I wonder how different VR apps are for Apple than Meta. Youtube has a native VR app and has for a while. Is it so different that they could not port it over?
It never was about "can port" but "want port". The Vision Pro market is minor for these companies (so at least right now it doesn't really matter for them to have this app or not).
Apple of course has some interest to have these big apps onboard but these big companies all have their own interests in deals with Apple. Everything is so interlinked and "giving" Apple a Youtube app for Vision surely was part a bigger package deal waiting to happen between Google and Apple, like what happened now with Gemini.
Pretty sure it's similar with a Netflix Vision Pro app. Pretty sure such already exists and waits to be submitted, but Netflix wants something from Apple to release it but the price seems higher than what Apple is willing to give them right now. Or maybe things happened between those two companies some time ago in another deal that left burned soil (similar to the infamous relationship between Apple and Nvidia, or the love-hate relationship between Apple and Google lasting for many years, which seems to become more chill now with the latest AI agreement between them)

I understand that. I just think if I was Youtube and Apple has something why not make a Youtube app for it. That is assuming it is not a huge hassle which is why I am curious if you need to write from the ground up or if you can simply take what you have for Meta and make some changes so it works for Apple.

Got it and it's nice, agree with everyone that Netflix should follow.

What I really miss is a gesture to skip music tracks.

I can only guess but would say it was probably easier for the Youtube team to start from the iOS app code base, most of the VR specific stuff is handled by the OS anyway – hence why many iPad apps usually run pretty smooth on the Vision. And the Youtube app is mainly a 2D window with a video player that for some videos can go spatial.

Yeah safari doesn’t seem to ply nice with a lot of sites/youtube /streaming etc. or other way around or mix of the two

I’d like to think it has to do with glorious Apple privacy features etc…,then these companies/sites don’t go the extra length to fix their stuff to cooperate so as to get you to visit/download their site/app smh.

If morenppl just gave up and stopped engaging then I’m sure there’d be some change as to how they approach safari but ppl (me included at times) want stuff right away so convenience wins out (majority of the time seemingly)

: (

YouTube used to be one of my top favorite sites ever. Really wish Apple or someone consumer friendly would create a nice alternative…

Apple COULD do it I’m guessing since they so many popular video bloggers/instagram users/fans in their corner….

What headphones/speakers do you use with your awesome Vision Pro if you don’t mind my asking…and whatever you daily drive have you tested them against AirPods Pro and or AirPods Max and if so how do they compare? Peace
I just use my AirPods Pro. The Apple Vision Pro is the only device that does lossless audio with them and they sound great. I’ve built home theaters with 7.1 surround sound in the past that were great. I’m at the point in my life now where smaller technology like this is comparable enough to use it and be totally content.

Spatial Audio on the APP with a giant IMAX sized screen pushed out to the ocean is an amazing experience

Glad its finally here - but the player is of course worse than Apples native player, especially the size of the touch targets and the scroll bar - but glad it's here.

Netflix next please.

Nice. Now I finally want an m5 one. Will probably see if they release a newer one in a few years if not I’ll pick up a used m5
So… I’ve looked at that content. It’s several shades down from what Apple produces, even when they’re using an iPhone for capture. I can understand why because large parts of it was captured with far worse tech than what Apple is using, so I’m still looking for some of the newest content to see if it gets any better.

I guess the AI deal pushed Google to finally move ahead with this. I wonder also if Vision Pro will show up as separate in my YT Studio analytics. So far it's just by device, phone, TV, computer, tablet.
It should. As ads don’t appear to play when presented in AVP, they must be offering it as a distinct “OTHER” platform for targeting by ads. As long as no one is buying ads, I’m guessing they won’t be played. 🙂

Do ad blockers works with it or is it like all ios youtube apps, riddled with endless ads?
I haven’t seen an ad yet. I had never used a YouTube app in the past, but started using this one when I found that posted. I’ll probably stop when the ads start flowing in a couple years (once there’s enough folks to advertise to).

I pay for premium I don't get ads. See how that works, a social contract, watch ads or pay to get content
I don’t pay for premium, I don’t get ads either. I think what is working is that no one currently wants to advertise to AVP users. It’ll likely change, but for now, I’ll enjoy it.

The EU would wait until it’s successful then fine the heck out of it.

Actually, you make a GOOD point. If the EU was forward thinking, they would be working to ensure that all the spatial content in the future would be streamed from or by a company based in the EU. Of course, if it proved to be popular, then the EU regulators would regulate it out of existence, so I guess nevermind.

I tried it, and it’s meh… I mean it’s nice to finally have native YouTube App on the Vision, but it’s kind of gimmicky. A « simple » video theater version of the app, straight on launch would have been sufficient.

The interface provided by YouTube is okay, but has none of the wow effect that could be carried by the headset.

360 « immersive » videos (that are pushed down your throat by YouTube) are okay I guess, but it’s nothing new, nor a reason for delaying App availability for this long.

I would say that it’s usual « bare minimum » app with no real differentiating features, as is my feeling with all actual Google apps.

Have you checked Hugh’s channel? They use the URSA immersive camera and shoot in high res:
