This is actually great for us Canadians travelling down to the US for a week or so. Free service instead of paying the $13 a day that Bell and Roger’s charge us to roam? Perfect!

The MyAT&T app isn't available in Canada, but I'm sure it would work in theory if you changed region to USA to download app.

Been on AT&T for over a decade, and their service around NYC and Long Island is terrible. Thinking about finally switching providers.

There are a bunch of Canadian plans that offer US roaming in the package now, for example I have a Public Mobile plan for $34/month that allows me to use my minutes and my 50GB of data interchangeably in either country. It's great for those of us that live close enough to the border that our phones occasionally jump between towers and avoids extra fees every time I got on vacation or visit extended family in the States.

Very expensive? When I had them a few months ago, it was $67 for their highest plan for one line.
I remember I was paying $8/mo for unlimited LTE 250MB/s with coverage in office buildings and subway, with no caps on speed or data, with unlimited tethering, 400 mins calls and 2000 SMS and that was considered as premium plan 😥
It wasn’t in US of course.

I often dream of the alternate universe where Apple acts as a front end / shell for the carriers (similar to what they do with Goldman Sachs on Apple Card).
Right, and we all saw how well that worked out for GS.

You can already buy carrier phones through Apple, directly.

Honestly Apple Card is a great user experience - GS’s consumer underwriting was just off base. Even Steve Wozniak didn’t get the max credit limit 😩
Goldman, after just a few years, doesn't even want any part of the Apple Card anymore. Not so much because of their underwriting, but because it wasn't profitable from the lack of fees.

I’ve been generally happy with T-Mobile, which offers better 5G service than its competitors near me. But there are a few dead spots in my neck of the woods and T-Mobile has issues getting service to the inside of big buildings like hospitals. I may try AT&T’s 30-day trial… just to see if it makes any difference.

Everyone qualifies for a signature discount, essentially bringing the cost of 1 line for a non-FirstNet, EMT, Nurse, Teacher, or family account to that price.

Not everyone it seems, my employer definitely doesn't. Wonder if Verizon has a similar program since my company uses them.

AT&T is very expensive, but their service is generally good in my area at least.
The thing about my area also is that AT&T has the best coverage. I compared AT&T just last week to Verizon, and AT&T is still less money for my family plan of 5 phones. With discounts of auto-draft and paperless billing, I'm only paying $160/month with taxes for the basic unlimited plan for all 5 phones that includes hotspot data. Not to mention every 3 years I get the latest iPhone for free by trading in the previous models if I lock in for another 3 years.

Can I get the same from Verizon?

I switched to AT&T back in 2007 (as part of onboarding to the first iPhone). I've stayed with them with 6 lines until now -- even though I encounter prominent deadzones, including at my mother's house, on a specific segment of my commute and in my own backyard.

I suspect Verizon won't be much better...and I don't want to spend any money to find that out.

Never again with AT&T. After I cancelled my month to month account, they kept billing me for 9 months afterwards. Every month I had to call in, get past the menu gauntlet & wait an hour to speak to an “associate” to cancel that bill. Then I had to repeat this process every month for 9 months after which they finally stopped sending me erroneous bills. I realized this was just how they do business, expecting people who don’t really track their monthly bank statements to just keep paying for service they no longer have… Never. Again. 🤬

Not Verizon directly, but Visible has a free trial. Same network and towers.
