Yep. Because it's basically an ipad vr. If I could use an ipad to "be productive" i wouldn't have pc's and macs. I mean what don't you understand about this? It's as tiring as the multiple threads we see on here "can an ipad be my primary device?"

In fact the main interest in productivity people seem to have is its ability to display one Mac screen which also requires you having a mac. In this scenario, users envision having a mac screen up (using the mac kb and mouse), and multiple vision (or ipad) apps open (using same mac kb and mouse or maybe requires an additional bt kb). Or perhaps the bt kb is connected to both mac and vision pro. We don't know yet.

And for some, that lone big mac screen may be enough to justify the purchase.

Can you even copy and paste from vision safari or any ipad apps to this one mac window? What ipad or ipad like (vision) apps are even useful or will be useful here? I'm still waiting on ipad to be useful much less this device because in general ipad "productivity" apps are garbage.

Ideally this should've been a macVR (not ipad vr) and macOS based. No need for another mac. Multiple mac windows. No worries about ipad apps period. KB and mouse bt.
Well if you lack the intuition to understand how the iPad, Vision Pro or any other Apple device that doesn’t run Mac OS can be used as a productivity device in other people’s lives that’s your problem.

I literally completed university with an iPad and keyboard. What are you trying to say I wasn’t productive?

The reality is people are just tired of comments like yours that seemingly wishes for every Apple device to be more like Mac OS. What is it like 1% of you people who always find your way to every forum to complain about the same things over and over again. Just do everyone a favor, disappear!

iPad is a wonderful device, but most companies have not replaced laptop purchases with iPad purchases due to iPad just continuing to be too limited for most (but not all) professional work.

visionOS will be the same.

At least in my line of work (software) the limitations are a choice by Apple, not inherent HW limitations. M2 is plenty powerful for most work.

Apple has been building continuity between devices for years for a reason. I would expect it to solve most of this.

For me going to just one 4k Mac screen is ok due to ability to use iPad/visionOS apps for many simple supporting tasks.

“The system uses AirPlay 2, and allows you to connect your Mac wirelessly to the headset just by looking at your computer through your Vision Pro.”

“This should probably go without saying, but older Macs based on Intel architecture won't come along for the ride into the spatial computing future.”

Is there evidence that it won’t work with Intel Macs? I don’t think “this should go without saying”…
If it works on AirPlay 2, then Intel Macs could very well work with this.

Not at all. I expect it to be immensely useful work device, but unfortunately you need a Mac as well to use from Vision Pro.

Looking forward to testing next Friday when it arrives.
I can’t wait to read real users’ experiences with the VisionPro. I hope you’ll write about it here!

@MacRumors, it works on my Intel Mac
MacBook Pro 2019 16 inch. Albeit it is a bit laggy.

Connect an Intel Mac

Few weeks later and I'm literally reading this on my 2019 MacBook Pro Retina... on a window the size of a bedsheet floating in the digital air in front of me.

Can this atmosphere even be called "air?"

Mind you I maxed literally every spec at time of purchase in an effort to futureproof. Oh hey, hello future! Glad you could make it to the party. ツ

Honestly, from seeing it in action, I’ve come around on Vision Pro and intend to save up for one. Part of the appeal is that I could work at a Mac and use many of the apps I’d have (say opened up full screen in a space on the desktop) as separate displays around the Mac display. I could use the Mac display for Xcode, for instance, but have Mail, work chat, OmniFocus, and the like floating around the main display.

That said, I hope it doesn’t get to the point where it becomes a platform people use in public. It’s one thing to use it on an airplane or an Amtrak train, for sure, maybe even a commuter plane. But I can’t see it being terribly practical for work on a local bus or a subway train, even if your commute is a little longer. And I don’t want people walking down the street wearing VR headsets being completely divorced from stuff going on around them, like they already do with phones. I really hate it when people slowly walk up the subway stairs because they’re scrolling through a social media app on their phone. If you want to use your phone in public, step to the side of the sidewalk or hall and don’t use it while you’re on the stairs or escalator. I like the two hour battery life and the weight because it means that people are more likely to use it when they’re (relatively) stationary and not on the go. Put it in your bag between home and work, don’t wear it on the subway.

(In New York, you see a lot of people wearing AirPods Max. I cringe a little when I see it because I’ve already had to get three or four sets repaired due to the condensation issue, which is made much worse by using them both indoors and out. Additionally, the headphones are bulky so I have to make sure I have space for them in my bag, and I can’t wear them while wearing hats. They’re a lifesaver at the office, but, on the train or while walking, I use AirPods Pro. I don’t want the Vision Pro to become a similar issue, stick to using it when you’re pretty stationary.)
