You're joking, right? You're delusional.

I don't see "Direct TV" as the broadcaster on any of those examples...

 That's simply not true. That's 1/3 of their entire yearly Apple TV+ budget. That means they'd either be increasing their budget substantially on a product that's far from profitable, or cutting the budget for other original content like Ted Lasso, which has more potential to attract viewers than the NFL which is only on a small part of the year.

Apple TV+ only has about 25 million subscribers (one report says an Apple employee told them less than 20 million). They're nowhere close to even breaking even on it.
Apple has close to 50 billion in cash. And their net worth is three trillion.

So? You don't get rich being stupid with your money and just throwing it away. Why is it so many with no business sense think that just because a company has money they can afford to throw it at stupid investments and still remain successful? That's certainly not how Apple got to where they are.

Who says it would be stupid to add potentially millions of new subscribers?

I don’t understand why anybody would pay for YouTube TV when it’s lower quality and more expensive than getting actual cable tv. Don’t forget there are free OTA broadcasts too. What is the incentive with YouTube?

If I can’t watch every NFL game with my one YouTube Premium subscription, then I don’t care. I was so down to actually start watching football for once since it was gonna be on Apple TV, but I’m not going through all these backend hoops just to watch a game.

YT TV is a great viewing experience for sports, so I support this.

The “Catch up to live via watching key plays” viewing feature, combined with unlimited DVR makes it THE TV service to beat for sports viewing.

I’m still miffed they dropped Tennis Channel a couple years ago, though. TC Plus is a garbage service and did not fill the gap well enough, so now we just watch grand slams, unfortunately.
I absolutely love the catch up via key plays. That's a superb feature.

Ouch! A bit embarrassing for Apple. Having said that, 2 billion for just one sport is a lot of money and I’m sure they’ll look into others.

Nope, not embarrassing for Apple. In fact, Apple is one that ended up walking away from the deal abruptly over the weekend, and Amazon declined to take on the Sunday ticket as well, leaving Google the third tier option (the one league really didn’t want to go to, but had no other option)

And according to industrial rumors (can’t say specific source, due to confidentiality) Apple and Amazon both wanted the package free to their existing streaming service (Apple wanted it free for Apple TV+ customers but willing to make it free to Apple One Premier customers only) (Amazon wanted it free to all Prime customers) and unfortunately looks like league still wanted:

$300-400 a season from customers

And if that’s what Google agreed to, it’ll make YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channel look really really bad. (Because it’s not affordable. Many expected around $80-90 a season)

In the end, Apple was fully correct on walking away abruptly from the deal, if they wanted to protect their image of providing affordable subscription service that’s affordable to everyone.

Watch on any device (including browsers) as well as use that same account at multiple households (vacation and/or vacation houses) -- just for starters

Also no equipment fees, easy to cancel, change, pause for a while, etc -- could go on and on here

Way more flexible than Cable/Sat subs

Hard to see how the NFL is good for Apple’s brand, to be honest. The NFL brand has gotten pretty toxic. Maybe in the end this is a net positive.

(note: the NFL is not alone in being a toxic sports league…hello FIFA)
Not the same, but they are getting MLS.

All the same applies to the cable companies - they have apps too, though I’m sure YouTube’s is a bit better if my old cable company’s app is anything to go by. Functional but definitely a bit clunky.

I switched cable/internet providers several months ago however I haven’t watched a second of TV yet… that service will probably be next to go.

There are equipment fees but it still comes out less than YouTube TV. I looked into it as a possible option. Unfortunately the relatively low bitrate of the streams was a dealbreaker.

They were gonna win. Problem was the NFL wanted them to charge an extra $9 premium for the Sunday Ticket, when Apple just wanted the Sunday Ticket as part of the regular Apple TV sub. This is all because Fox and CBS complained that they were gonna lose business to Apple so NFL wanted the premium so they could still pay Fox and CBS.

tl;dr NFL being greedy and dinosaur media being boomers is why you ain't getting NFL games on Apple TV now.
Also "the agreement didn't go through due to apparent concerns at Cupertino that it wouldn't be able to incorporate NFL Sunday Ticket into its future AR/VR platforms." Google's deal is multi-year, but I imagine Apple will go after it when they have tech that can showcase the sport in new ways.

Yessir, but even if you aren't a T-Mobile customer, it's still like $79 for the season or something ridiculously low for what you're getting. MLB has 162 games in a season!
Yeah if you‘re like me with no actual cable or Satellite service it’s 139 for every game or 80 bucks for the team of your choice. I used to pay for it but now get it for free as mentioned above. it is a nice affordable package for the amount of games you get.
