I'll be the first to "eat crow" (i.e. regarding my "not quite as much punch as the Air 2" comment). Display Mate's initial review notes are in. I guess it's "official"....the iPad Mini 4 is one impressive display.

I use my mini for reading more than anything else and wasn't too worried about the gamut. But they also say "With the new Anti-Reflection screen coating on the iPad Air 2 its Reflectance is just 2.5%, by far the lowest we have ever measured for any Tablet or Smartphone." Wow.

I upgraded to a mini 4 from a mini 1 and what a difference! I love the mini form factor, for me it is perfect for couch surfing. On iOS 7 the mini 1 was slow but useable, I only upgraded it to iOS 8 last month and wish I hadn't (then upgraded to iOS 9 but that didn't make any difference).
Anyway, liking iOS 9 on the mini 4 and loving being able to have more than one safari tab open, switching apps and not having them reload!

Really liking mini4. even with air2 $349 deals cropping up on staples.com, i think smaller is better for me and my tablet doesn't leave the apartment often, but when it does, its the way to go. and i prefer handling the smaller form factor.

I WON THE SCREEN LOTTERY FIRST SHOT!!! EVEN BACKLIGHT, BRIGHT, WHITE WHITES, VIVID COLORS, NO UNIFORMITY ISSUES OR IMAGE RETENTION HALLELUJAH I SHOULD PLAY THE ACTUAL LOTTO. I'll be holding onto this guy for some time.

beautiful full sRGB screen probably the biggest bummer since having mini2 for 2 years but i still think the problem is overstated but side by side no doubt and the mini finally has 'that pop,' I've longed for, laminated anti glare screen against the glass, the new body is nice and aesthetically i like the absence of the mute /lock rotation switch.

in that youtube video side by side with air 2, not much difference in performance it seems. on benchmarking, the multicore of A8x is like almost 50% more. But single, similar league. and good to have new proc period, A7 two generations in a row was completely unacceptable.

2gb of ram is a joy! as is PiP, split screen iMessage while on safari, and tabbing without reloads.

Speakers seem better too.

thinking about handing down the mini2 to a family member on mini1, a substantial upgrade.

or maybe will sell to a co worker friend. either way i want it to go to a good place, it served me well but i think there's no going back :D

My pad time will be increased again now that I have a screen that is without compromise beautiful.

Ha, I know that "won the lottery feeling."

My Mini 4 is the most perfect iPad I ever owned. I've previously had an iPad 2, 3, and still have an Air 2. This Mini 4 is just flawless, at least mine (and yours) is. Love it.

Also really glad to see Displaymate verify what I was seeing -- truly superb screen. Finally a Mini worth buying.

between the mini 4 and air 2 which one are you liking more?

I'm test driving an air2 as well, since there's such a good deal with Staples and 10% stacked from cartwheel.

I think my mini4 may go back, even though its a lovely device. my air2 is also on 8.4 which helps for jailbreaking and tweaking.

my air 2 has beefier proc, a8x, and 64gb instead of 16.

I also like the added screen real estate :)

i lucked out on a beautiful screen on air2 as well. dang QC is getting better or im getting luckier. probably the latter.

I prefer the Mini, simply bc it's easier to take along, takes less room and weighs less in my camera bag, and easier to hold in one hand. But both are brilliant. I've wanted a Mini for years, but one of my primary uses is reviewing photos and previous Minis had terrible colors, so this is the Mini I've been waiting for.

My wife will get my Air 2 and I'll sell her Air 1. This Mini is MINE. :)

what issue should I look for on the screen?

I have a mini 2 and picked up a air 2 and still trying to decide if I like the mini form factor more but the screen size and hardware internals are nice

I forgot to mention the improved camera. I'm glad this has been improved because I use my iPads for listing on eBay and it's great to be able to do it all on the one device including the original images. I also use scanner apps to record receipts, invoices etc. and sometimes people forget the need for a camera is more than just social and landscapes.

I'm loving getting back to the size of the mini from my air 2. I just couldn't live with knowing my mini was so much slower than what I could get with the air 2:). But now I get the best of both worlds.

Anyone know, does the mini 4 use the new, second gen fingerprint sensor? Like the iPhone 6 Plus? I'm assuming not.

It's hard. I love the display of the mid-size iPads. On the other hand, I love everything else about the Mini size. :)
I know what you mean. I used the Mini "O" and Mini 2 for two years straight, then last year jumped to the Air "O" after the disappointing Mini 3 update. The display size of the Air kind of spoiled me. However, like you, the Mini's form factor otherwise trumps the Air...for me anyway

It's not an easy decision between the two now. It really does come down to screen size preference (i.e. Notwithstanding the A8 vs A8X difference).

I'm looking to buy a mini but waiting for some kind of deal. Do you think we can get Best Buy to price match the 10% off all iPads from Cartwheel by Target? Then use the Discover apple pay discover deal for even sweeter deal.

Is the 10% off cartwheel deal for ipad mini as well?

Yes it's for the mini as well. Though it does specifically say iPad mini 3, 2, 1. But on the mobile app it just says mini.

yeah its best normal deal right now. Looking at 2014, the mini 3 had the 100 gift card from target, though no guarantees if it will be the same this year.

I am planning to buy iPad by December end, should I buy the new iPad Mini 4 or wait for iPad Air 3 (which would have better specs than iPad mini 4). Please advice.

buy the mini 4 because apple finally made a mini that isn't garbage.

Wait for the air 3 or pro if you prefer something larger. The pro is definitively more interesting to me if I cared about a larger ipad.

I like the 7 inch screen size, both Air and Pro have great processors. Just wanted to have a good mobile device for playing games and doing some work while on the move. Thanks for your advice.
