YouTube Premium Subscribers Can Now Use iOS Picture-in-Picture: Here's How

I finally got it to work. A couple annoyances, not necessarily YouTube’s fault but it’s just the way system wide PIP works. When you pull down Notification Center, it pauses the video. Also when you lock the screen it pauses the video. Sometimes I want to continue to listen to the audio in the background when I do those things.

It’s annoying but at least it plays in the background when you press play again in each of those cases.

Dark Mode is available — but it does not automatically switch the phone's settings like every other app.

That will break compatibility as websites aren't design to change the colour scheme automatically. It still requires a lot of work.

Even more so considering iCloud Private Relay is going to remain in beta owing to compatibility issues on some websites.

If anyone doesn't want to pay monthly for YouTube Premium, you can always use an app I wrote called PiP-it:

‎PiP-it allows you to play videos picture-in-picture and ad-free from the YouTube app and other apps that block or don't offer this functionality. From the YouTube app, just press Share > More > Picture in Picture with PiP-it! and *boom* your video plays picture in picture while you can...
