The coated black metal on the black version is what scares me the most and specifically why I ended up choosing white. I think I actually like the look of the black better and I have a white 4s so it would be a nice change but I would be pissed if after a year of it getting slid on desks and tables or nicked by keys or something and the silver metal shows through.

I can't imagine the metal is black all the way through, I'm not sure how they would do that really. Pretty much all black metal is either PVD coated or anodized and that is all a surface treatment.

Without "antennagate" I think the failure of the black staying black could be the outrage with this new phone.

This is exactly why I got the white...

At first, I wasn't sure which one to get... but what helped me with the decision was reading that the band on the black version is anodized. Anodizing is a surface chemical treatment that is only 2-3nm thick. Once you scratch the band, you'll definitely see the shiny raw aluminum underneath and I really really don't want an all black iPhone with shiny silver dings all over the band after a few months of use.

I chose white because of heat from sunlight

This might be a weird reason for my choosing white, but I figure since it's exposed to sunlight while in my car, a white iPhone may not get as warm as a black iPhone.

This is why I chose white, although I like both the white and black colors equally in terms of aesthetics.

If they're using the same PVD coating that watch makers use on their cases you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

No, for two reasons:

1) The proximity sensor sticks out like a sore thumb.

2) There's a thin border around the screen which goes mainly unnoticed if you have a black iPhone.

though I never thought about what someone just said regarding metal coating. Oh well, I am not changing now.

Believe me once you've gone black, you'll never go back :)

The problem with the white iPhone, is that the band remains silver or silver-like. What you end up getting is an elongated iPhone 4/4S with even worst looking back shell. It's still a fast phone but unless you're trying to convince people that you're chaste (i.e. virgin), go with black. Hope I've convinced you ;)

Not true, I owned a black iPhone and hated it. This will be my third white iPhone and I can't see myself ever switching back to black. Especially if it's the ugly two-toned black of this iPhone. If they had kept it all one color, I might have went with black......but as it is, the white is sexier looking (especially the white iPhone 5).

Not to mention the whole scratches thing. My black iPhone showed tons of scratches even though it was babied; neither of my white iPhones show so much as a single blemish.

No. But you clearly do. So why not just title the thread "I feel I ordered the wrong color." What is wrong with you people? Why do people insist on constantly try to warp their singular experiences into a group hug?

I never said I had a regret. I said the white is growing on me, so stop reading stuff no one else is.

Thank you!!! These threads are so annoying!

So do us and yourself a big favor....STOP entering threads that annoy you or enter and S.T.F.U!!

I had all black iphones with the exception of the 1st one (no choice) but, then for my 4 - I got white and loved it, but I believe the black is more approrpiate suiting for my lifestyle. Black car, black hair, black watch, black phone, etc...

:p

White kind of didn't fit into my scheme of things, but I do like it.

Guess I'm one of the only ones who is quite happy about ordering the white one. I have a black iPhone 4 now because the white ones weren't available when I bought it, and have been wanting a white one ever since. It just looks more elegant to me. Then again, I'm a chick, and some would say the white iPhones look a bit more feminine.

You're probably going to have to deal with black bars for a while anyway (apps that don't support the 16:9 ratio)

I planned on using an otterbox case with mine anyway. I was going to get a clear case so I can show off the aluminum back.. or just go naked..

But after seeing a drunk guy drop his iphone 4s and seeing it shatter in a pile of Stella Artois

I have a white 4s...black iPad 2...and ordered the black iPhone 5. I loved the white 4s originally, but now there's nothing special about it.

The black iPhone 5 immediately drew me in...love the all black look with the matte back and the black sides (rather than silver). I thought about the white for a half a second...but the two-tone look made me go right to black. Not to mention, I'm big into photography and photos (and games, videos, etc) tend to look better on the black, IMO.

I think it looks pretty cool

Unless you get a chisel or similar tool and deliberately force/scratch the aluminum... its not going to happen.

I think there is nothing to worry about.

Yep. I got with white every year... Got the black one and now I want white again.

Nope had White 3G and 3GS then Black IP4, then White 4S but the black looks so cool I went to a Black 32GB for my 5, no regrets especially after the paint chipped on my 4S hone button and Apple did nothing about it

Every time I see the black iPhone I regret my choice, but then I go to apples site and look at the white again and remember why I chose white in the first place.

I got black and have been seeing some more of the white and it's growing on me. Every device I have is white, so this is a change for me. Too bad I wasn't able to see in person before deciding.

Worst case black comes and I exchange in store for white.

If you are male then stick with Black, white is VERY feminine. THe white ones I've seen look dingy.

Does it really matter since 99% plus keep them in fugly cases (otterbox et al)

I agree, Silver & White has grown on me.

I ordered both colors for the wife and I. Over the weekend I went looking for more pics and vids of the two, decided Silver & White looks like my favorite.

I have a black iPhone 4 now and I think I'm going to get the white iPhone 5. But before I do that, I will go check it out at the store first.

I had the original iPhone, black iPhone 4 and was planning on getting the white this time around but then I saw the black version and fell in love. It was an obvious choice for me.

Agreed ...

This, but I think white still looks pretty good on the 5, it's just that black looks soooooooooooooooo much better.

That and, also guys, my Art History teacher said in class the other day not to buy white iPhones/iPads/etc because the white will make the colors on the screen look darker and incorrect by comparison. And I trust this dude because he also teaches classes on color theory, and when you think of it, it makes sense because letterboxing on videos has never been any color other than black (asides like IBM or whatever company uses that blue letterboxing gimmick).

this is true...but i really really really dont like the back of the black iphone 5. the white one got a very sexy back though...

----------

i know how sucky it is to choose colors. its a dilemma that always comes back.
I always owned black/standard color on previous iphones(all generations).
But this is the first time im picking white, with the following reasons:

-The white back looks way sexier then the black back, imo.
-The white is a bit more protected against direct sunlight, thus not getting as hot fast.
-Probaly more protected against -visible- scratches.

Cons:
Screen isnt really fitting with the white color...since the borders of the screen are always black.
Camera holes ect are more visible.

its possible that i switch the last second...im getting the phone at the apple store in line.
