One of the things I found interesting when I first bought an iPhone was how it (and other smartphones) redefined the value of $0.99. I know people who will only use free apps and are shocked to find out that I might have paid $0.99 (or more) for an app. Yet, these are the same people who will buy coffee daily from Starbucks or blow a large chunk of cash in the bar.

I use to steal music. Then I left college, got a job cause I wanted money, brought a Mac, got an iPod for Christmas and now BUY my tracks or albums or apps of iTunes plus I can get TONS of FREE AND LEGAL music fom my podcasts, I then buy the tracks I like from the podcasts.

iTunes is a blessing and if it was as popular when I downloaded music as it was a few years back when I did, I would have never ripped of music.

As for films, well when Hollywood manages to offer something decent let me know haha but I just wait for them to come to satellite, watch them at home legally. Also you have Netflix etc.

However I do know people who have servers in the cloud and download stuff but funnily it's normally American Shows we don't get.

I tell them to get off welfare:D

How sad is this, that what you said will most likely be true...

I do not get it either? I have no trouble paying for a single song for $1-1.30 but hate buying an entire album for $13.00 for one lousy song, so in fact iTunes has made it much easier, and everyone profits as they should.

I am not a fan of RIAA, however tell your customers eventually they will catch up, they have a lot of money to spend on lawyers and since ppl who share music or download illegally break the law, the courts have been awarding the music industry. Don't get me wrong, most of us have done this at one point or another, but I am 100% legit, and pay for my Music, Apps, and Movies, if I can not afford something, or do not think it is worth it, I just do not buy it or get it illegal.

I spent over $400 on two hockey sticks.
Some friends woul not spend $1 on any app. But some of those same people would flinch at spending $8 for a pack of cigarettes or $14 on a drink.

To each their own.

From what I've seen of people who hate paying for everything is that most of them have actually turned out to be relatively wealthy. But then I guess it's true what they say that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer.

Well, at least I paid for 2 songs on Amazon, and I actually used a proxy to to that.

I'm more concerned about your lowly 250watt system but even then your test wasn't a true test. You were comparing a higher bitrate song(bought) vs a lower bite rate one that was downloaded. You can find higer bit rate songs to download so go back and download one of those and compare it against the bought version.

I doubt it just welfare people but they're an easy target for people to accuse. Rich people steal too, ask those that lost their life savings to those ponzi schemes. I know plenty of people with money and they don't buy music and as for the RIAA catching up with them ehhh doubt that too.

The RIAA are the real crooks and should go away but that's a different subject all together

Since when does window shattering bass imply that it's good quality music?? No offense, but you guys that ride around with with that earth shaking bass, thinking it sounds good, is way, way off. Whenever I see one of you I just have to laugh. It's horrible...trust me.

Never implied that I ride around trying to shatter my widows. I don't even like hip hop genre, was just trying to show the difference in quality. I laugh when I hear people "bumping" their music all the time lol. specially in parking lots trying to sell their CD's for $10

What has paying with music got to do with the iPhone?

If you read, I said I work in sells. Most people automatically throw "iphone" out of their choice of phone because they " have to pay for EVERYTHING" thats what I was trying to say

SPOTIFY! (Honorable mention: MOG)

I know a lot of people scoff at spending 10 a month to "rent" music but whatever. The catalog is fantastic, the software is good...Works for me. I'm done with managing a huge music library across many machines etc. Spotify (and similar services-MOG, Rdio, etc) are the future.

I usually just leave those people alone. It's their problem if they don't want to buy music, and I'm not about to educate them about it. It's another thing if you're a music junkie or want to pursue a career in that field, if you're not buying your music, you're in the wrong 100%.

My dad actually was one of those people that questioned the point of Rhapsody two years or so ago when I subscribed the family (I use Spotify Premium for myself). But now he thinks its the greatest thing ever because he's not wasting money on CDs that nobody will be listening to in this house in a year's time and he likes the radio feature.

+1
i wish spotifys stations where like mogs, with the ability to select how many songs it suggests being the original artist/similar artists.

I don't get it either TBH. I used to work in a music store and I'd get people ALWAYS complaining that they'd never spend .99-$1.29 for one song yet they'd pay $15 plus for the whole CD, why?, just to get a few songs. Eventually they'd sell the old CD back cuz the rest of the songs on the album sucked

The Oatmeal comic pretty much sums it up so there's no real reasoning behind some people's look on purchasing single songs or apps. I have friends who shelled out $200-$300 for an iPhone yet refuse to pay for any apps and want to jailbreak their iPhones so they can use Installous to get free ones. I laugh at them as they make either the same salary as me, or even more, yet are so stingy they don't/can't even pay for a freakin .99 app.

I've given up on them and let them do whatever they see fit. Personally, I've dropped over $500 in iTunes so far for music/apps and am totally fine with that. I actually prefer buying individual songs instead of whole albums (in most cases) as well as being a general sucker for some in-app purchases. To each their own I guess.

I don't respond usually because the answer is clear.

Every person has a different relationship with money and a different
value system.

I've seen people that don't like paying money for apps on their smart phone but will shell out a couple of grand for a flight and hotel stay.

It comes down to what's important for them.

I've also noticed that when people hate paying for simple things many times it's because they are blowing their money on expensive coffee or games or cigarettes. They only way they can justify the latter purchases is to go cheap everywhere else.

I hate ppl in general so I'll tell them what I tell any other cheap ass. **** and gtfo
