wow, I've fell onto my iPhone 3g screen in the road when I was drunk and have dropped the phone MANY times. Not one crack. I think theres a quality issue with the new screens. Like they didn't mix the glass correctly or something.

Really? You act like the screens on no other iPhones ever broke. I had a friend who dropped his 3G from like a foot off the ground, it landed on a book (not as hard as concrete) and the screen still shattered. I've dropped my phone onto concrete from four or five feet up and it didn't even get scratched. The screen breaking depends on a number of factors.

From iFixYouri: Tests reveal that repeatedly dropping an iPhone 4 on concrete will actually crack the screen and render the device unusable. (Caution: Difficult to watch video.)

This should be a sticky. Drop a phone with glass front and back on concrete and you risk breaking it. I'd hate for someone to miss out on this invaluable nugget of info.

yup, missed a step, iPhone was in my hand, I fell and with my palm slid the phone across the ground. I did have a screen protector and one those snap on back plates on the phone.

But i've dropped my phone at least 20 times.

I would rather save my face then the iPhone face.. I can always buy a new iPhone.LOL

Knock on wood, I've never cracked a screen to any of my phones. I have dropped an iPhone in the water at the beach. lol

I always love seeing these things, I remember seeing one for the 3g where he put it in a bowl of cereal.

Guys, I heard some amazing news about the new iPhone 4G. Some dude in Iran nuked his iPhone and guess what, it shattered. That just shows what a pile of crap the iPhone is, can't even stand up to a 5 megaton blast. What a POS, I'm returning it for EVO.

Hello everyone...figured we'd chime in here. There was a lot of talk about how strong the glass really was, how it wouldn't break, yada yada yada.

We did a drop test of an iPhone 4 w/o internal circuit board about a week or two ago. That test we did not film, came under scrutiny by many. People said the pictures were fake, photoshopped, even said we hit it with a hammer! They couldn't believe that glass + concrete = shatter...

Well we promised a drop test of a FULLY functioning iPhone 4, and there are the results. Unedited, uncut.

We will be doing a follow-up to this one with a bumper, as requested.

For those of you with the positive feedback, it's our pleasure. We're here to help and inform of our findings. However scientific, or unscientific, they may be.

We appreciate all the support the macrumors community provides us and look forward to many many more enlightening findings, pictures, videos that we will gladly share with you guys!

Cheers and enjoy your new iPhone 4! It really is an AWESOME piece of technology.

:D

I don't get all the negative responses. People are always asking to see drop/scratch tests, but when someone actually posts one, they get mocked.

Anyway, this just means that I'll be getting a case. :)

I dont get it either. It was just a test at Apples claim that the glass is 30 times stronger than plastic and posters are getting butthurt.

is this thread serious? LOL I threw my iphone on the ground in a fit of rage and to my suprise the cement won!!! **** YOU APPLE!!! MAKE A CRYSTAL PHONE!

So were you able to fix that iPhone 4?

Another one bites the dust

http://gizmodo.com/5572244/iphone-4-smash//gallery/2

Gizmodo, June 24, 2010: Everything was great in my little world—I was in Times Square with my shiny new iPhone 4. And then the inevitable happened—or what, I imagine, we'll come to think of as the inevitable. I tried to do the little trick where you hold the iPhone 4 just with your left hand and all your bars drop away until you have no service. Note to readers: Don't do this in a crowded intersection during rush hour. I felt my phone slip from my awkwardly positioned fingers—it hung for a moment at the end of my ear bud cord, like a bungee jumper moments before his cord snaps—and then I painfully watched as it tumbled over the curb in a sudden whirl of annihilation. The back glass panel shattered, and so did my heart.

Another one bites the dust

I'm sorry, as much as I enjoy reading Gizmodo (at times), they have a clear agenda.

Wow....

These guys are effin stupid. This is just as dumb as those a$$holes who destroyed that iPad on launch day. There are so many people out there who would.... i dont know... wait outside a store for 8+ hours to have one, and actually be grateful for it. Fail.

I don't believe you. I should be able to use it as a football and smack it against any solid surface and it should look perfect. Anything less is Microsoft.
