YouTube Says iOS Picture-in-Picture Coming to All US Users

Ok it works on safari in both iPhone and iPad so guess will have to use the browser for now. Obviously without premium it doesn’t even work in safari

I’m not a Premium subscriber, but it works for me in Safari. There are occasional glitches, but even then it works after multiple tries. It never works when I tap
the Picture in Picture button
though.

If any of you folks got a android device, install Youtube Vanced and no ads.

And, I forgot to mention I’m not in the U.S.

I’m in Germany. It has worked for me since iOS 14.5. I now have the iOS 15 beta and it still works. If it fails the first time, try again. It sometimes takes a few attempts.

How do you get it to work in safari without touching that button?

Yeah, I saw the news regarding this. According to the articles regarding Picture in Picture, it was a YouTube spokesperson who said it’s coming, but at this point, I wouldn’t be shocked if it wasn’t a thing.
On the flip side, I could see this being a ‘normal premium’ feature to differentiate it from the lite version. I am completely speculating though & I don’t want to give anyone false hopes, so take it with a grain of salt :p

I have a feeling many of you weren't around for the Dark Mode rollout for the youtube app earlier. It's a Google rollout, so its gonna be slow and its gonna be random. Its on their end and it will happen for you whenever it does. I've been premium for a while and dark mode was exactly the same situation. Just slow and random google rollouts.

I had Premium until the beginning of August and never once saw PIP playback on either my iPad or iPhone. Background playback where the audio keeps playing (which is stupid for videos), yes, but no PIP playback.
