Only worthwhile if your internet service provider provides you with the bandwith to support 4k video streams. If 4k video's put too much strain on ISP's network infrastructure, expect prices to increase.
The world just spent an entire year on video calls, put the lie from ISP’s that they’re bandwidth limited to bed. It’s always been them claiming not to have it to continue charging more when their back ends clearly are capable of more than they admit.

Google pulled the YouTube app off Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show from 2017 to 2019. And the AppleTV 4K was released in 2017.

Either way you look at it, Apple TV owners haven’t missed out on much the past 4 years.

It's one of the reason why Apple TV is still being my #1 home theater center. Yes smart TVs are everywhere nowadays, along with cheap TV sticks, chromecast, and many forms of set top box.. but there's no TV box out there that receives a long-term updates and supports like tvOS does.

Except maybe Playstation, or Xbox.. but that's a completely different category despite some overlaps.

The exclusivity of YouTube playback at 4K at 60 frames per second on the new Apple TV 4K, which began arriving to customers today, is likely due to the video codec that YouTube uses compared to other apps, which requires more processing power.

Uh, no. It's probably because Apple borked the old box, but it's def. not processing power.

Confirmed that the new Apple TV 4K supports 4K HDR @ 59.94Hz on my 2017 LG 4K TV.
I still remember watching MaxTech and the host said that the new Apple TV 4K is not faster than the original Apple TV 4K since A12 is not faster than A10X in benchmarks. It turns out that a newer generation SoC does bring some tangible improvement to the experience.
I also remember the hundreds of comments here and on Reddit saying “it’s not even faster” before it even released. In fact, one messaged me angry saying “it’s proven“ with a bunch of benchmarks…from other products 😂. We use this box every day, like our phones, and replacing a sub $200 box from 2017[!] was a no brainer for me for even the tiniest bump but clearly this release delivers a lot more.

There is no HDR in YouTube on the new ATV. 4K 60fps yes, HDR no. That screenshot says HDR because he didn't turn on match media content. Tried setting it in 4K SDR, does not switch to HDR when playing back HDR content on YouTube.

I got mine today. I have tested this several times now. No HDR.

I have the 2017 LGOLED65C7P. I thought you need a newer tv with HDMI 2.1 to support hdr at 60 fps?

correct me if I'm wrong... but to me this doesn't mean it doesn't support HDR... but more like it doesn't support switching format (everything will be upscaled or downscaled to your selected mode).

Who buys Apple TV when a)virtually every modern TV comes with all of the major streaming apps (and in many cases AirPlay support) and b) you can get a fire stick or Roku for a fraction of the price?

It can play 4K HDR @60 fps just fine.
YouTube app does not support automatic matching media content. That's why does not switch to HDR in your case.
Try the opposite (system HDR > playing SDR video) and you will see it.

Sorry for my bad English

my personal experience and opinion...

I really like the price of the Fire TV 4k Stick... but the interface is ****** compared to the Apple TV.
Also, you get ads in the interface (no just ads for amazon services) unless you use an add blocker of some sort.
Amazon clearly put the emphasis on their services.

Apple TV is more neutral. clear and easy to use interface. no ads.
integrate better with all the Apple Ecosystem, including Homekit.

if you don't mind about the interface and ads, go with Fire TV...
If you are well invested into the Apple ecosystem, Apple TV is the way to go.
