That's feldercarb and you know it. Curse the Lords of Kobol! :D

What the h%$# are you talking about?

(excuse my bluntness)

But for the up, up, up on the AAPL ticker, I would have put MR in the time out corner for all this Windows talk. If I want the low down on all that is Redmond, I can go to the Thurrott page. On a side note, Gary - we'll be in Annapolis next Monday at Ruth's Chris. If it wasn't our "one nice dinner every six months," we'd invite you and Rob along. But, we plan on many more trips out there this summer...especially after July 17th.

Forget blocking the Politics and Marketplace forum from new posts... I can think of a more fitting contender for that treatment.

The horror, the horror...

Part of me knows BootCamp is a good thing, but my inner doomer just really feels like it isn't.

I can tell you this, I never thought I'd see so much happiness around here over being able to run Windows.

You are Mac users in a Windows world. As hard as it is to admit some parts of your life will be infiltrated with Windows. It's just the way it goes sometimes.

On the upside at least, if you have apps that only run on Windows (like the hubby's exam-taking software for law school), you no longer have to have multiple laptops.

You know, you could just not open the links. ;)

True but you just look at the "New Posts" list and see:

"XP"

"Vista"

"Windows"

"BSOD"

Yuck.

People poop MS all the time, now they're running in droves to install the crap on their machine?

You won't catch me doing it with a Mac ever.

Meh.

That's all fine and dandy, but that is the kind of thing that really only needs to be asked occasionally. Besides, it is pretty obvious that getting the edu XP (along with Norton) would be cheaper than getting another laptop. After law school, I could delete XP and be done with it. But, that doesn't create a need for so many Windows threads....

I've been thinking this recently too. I was almost going to start a thread until I saw this one. I suppose it's just a bit of a phase, but all of the Windows talk just makes the place seem dirty (imagine the word 'dirty' being said by the cleaning guy in Blackbooks).

I also think BV has the right idea!

I am totally fed up with all of this stuff about putting Windows on a Mac. OK - you can do it if you want, now shut up! I really believe this is a minority thing.

I'm not but when scrolling through new posts, it's hard to avoid seeing the thread titles. I'll give it a few days but then I may well be blocking the Windows on the Mac forum from the New Posts on my machine.

is this possible? how can one block threads? edit: i just found it. thx devilot.

i have said months ago, ever since apple decided to use intel processors. window$ will come soon enough. and here we are.

again i predict that more threads about repairing window$ will pop up soon enough.

i got my ppc equipment and i am happy about that.

that makes two of us, sir.
Make that three. Maybe there is some sort of pledge we could take...

What will really annoy me is when the forums start filling up with people moaning about what problems they are having with windows - I don't want to know!

Yeah, I think it (XP on mac on this site) has gotten overblown, myself. Kinda like the "PowerBook G5's next Tuesday" rumors of old. :( Those were the days.

I disagree that it's annoying. Apple gave users a method to install Windows XP on their systems. People are curious and asking about how to get it installed and how the hardware fares with the OS. It's just as bad as people asking for any sort of benchmark when new hardware comes out or likewise when new software comes out for the Mac that has appropriate counterparts in the Windows world.

While I agree there is a lot of "talk" about this I don't think it is any different than any other program/hardware release. This one just happens to have the word "Windows" in the name. I dislike using Windows as much as the next but given the new software it's certainly should not be a surprise to any member who has been here a while.

Maybe at some point there will be a facility in vBulletin to allow you to hide a forum from view and you can hide the Windows on OS X forum. Myself, I'd hide the political forums from my new post search.

It'll die down within a week and we can promptly get back to whining about nothing happening and answering the daily "How do I get an avatar question?". Until then, appreciate that whether you agree or not, a new piece of software has been released by Apple that is exciting to a good number of people. It might not be for you but iPod socks probably weren't for you either... :) And if they were well... *shrug* :p

Maybe you're right. It can be quite funny.

Unable to boot back into OS X, Boot Camp corrupted OSX, BSOD on a Mac..., Boot Camp Bugs! formatted my whole drive, now can't install osx, Troubles trying to reinstall Mac OS X, HELP! Unable to Install OS X on MacBook when trying to install Windows XP! Computer freezes when restart/quit WinXP

:D

ROFL!!

I've wanted to go in those threads and taunt, but only once have I done it. :D

Ahh, it is so tempting, isn't it. FGS, it's a beta and it's running Windows! I'm surprised the install notes don't read: "To play with fire, douse Intel Mac in petrol, kerosene or some such flammable substance. Remember to always smoke near your machine when using Camp Booty."
