Be interested to know this ?I have the 2017 LGOLED65C7P. I thought you need a newer tv with HDMI 2.1 to support hdr at 60 fps?
It is when you consider what all it does. Plus resale value on them is 100$ after 4 years. So 80$ divided over 4 years is 20$ a year. Not much. And you only had to pay 179 for it. Incredible value.
Yup. Some knuckle head in here bought the new one because of this. Having the previous one as well.I watched a Youtube 4K video at 60hz on my old AppleTV 4K (2017) to confirm it could right before I plugged in my new AppleTV 4K (2021). So doesn't seem exclusive to the new box to me.
Meanwhile, back in the real-world we all just lived through a pandemic lockdown where everyone was stuck at home and internet streaming sky rocketed. Despite the sudden increase in demand caused by the lockdown, the ISPs actually dropped their data caps during it and in the process proved that they've been lying about data caps being needed for network stability, and that they are really just a monopolistic strategy to bilk their customers.Remember, it was only a few years ago that ISP's put forward the notion of a two tier internet because the ISP's were complaining that the networking infrastructure was becoming saturated with heavy demand on network traffic due to an increase in online gaming and high quality video streams (4k was not around then). If ISP's were complaining back then that the infrastructure was struggling, how much do you think they are going to complain due to the increase in 4k video streams.
ISP's will increase their prices and they will use the increase in 4k video streaming as their reasoning.
If you want the extra 0.06hz you need the ATV 4K Max Pro. I hear it’s going to be really snappy.Leave it to Apple to not give you your full 60Hz.![]()
What bollocksOnly worthwhile if your internet service provider provides you with the bandwith to support 4k video streams. If 4k video's put too much strain on ISP's network infrastructure, expect prices to increase.
pretty sure that was sarcasmThe two that I have still work great. Apple didn't send a command to make them not work anymore.
Absolute bollocks. I’ve got a 2018 OLED and it had a firmware update only a couple of months ago.LG stops supporting there tvs after a year !
I cannot get HDR to work on the YouTube app with my 2017 ATV 4K. Other movie apps it works fine.
Got it. ThanksYouTube app still does not auto switch. So you have to set your Apple TV to output HDR before you go into the YouTube app. The problem with that of course is that when watching a non-HDR video in YouTube it’s not going to look right. YouTube need to pull their finger out!
did you check quality setting in YouTube after starting the video? every time I did, it was playing at 1440p maximum for 60fps. but 2160p or 4k in 30fps was fine.I watched a Youtube 4K video at 60hz on my old AppleTV 4K (2017) to confirm it could right before I plugged in my new AppleTV 4K (2021). Who buys Apple TV when a)virtually every modern TV comes with all of the major streaming apps (and in many cases AirPlay support) and b) you can get a fire stick or Roku for a fraction of the price?
It does not support HDR. Please turn on stats for nerds before any speculating. You will find the color is still bt.709.YouTube app still does not auto switch. So you have to set your Apple TV to output HDR before you go into the YouTube app. The problem with that of course is that when watching a non-HDR video in YouTube it’s not going to look right. Even if you selected the HDR system interface, if you turn on stats for nerds in your YouTube App, you will find out the color space is still bt.709 => which is SDR.correct me if I'm wrong... but to me this doesn't mean it doesn't support HDR... but more like it doesn't support switching format (everything will be upscaled or downscaled to your selected mode).
Google pulled the YouTube app off Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show from 2017 to 2019. And the AppleTV 4K was released in 2017.
Either way you look at it, Apple TV owners haven’t missed out on much the past 4 years.
My suspicion is that tge clip shiwn it the tweet was some kind of £k hdr version of ntsc( us broadcast) iirc they usedthat strange frameraye due to backwards compatebility with b/w tv ( way back in the analog days, wow some things never change). I supect tgst if the sorce was a 4k/60 fps came capture you would see the expected 60.0 fpsLeave it to Apple to not give you your full 60Hz.![]()
