YouTube Says iOS Picture-in-Picture Coming to All US Users

This thread is becoming confusing with contributions by those discussing YouTube PiP in a Browser or other workarounds. The original discussion is the official YouTube App with PiP, not the browser. So those who experience it working in YouTube App, please clarify.

Given that this YT PiP rollout has been a spotty and slow. Those who are discussing workarounds is only trying to give an alternative option while waiting on YT PiP.

I've been premium for a while and dark mode was exactly the same situation. Just slow and random google rollouts.

I have to disagree with you. Dark Mode was announced for iOS 13 and released in 2019. There was reports that YT was working on a Dark Theme before Dark Mode was announced (in 2018) and users were able to experience it.

But PiP was introduced back for iOS 9 (only on iPad) and this was back in 2015. This is not the exact same situation… but the problem is both PiP and YouTube Red was introduced around the same time. Dark Mode is a simple theme and doesn’t effect their revenue stream. But PiP is a different story… and it’s a combination of Ad people along with Music Industry that has a say in it.

I don’t see why ads should have anything to do with it. I’m assuming ads can be displayed in PiP just as easily as other videos can be. It might result in people actually watching them as it would be more of an effort to skip them while in PiP.

This is ridiculous, and as a member since 2004, before YouTube had anything to do with Google, I am still mad. And its not like I can just switch to another platform, as the creators I watch decided this was the platform of choice. I am also a premium member, that doesn't mean anything, still no PiP.

I have it on my iphone x! I just got a notification on my pc with experimental premium things. Only works with my iphone and not on my ipad.
I just reinstallled the app on the ipad and now it’s working!

Unfortunately it's still happening to me on IOS 15.1 XS max...luckily I have a shortcut to bypass this but still very annoying ?

It works for me, but I don’t use the app. I just run it on safari and it seems to be just fine with pip on both my iPhone and iPad.

The problem with Safari is that useless “auto” resolution that seems to always choose 480p by default.

Yeah, I don’t like using YT on Safari… for some reason YT app does better with playing 1080p+ videos.

I guess with PIP I’m less concerned whether or not it’s 1080p. I don't usually pay attention to that in PIP.

Not always am I watching in PiP though. Usually what will happen is I will watch something, and then my brain trails off and want to go do something else, so I will then activate PiP and continue watching. I did enable that experimental premium feature though, I just hope it sticks around. I don't understand why this is so hard to offer for YouTube.

Yes it’s still an experimental feature it looks like they extended it till the end of January.

They’re going to roll it out to everybody after they’re done experimenting
