If 4K is $10 now then that's an even bigger increase at double since it's currently $5. And barely worth it for that.

It's only good for football and they have leaned into that, making it great for football. Was already going to cancel when the season was over anyway.

As for why not just use cable, the interface is way better than cable. And for as much as I dislike some things about Google, they are a lot easier to deal with than the cable company.

Spot on, YTTV is cable at this point, though probably still less money than a traditional cable service in an apples to apple comparison.

Cord cutters can still enjoy far lower bills with the following formula

10 Find content and subscribe to a service
20 Binge all content
30 Cancel subscription
40 Goto 10

If you limit yourself to 2-3 services at a time you win.

I considered NFL+ but I also want college football. There doesn't seem to be a better option right now.

Cable was already cheaper and better. So they made YouTube TV even more expensive, what did they do to improve it? Oh, nothing?

They keep thinking they can get away with it

Why not just go back to cable at this point?
Fair point. That said I think I'm stuck with it because it is still better than cable even though it's no longer cheaper.

I basically use it for Formula 1 and BBC news, but my wife watches quite a few shows that aren't easily accessible elsewhere which is why I can't get rid of it. I could easily just get F1TV and use other new sources, but she likes having her shows DVR'ed and available from any screen in the house or on her phone when she has to travel for work.

Apps have almost no set up. Cancel when you want. Use on multiple devices, including mobile. There is no comparison and no contest.

The better alternative to these prices is just stop watching what's on there and sign up for one or two cheaper services.
That’s a fair point I haven’t had cable in 20 years so I forgot about setup.

Looks at his 13 y.o. private...content distribution network account... does the math... LOLs in 4k or any other quality level within minutes after airing is done.

Wonders aloud at how the public tolerates these prices. Even cable, back in the 80's and 90's wasn't this much. I'd rather just read a book than pay for some BS programming I won't really be impacted by, anyway.

but, whatever.

I thought it was expensive before, never mind now. Most people I know share a family plan for around $40. Paying full pop for this is crazy imo.

I remember joining direct tv now for $35 a month and they threw in a free 4k Apple TV..

What has happened to this space?
I joined DirectTV Now at its inception back in 12/2016, and I still only pay $35 a month (plus $5 for a 3rd stream) for 105+ HD channels and 20 hours of free DVR. Every time they hike the price I have a huge smile on my face because it never effects me. This package would cost me roughly $130 at today's pricing. Best deal in the cable, satellite, streaming world right here! 😁

That's what I did. I miss sports but bought a package straight from my favorite team (see icon) for less than a month's worth of my savings from cutting cable altogether. Now I'm not paying for stuff I don't watch and I'm not subsidizing many media outlets I dislike.

Does anyone actually still subscribe to YouTube TV? I thought with the last two price hikes there was a slew of cancellations.

I did a free trial subscription to YouTube TV about 5-6 years ago. I didn't stay on after the trial period ended, but I was impressed with the service. It seemed to offer everything cable TV offered, but was cheaper--plus you didn't have to pay monthly to rent a cable box. I cut cable many years before, and having YouTube TV reminded me that I did kind of miss live TV.

At today's prices, I wouldn't consider subscribing to YouTube TV. I still consider it a good product, but I just can't afford $83/month in addition to all the streaming channels I subscribe to.

I'm not going to judge anyone for quitting YouTube TV or for staying with it. I feel for YouTube TV subscribers about the price increase.

Few networks are driving up the prices. Especially like ESPN. Signing ridiculous contracts and just expecting to pass cost down. They were asking almost $15 per subscriber initially with direct tv negotiations.

Crazy money for garbage. I haven’t watched commercial programming for probably close to 30 years. When you divorce yourself from that stuff you realize how fraudulent the programing is.

How did you manage the keep the $35 rate? I had the same promo and the gave me a BS story that the promo was a $15 discount from $50 to $35, and not a set $35 rate (which I know it was). Then when prices went up, so did my rate. But kept a measly discount of $15 for the run of it. Now my package is $109!!!!
