Ugh. That doesn’t look good. May I ask what part of the country you are in? I get one to two bars from T-Mobile at home and generally rely on wifi calling when I am there. What bothers me more is when I drive to more rural areas not that far from home and lose the radio stations (and SiriusXM) that I would be streaming for several minutes at a time.
Naperville IL

Don’t worry, all three of them get hacked every few years so unless you don’t have a cell phone your info will be out there no matter what
Don’t worry? You’d have to be delusional to not worry. My info is already out there, including my social security number, from AT&T’s last hack a couple of months ago. And I haven’t been an AT&T customer for many years. So yeah, I’m pissed.

BEWARE: knowing them, there's got to be some hidden hook here... if not several. If you are going to try this, scrutinize the fine print. I near fully doubt they are generously giving away a month without a hook.

Initial wild (completely uninformed) guesses: auto-renewal for high fees, locked phone, free* only if you then take a lengthy contract, permanent forehead tattoo of their logo so you are a mobile advertiser for life, 1+ years of indentured servitude, first born, 3 vital organs of their choosing, immortal soul, etc. All of the above? Some of those are jokes... hopefully. With AT&T, you just never know. ;)

Caveat emptor!
The "hook" is well, you only get 30 days free and that's it. No commitments required, no card required to use the service.

The only "hook" I can see is that, they take your IMEI number but for a purpose to stop freeloaders reusing the trial over and over using that same phone.

I keep getting failed to retrieve esim please try again later so frustrating.

Interesting that AT&T doesn't publish the plan price equivalent to the free eSIM trial - they're spinning it as "try our network" …

Not being able to find the price of the service smells bad.

still having trouble installing esim it says. What a joke this is. This was purchased from Apple not financed or anything.

T Mobile was hacked too. I'm sure Verizon has had their issues as well.

In general this won't change until people as a whole push back on the government to have some consequences for companies when they allow this to happen.

All the replies that other companies have been hacked—do you think this makes any of us who have had data leaked feel better?!?

Not everyone it seems, my employer definitely doesn't. Wonder if Verizon has a similar program since my company uses them.
If you join AARP, you can get a signature discount. So everyone qualifies. Worth the $12 one time charge if you're under 55 years old. It'll also waive activation and upgrade fees for life, and give you 15% off accessories, on top of the $10 monthly savings.

AT&T is the last carrier I would consider for many reasons - crippling and increasing cost of grandfathered plan, destroying DirectTV, etc. However decided to try it just for kicks since T-Mobile at my home isn't great. Got nowhere - "We're having trouble downloading your eSIM".
Here's an idea for ya... Get rid of the grandfathered plan. They're typically more expensive than the newer ones.

No, but at this point in life I've been compromised so many times it's a joke. Insurance, retirement, shopping, cell phone, and so forth. All you can do is freeze your credit and check your credit reports.

But overall, companies who demand all your information to sell should be more accountable when breaches happen.

I’ll keep that in mind if I ever switch. I’m not even 40 and have AARP as an employee benefits through my job.

Agreed, but the common response here is “every company does it, get used to it” is not an appropriate answer.

AT&T does not even work at my home and basically useless oh yeah just use Wi-Fi is not the answer when the majority of day is spent working out in my shop which is a metal building. They lost me years ago when they kept jacking up their rates on a grandfathered plan and when I priced T-mobile was third the price I was done with AT&T. Surprisingly T-Mobile works fine in the metal building.

Ok fine, get off your butt, write to all the politicians you can, only vote for candidates that support strong consumer protections, and get involved in the political process.

Until something changes, it's going to be the same old story. That's the truth.

So yeah, get used to it. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution. What have you done to help fix this?

I shouldn’t have to do anything. I didn’t pay exorbitant fees to have my information leaked. By saying “get used to it” you, mam, are THE problem. But I’m sure you feel so proud of your worthless response. Goodbye.

You can't port out this temporary number, so I'm guessing no, but I could be wrong...
There is no need to port the number. You just need an account with one of the major carriers to do monthly installments on Apple Card. That way.... someone with a cheap prepaid... like Mint Mobile... can get the temp account with AT&T, Then buy the iPhone with Apple Card on the 24 months interest free. When it asks for your account with AT&T. give them that number... they sell you the iPhone and you just activate it on your Mint Mobile account and let the AT&T Free trial expire.

New cars are scraping all your phone info and personal info with their 4G connections, and it's in their terms of service. There are no laws to stop it.

Meta scrapes websites for personal medical information and tax information when you file returns. There are no laws yet to stop them so they can literally do what they want.

Companies won't stop until laws which don't exist as of now, tell them to.

It's easy to pick out the morons nowadays, people usually tell you upfront.

Dropped AT&T over a decade ago and went with T-Mobile. Never regretted it. Was finally able to get the AT&T sim to take. In one location I got over 700 Mbps one time, the fastest I have ever received with cellular. Otherwise the results were about the same as T-Mobile. Rarely get even 100 Mbps. Latest test at home AT&T 7 Mbps, T-Mobile 17.5
