Discovered something interesting, maybe it will help others. I'm a Premium US subscriber, been checking daily for the PIP option. Opened a support case and they said it should be there.

I'm logged into my Google account, but I have YouTube default to my sub-profile (different username, not email) that I created ages ago. If I switch to my main profile (my Gmail address), then I see the PIP option. If I change to my sub-profile username (non-Gmail address), the option is NOT there.

I emailed the support person to ask how to get this working for my sub-profile.

I hope I get it, I never have had a gmail account before, my Google account is just linked to my iCloud account. I’ve also been checking daily.

Just chatting with YouTube support in the iPhone app right now. They say that there has not been an “official announcement” and that‘s why I don’t have picture-in-picture yet.
Aka: they’re still going to play games and not allow it after all. Ugh. I wish the people I watch would use a better platform.

Nope, they let the cat out of the bag. Some users have reported it’s working… and they made a statement saying it’s being rolled out.

There’s no games being played, unfortunately… some users will have to wait longer than other. But the silver lining in all of this… YT for PiP is real.

To be fair, the support rep I chatted with was technically correct. They told Macrumors directly. All the other reporting on it was sourced to the Macrumors post. They haven't made an official announcement, and I'm sure they will post something on a YouTube blog or whatever when PiP is finally announced.

I have the exact same issue, did you find a resolution to it?

I've had some back and forth with Tier 1 support. They don't understand that my two accounts are linked, and they offered to transfer my Premium services to the other account. I had to explain that they're both under my same Premium account, I watch no commercials on both.

I just received an email this morning that they will escalate the ticket to system engineers. I submitted feedback from the app referencing my case number. Fingers crossed!

We really need a Youtube competitor or the government needs to split them up from Google for anti-trust (wishful thinking).

On iPadOS 15 beta 3… in Safari on YT, normally you have to put it into Full Screen in order to use PiP. But now I can go to home and it enters PiP. Regardless if it’s on Full Screen, I can use PiP… Safari on YT seems like the best way to watch it.

Still not working so I’ve paused my premium subscription until end of August to see if it is working then
Wish I could join you in the protest, but I'm on the grandfathered subscription...

And for some reason Google/Alphabet is making YT on Safari experience difficult for no reason at all. I do have PiP using Safari, but I used to be able to play a YT video on Safari and go to home then PiP opens up (without using icon/button).

Now, I don't have that option. Once I go home... the video is disrupted. And on top of that... YT PiP on Safari isn't the same anymore. Example... I'll play a video, go into PiP.. browse for another video. But as soon as I go back to browse for a video... PiP doesn't work.

The protest didn’t last long lol

The ads started to bother me lol

I wonder if this is tied to privacy settings. Withholding such a feature if you’re withholding more of your data sounds like a Google move. If they weren’t filtering it in some way then it wouldn’t be enabled server side, it’d just be inherent in the app.

I don't understand how privacy would be the reason. If I'm reading you correctly.. they are withholding PiP to keep your data within the app?

More or less as a reward for you giving them all of your data. Listen, I love a harmless conspiracy theory before I’ve had my coffee.
