Hm. Well, I'll grant that I do think it all rather odd behaviour, even by the generous spectrum of standards with which that expression could normally be used in the context and setting of an online community.

Mind you, I hadn't seen it as a possible information gathering exercise with a creepy intent.

Those of us who are sufficiently paranoid and cynical have been suspicious from the start. ;)

Well, if an individual here answers several questions for the OP, all the OP has do is search Facebook (or any other social network) for someone who fits the bill.

----------

...plus I googled the username...

Tried it myself. That was interesting. Definite pattern emerging.

If that's all true, I'd be wary of providing any personal info.

Looking at past threads, some of the info being requested by the OP could be the sort of thing used to answer (or deduce an answer to) a personal question in order to reset an account password?

Phishing expedition?

Well, he's got me cracked!

It seems that OP has been banned! I was rather enjoying his/her random questions. He will be missed.

If all you miss are the questions, those seem sufficiently algorithmic that a program could be written. Maybe modifying one of the simpler chatbots would suffice.

Or maybe just randomly permute phrases from his past thread titles.

Wow. Just wow. (Well done, and may I applaud your dedication and exemplary research skills).

Three things about this strike me.

1) The OP has not posted in any thread he has not started.

2) The OP has not posted in any thread he has started (after he started it).

3) The OP has never started a thread on anything to do with an Apple product.

Re this particular thread title, I may have to think further on it.

What annoys me often is when a post is started with a question and the OP never offers an opinion. In this case the OP did provide an answer which is a plus, but if the habit is to make single posts and participate no further, then that's a minus. Consequently I don't feel compelled to cough up an answer.

Broadly speaking, I'm pretty much in complete agreement with you.

I suppose it depends on what you, or one - as an OP - actually wants, or want - from the thread, and how you view matters such as online etiquette and behaviour if one is - or you are - the OP.

Personally, I would be of the view that in starting a thread, you are starting a conversation, and that implies a dialogue of some sort.

That means a sort of implied obligation to respond with some comments and thoughts on the posts made, even if only in the role of chairperson or facilitator of an online conversation.

I agree whole heartedly!

In chronological order:

Smoking my first spliff.
College.
Getting my first publishing deal.

Here's my top 3 moments in my life.
1. Becoming a Christian - dedicating my life to Jesus was the best.
2. Marrying my lovely bride.
3. The birth of my twins.

There's other moments in my life where I feel that I've been blessed, so its a little unfair to limit the number to three, but if I had too, then those are the ones for me.

1. Joining MacRumors.
2. Getting an avatar.
3. Reaching 7094 (with this one) posts.

In reality
1. Getting married/birth of my daughter
2. Buying first home at 26
3. Paying off mortgage at 33

Great!!!

for me
1. completing college
2. getting married
3. buying a car at the end of last year :D

I posted in one of his thread supporting another user who asked him to stop making useless threads and both of us were threatened with being banned.
