like this when Yosemite first came out. However, Apple really did address the TC issues in 10.10.2...
